Who's responsible for our (lack of) fitness?

A manager shouldn't have to force players to want to be top athletes.

We need to sign players that want to be top players in every aspect.

Mata couldn't run, Matic couldn't run, Sanchos chubby, Shaw is overweight for a professional footballer and too high of a bodyfat composition, Maguire actually can't run, Bruno can't run or do an actual number 10s defensive duties like Rooney did.

Ronaldo and Cavani don't have the legs anymore.

Our keeper doesn't leave the 6 yard box. Then we wonder why we run 10k less per game?

Buy motivated footballers that are also talented footballing athletes. Do you look at Liverpool and think ANY of their players are out shape? Peak fitness and body composition is a pre requisite for most footballers or teams.

I've had concerns about our medical department as far back as the Fergie days. No other top club has to deal with the injuries that we do.

Fergie days? It was every bit as bad under Big Ron. Robson, Whiteside, McGrath, Moses. Completely destroyed any momentum we ever looked like building up.

And on top of all the injuries, look at the bad shape our players have been allowed to get in. Rooney, Anderson, Shaw, Lukaku. Even Schweinsteiger, whose arse was the size of a small planet after he had joined us.

It would be great if improving fitness solved everything

At a club like United there shouldn't even be a conversation about it. It should be a given. Also there is an issue with application, and Ralf basically said as much after the game. He was amazed at the lack of physicality considering the opposition and the rivalry. So I think it would definitely help with a solution.

But he's not even done anything to address the attitude problems in the squad, nothing at all.

What do people expect? We didn't have real coach/manager for over 3 years. We didn't (and still don't) have real football director. This club is in absolute cruise control (with no direction).

I've said our fitness levels haven't been right all season leading to the much evident lack of effort. We'll have as clear a pre-season as we'll ever have and the new regime needs to get these jokers properly conditioned and ready. Personally I wouldn't be against an SAS style bootcamp in the Brecon Beacons with the promise of shit form resulting in mid season repeats.
