Why don't we win at Anfield anymore?

No chance of a win, Darwin Nunez causes too much chaos

One thing I'd like more than a comfortable win is for us to be in the backfoot for most of the game, only to do an O'Shea under dubious circumstances in the final minute of added time. Will serve them right based on their constant posts about referee favoritism.
I'd want to actually hammer them. Revenge for the 0-5 at Old Trafford last season!

That’s not how xG works. For example Team A xG of 1 versus Team B xG of 0.5:

Team A could have had lots and lots of long range efforts that add up to 1 versus Team B who had a single chance all game but it was a one on one. Most people would say Team A had no clear cut chances but Team B had 1 clear cut chance.
Wanted to ask you what counts as xg goals against but @tomaldinho1 answered my question.
And I believe my eyes too, even though we tend to start slowly clubs have about 2 to 3 clear cut chances at most and there are certainly no waves and waves of attacks of how you put it.

Right, regardless of how it counts. xG, we concede loads of chances then? If its not clear cut, then we are conceding loads of chances, because as Tom is saying, a long shot may be 0.1 and to get up to 1.5 we would need to concede 15 shots on goal? Either way, we are conceding the best chances in the top 6.

Yet we have fans as usual going over the top about having the best trio with Licha, Varane, Casemiro.

Considering we conceded 28 goals which means only City, Arsenal and Newcastle conceded less and we're on par with Liverpool I'd say they're pretty good, yeah.

As for 15 shots meaning 1.5 you should check that again.

Oh how convenient to leave Chelsea out? So we are on par with Liverpool and Chelsea who are having one of their worst campaigns in the last 5/6 years ? Yeah the clubs we are laughing at.

For the last few years we've had a squad that wilted in that pressure-cooker type of atmosphere that Anfield has. This team has a lot more character and composure, so hopefully we can bring our game on Sunday.

As you say, even under SAF it was a really tricky place for us to go. I think we were so dominant and Liverpool were struggling, so that game was probably bigger to them in the sense of pride or whatever.

Liverpool have always been a team that can turn it on for the big day and raise their game in fairness. This game always has a big cup-tie feel.

Oh you're one of those, we're not that good its just rivals are having a poor season - guys?
Chelsea and Liverpool having bad season dont have anything to do with the fact how many goals we conceded. It's just a number. We conceded just 5 more than Arsenal for example.

No.. never have I ever said that we are good cause rivals are having a good season, I am just saying, we concede chances. I dont get what is hard in understanding that without putting other words in my mouth.

Its not just a number though is it? Its like saying who cares if we lost 1-0 or 5-0 its just a number?

Its a number in the sense its a pretty solid if not very good number looking at standings.

I agree, we concede chances. Chances happen in football matches. You've gone from wave and wave of opposition attackes and clear cut chances to shot and chances. In any case this talk doesnt make any sense, I see what I see watching football matches, other see things while looking at charts.

No chance we'll get anything out of that game. Allison never makes a howler against us and Nunez is on fire.

You are the one who told me to prove it to you with numbers.. okay we want to see on the pitch? let me remind you.. Leeds home, away, Leicester, Barca home, Newcaslte, West Ham all had the better first half.. Unless you want to deny that?

I didnt deny that in my first post as a response to you. You're the one who went with - we concede a loads of clear cut chances and waves and waves of attacks.

How does team get so many chances without waves of attack?

One of the best smash and grabs ever

I'll never really understand this. Basically, you're saying you'd prefer your team to play poorly against their biggest rival. Why would any United fan want to see us on the back foot for most of the game? It's bizarre.

i think the main reason is that when it comes down to it, klopp is still tactically levels above ten hag.

Relax. That's not what I said. It's what you understood.

I can see a nice 3-0 win. Catching them on counter. This team is ready for the fight. First time for Case, Antony, Licha, Weg in this game. It will be a lot of fun!

You're not seeing it right! At least not for this thread.

You did literally say you'd like us being on the back foot for the entire game more than a comfortable win. It's right there, in the first sentence:

One thing I'd like more than a comfortable win is for us to be in the backfoot for most of the game

Like I said, I always found this attitude weird. Sure, the O'Shea goal was a great moment but the preceding 90 minutes were torture. There's no way I'd prefer to relive that over a comfortable win.

1. I'd love a comfortable win.
2. I'd love an O'Shea moment more than comfortable win. How many comfortable wins do you remember vs O'Shea type moments? It's what makes memories.

Trent is a generational talent so no chance Rashford scores in this one

Too many people getting the thread wrong.

It’s because they have Salah who ALWAYS scores against us and the amazing VVD who is a brick wall in defence. And Allison never makes mistakes. We have no chance.

I think there's a few things to consider with xG, first it's not an exact science is is still quite young as a data set. It's good an as overall guide but if you go analyse how it scores certain scenarios it's clear it still has a lot of evolving to do. Secondly, where are you getting your info that we concede the most chances (not the best) in the top 6?

Understat has the Top 6 as this.
xGActual GxGAActual GA
Arsenal50.985625.1723
City57.586423.5725
United42.684128.3628
Spurs37.974630.6135
Newcastle41.873525.5615
Pool49.564038.5628

So United are 4th offensively behind City, Arsenal, Pool and 4th best defensively behind City, Arsenal and Newcastle.

Re your bolded point, since Casemiro displaced McT we have the second best defence in the league behind ultra defensive Newcastle (xGA NEW 13.43, UTD 17.32, CITY 17.76, ARS 17.77, TOT 20.02, LIV 29.04) are 2nd in the league on xPTS (0.12 behind Arsenal) but still 4th for xG albeit very close to the rest (we're on 32.16 and Arsenal are best with 34.32).

It's a mentality issue, Anfield just intimidates us. Having strong characters like Casemiro and Martinez puts us in a better position than usual but I'm still not completely confident.

Yeah even in the prime Fergie days we struggled, one day that win by a couple of goals there is gonna come again. We still owe then for costing us in the league in 92

There is no way ETH is capable of dealing with Klopp's mind games. Him and the players going to buckle under pressure and Liverpool are going to totally out compete us. Stan Fabinho is going to look like the player Casemiro always hoped of being.

This is their cup final, we have no chance unfortunately.

This is where due diligence comes into play, our entire squad hopefully should’ve studied the way Real were able to tame them, after going 2-0 down.
