Why did you start to support Manchester United?

From the time Becks was selected in the first squad, 'n' especially after Beckham scored that shockin' goal fom the half way line

probably around 1973. I remember my big brother beating me around the ear 'cos I said I was thinking of supporting Leeds. TG for big brothers.

1977 on vacation in france - radio of MU vs St Eteinne - all my frechie relatives yellin' allez les vert - MU fan from that point on. 1-1 FT.

I remember my dad sitting me down on the stairs when I was about 4 and asking me who I supported. I said "err.... Manchester".
He said "Manchester who"? (in his serious voice)
I said "City"
He said "Guess again!"
I said "United", with a slight quiver in my voice.

One of my earliest memories, and something I'll always be thankful for!

:D

No such chances being taken with my boy. He knew the "on on on" part of Glory Glory when he was 2, and knows all the songs and players - he's now 4

:D

Ive got no stories to tell about how i got 'into' united, ive supported them for as long as i can remember. I started liking football when i lived in Manchester, and my whole dads side of the family supports United, and my mum supports City, and me Grandad supports Arsenal and Me Grandma supports west ham, so you can imagine what it must be like when football comes up a family get-togethers.

The reason i choose united out of all of them was because i went to see my first football game ever, and my dad took me to see United to play Everton at Old Trafford, back in 92 i think it was.

I was born in Salford so I can't remember ever having a choice to who I was going to support. Everyone where I was brought up supports United. I remember that at junior school everyone used to have to wear red and white on the Friday before the FA Cup Final if United were in it - which was most years back then. They used to take a photo of everyone in the colours standing in the playground - which that I still had one of those photos!

My dad was born in knutsford on the outskirts of Manchester and has been a life long Utd fan, so I've been raised to follow the tradition.

Became a true fan at the age of 10 when watching the '79 cup final against Arsenal (still feel the exhileration of us pulling back 2 in the last 5 minutes only to be undone with almost the last kick of the game).

Dad supports United from when he lived in Salford. I can't remember supporting anyone else. I dimly remember the league cup defeat and FA Cup win in 85... My first United match (on telly) was probably a lot earlier than that though.

Because I was born in Trafford and raised in Urmstom.

What does WUM mean?

I have been MU fan since I was 9 year old and that was 1994.I think they were playing against Ipswich when Andy Cole scored 5 goals. That was(not sure) season 94/95 and since then I enjoy looking best team on Earth playing theirs fantastic game.

started life as a naiive boy and tried to support city but my family ( god bless them ) , living as we did in higher broughton and just up the road from the cliff decided to give ne an ultimatum , United like the rest of the family or City and hit the road , I was only six ...... Thanks you lot , what a great decision and i have been shouting uniteds praises since moving to lincolnshire 26 ago on missionary work , COME ON YOU REDS !!!!

I have been a die hard fan since the age of 6. I had no previous knowledge of football before that, having lived in Belgium. But, going back to my motherland, Mauritius, something was to unfold. I had two cousin brothers. One a LIverpool fan and the other a Manchester United fan. I grew very close to the Manchester United guy for some reason and he brainwashed me completely early 1985 to love Manchester United and hate Liverpool. I have not looked back since. Never once.

1989 opening match of season,Michael Knighton juggling the ball and shooting it into the empty net and what more we won 4-1 against the arse

"I was a Newcastle supporter till they weren't going to win the league. Then I switched to Leeds. Then when Man United started winning in the early 90s,I figured I would be a glory hunter - till they are no good anymore" - What 99% of Man United supporters really should be typing. ;)

i think we have alot of glory support....

but so did liverpool in the 80's.. hence most of their fans come from london and other places.

whatever....

Everton fans come from liverpool.(they out number them 3-1)

Most of liverpool fans come from a 40miles radius outside of Merseyside.

in manchester we out number city fans 2-1.

so NJ, looks like liverpool have more than their fair share of outside....or glory support.

and where are you from?

You're obsessed aren't you? You're such a pure mancer than manc wank, I'm struggling to feel as though I belong in this forum and feel quite the imposter.

So Giggzy, get it off your ample chest: who other than me on this board do you think a gloryhunter? And what should be done with them?

You live in Manchester don't you giggzy? Tell me why you're always on here on match days? Shouldn't you be down at the ground?

Maybe he can't afford it, or maybe some other reason.

Nice to see his man standing up for him as I suspected you might.

He could get a paper round. That would cover the cost of a ticket every fortnight.

I disagree with that. Tickets can be found for the majority of games.
