Why did we buy Fred?

Another dud? Where is this guy? Why are we buying these players if we are not going to play them while we have glaring weaknesses in our team. The transfer dealings of this club are quite abysmal, and it really pisses me off.

The manager wanted him. Before joining United, even Pep/City were after him (or he was strongly linked to them). So it's not the transfer dealings but the manager who isn't playing him for some reason.

The manager does not play Andreas as well, so that's another case.

Because he is stepping up from such an inferiour league. There are so many players that are considered stars in the PL now that did not have the best of starts either: Otamendi, Firmino and even fecking de Bruyne (on his return to the PL) are just a few. He needs this season and one more until we can judge him.
I agree. Fred doesn't look like a particularly intelligent footballer. A more tactical astute player would be better for you but there was already Herrera and I see Fred more of a future buy that still needs a lot of tactical work to improve your midfield.

Yes, well I sort of had manager/club in mind. But he still plays the magnificent Matic. Who has been more or less bad since last christmas? Blergh. Not saying that these two would do any better necessarily but give them a change for Christs sake.

He needs to bed in still and obviously isn't quite ready for first team action. Lets not get too hasty on him. Until he has a proper run in the first team I wont judge him just yet.

But yes I agree it's frustrating having paid so much for him that we've seen so little. Hopefully when results start to improve he'll get introduced.

It makes me wonder if Woodward was actually right in denying Mourinho more transfers in the last window. If he can't even find a place for Fred on the squad then what does it say about his abilities to adress our current problems?
These players cost transfer money and wages you know? It's not funny that the manager has eff ideas on how to use them.

Mourinho's done one decent deal for the club. Zlatan. The rest are struggling and/or abysmal. He's lost it.

Baffling. Even when players are in poor form, we don't play a 50million addition.

This is how Miki/Lindelof started at utd - just being frozen out. Confidence is a big thing for players, and being isolated early on cannot be good for the player.

Really good player. Bets the press time after time. Ridiculous he's played so little.
Would be a decent modified if we could get someone with legs in place of Matic, alongside Pogba and Fred .

I agree. Would love to see Pogba, Fred and Pereira play together consecutively.

He's a good player but he clearly struggles with some of our less mobile players. Sometimes he holds on to the ball too long because nobody is giving him options. He'd be brilliant with a quick footed midfielder next to him.

Having a positive player in midfielder has taken the onus off Pogba to build the play and allowed him to express himself further forward. He should play every week.

With another manager we’d have played Pereira, Fred and Pog and dominated all teams except the other top teams, which is always dicey affairs. We wouldn’t play like underdogs vs every team. I think Fred will shown his true worth over the course of the season.

He’ll be dropped for the next game I bet.

Wow, a player takes a while to get used to a new league, system, and a team that was in disarray. Who would have thought?

Grew into the game, definitely worth a run in the side now. He’s a risky player, but we need that. Think he will come on from this.

He's good I think.

Clear he needs to adapt to the pace of the league a bit more but I think he has some really positive attributes.

Utterly embarrassing how quick people have been to write him off.

Typical football fans tbh

2 good games = awesome player, future GOAT
2 bad games = shit player, deadwood get rid

Better judgment would be made after seeing a player settle and have a good 100 games under their belt IMO

I have a better question, why did we drop Fred?
safety first Mourinho had a notion Fellaini was a better option after a couple of good games v Burnley and Watford

I like the look of Fred...great energy and a decent passer

Thought he was good today. Lively, energetic and wanted to win, plus he likes to shoot from outside the box, something the rest of the side rarely have the balls to try.

Didn’t realise players need to sit on the bench to get use to a new league. Did he need to adjust to the air?

Fred did pick up a knock in pre-season which probably impacted his integration to the team and although I cannot find details I am certain he came back with a problem from the first international window so his relatively slow intorduction to the first team makes some sense. Several comments up above about Dalot not playing, he is definitely injured and has been for a few weeks, try to keep up chaps.

Happens literally all the time. Managers say all the time that ”he needs time to adapt”. It’s about adapting to the training, his teammates etc etc.
For some it goes quicker than others.

Only with Mourinho. Adapting to Phyiscality I.e. get in the gym. Otherwise you play your way into a new league. Did Fernandinho need all these Dragon Ball Z training before he started playing games? If he needed time to adapt why did he start the season?

Yes. I've liked the look of Fred. No idea why he was banished from the team.

Probably to allow him to time to adjust and take some pressure off his shoulders. Look at the way Liverpool are bedding in their new midfielders. Its just that we, as fans, are... stupid.

Reminds me when I heard on one of Sky's programs someone wondering where Sanchez is.

I believe after Sanchez and to a lesser extent Magic, Woodward will no longer buy 28 year olds or older.

I believe this is big reason we are getting a director of football

Tevez, Masch at West Ham.
Evra for us.
Fabinho right now.

Sure I could give you literally hundreds if I could be arsed.

Evra and Vidic. Especially Evra was brought out of the firing line pretty sharpish after his debut.

Its horrible management to put a new signing into the shitshow that has been our season. We need to turn things around and expecting Fred to do that is asking far too much. Players that are established in the dressing room and know the league should do that.
