Who will be United's big signing this summer?

I think we will go down the quantity but still decent players route than a big name player this time. We havent exactly profited from the big name players and a Fred might be better suited to us than a Pogba for example.

I don't think we will have one, the situation has changed and we need many players of around £40-50m to catch City and not one £100m player.

I don't want a big signing, I want the correct signings.

Martial - Lukaku - Sanchez
Pogba - Matic - New CM
New LB - New CB - Bailly - Valencia/TFM
De Gea

It doesn't have to be big name players it has to be the right players. Alderweireld from Spurs if his contract issues are true for CB. Not sure about LB or CM, from what I've seen I wouldn't mind Jorginho but I haven't seen too much of him.
Valencia needs dropping as well. Not good enough as a fb

I think we do need a 100m attacking player. I don't mind if we don't get new CB for that (and no need for new RB, if war-chest is so tight).

Everyone will be spitting feathers after we don't sign someone they all want but then like in the days of yor the supposed crap players we'll have signed will be incredible for us.

I don't think we'll see a big £100m plus signing this summer. I'd like to see us strengthen and tighten up our defense, we cant rely on De Gea all the time.

So I'm hoping for a new pair of full backs and an actual center back. Our "Marquee" signing should be a central midfielder.

Seen is linked in a couple of places with Douglas Costa for £70+ million so that would be a big buy but then Alderweireld, Alex Sandro and Fred all at £50 million each are big signings so I think it’ll end up as at least 4 £50+ million signings.

Hope it's Bale, was totally against the idea at first but after watching Utd this season and in particular how inconsistent/poor the likes of Martial, Rashford, Lingard & Mata can be i have decided we need a real game changer and someone who can make a difference and put fear into the opposition.

I hope there's no "big" signings and instead we just focus on improving the squad. I would be happy with a window of Alderweireld, Sandro and Perisic.

It looks like Fred's a done deal so thats our CM sorted. Now just improve on the defence and wing and we should be stronger for it.

We need more than Fred to fix out midfield.

Our tactics and attacking Dynamics have made them look so poor, and I'll have to include Sanchez too in that list who was tearing at Arsenal in a More advanced role in 343. When the team is so slow to get the ball forward in final third that the attackers find themselves against 9 men inside the box with no overlapping support from full backs either the attacking players are bound to look that way and its the midfield and tactics mourinho played were not good enough.

SMS I hope, along with Alderweireld and Alex Sandro would cap a very good summer. It still leaves questions over our RW and RB positions but it would be unrealistic to expect more.

If we sacrificed SMS (£85m+) perhaps we could address both RW and RB with two signings for a similar amount. Im torn on what would be better for the team.

There will be two big signings. One in attack and another one for midfield. My guesses are:

(1) Dybala or Griezmann for the attacking position
(2) Kroos or Jorginho for the midfield.

I doubt any of those 4 will be joining.
We shall check back in August, after the transfer window has shut, if you were right. ;)

Personally, I am not confident that Woody wil step up to the plate any time soon and add to the team. Would love to be proved wrong, and although he has signed a couple of big names, always seems reluctant to pay up for the final piece in the puzzle under Jose.

If there is no further improvement to the squad, finishing second may prove to be a struggle particularly if those still in contention follow through and sign some players. Let's hope Woody and the board understand the need to improve, and in the current climate it needs to be done adding good players and spending some good amounts.

Are you suggesting that we won't make any signings this Summer?

I agree with a few posters in this thread saying that there won't be a big "marquee" signing like Pogba/Lukaku - and we'll focus on improving the squad.

Our biggest problem last season was the attack looking disjointed/uncreative/clueless - perhaps all that's needed is:

a.) time for the attack to gel (especially Sanchez properly bedding in)
b.) reinforcing the defence/midfield behind them so that the attack has more confidence/risk going forward.

Like many have said - it's not going to be one 100m player - it's going to be 2 or 3 50m players.

Fred
Alderweireld
Sandro or Tierney
another midfielder to replace Fellaini (SMS or maybe an alternative like that Lorenzo Pellegrini if we're unwilling to pay top whack)

and then MAYBE a RW like Willian (if Martial insists on leaving)

Douglas Costa or Savic will be the costliest. But I expect that we will bring in 4/5 players.

Hopefully no one. We don't need another ''super star'' on high wages.

Fred, Sandro, Sidibe, Toby & Willian are all 40-50m players that will improve us massively in their respected positions.

Juve will trigger their option to buy him this summer, Costa is as good as off the market.

You could be right @izec ,but Juve will buy some big players this summer and maybe will not take up the option to buy Costa as he has been used from the bench a lot. It depends on their budget and who they want to bring in really.

Nope, Marotta confirmed they will buy him and trigger tje clause til June 30th, 46m Euros. He was their best player in the last few months, after having a bot of trouble at the beginning of the season. He was playing regularly recently

Bravado aside we play this season with 2.5 midfielder.

Matic pogba and sometimes herrera. I dont consider lingard as a midfielder, fellaini is too niche to play a balanced midfielder, carrick has practically retired this season.

I do believe a functioning midfield is the key and will make a lot of differences next season

We need more than Fred to sort our midfield.

Herrera isn't good enough, we either need another signing or integrate Periera in the team. We rely to heavily on Matic and Pogba, I think we need another addition at CM

Seriously? Herrera isn't good enough but a guy who isn't even the best at Valencia is?

Is Kante available?

It's about being logical and practical.

Currently with all available midfielders we have - I would class only Pogba and Matic as good enough. If we want to play a 3 man midfield - we need more quality

Herrera/Fellaini are experienced players who have been here for a while, neither are good enough long term in my opinion.

So based on this, we need to look at using our own young players to give them a chance (like we have with McTominey) or look to sign players. The signing of Fred (if it goes ahead) is a massive plus. I still think we need another player, now all the talk is of us signing Fred + a young emerging talent, for me we don't need to sign a young emerging talent because we have Periera and McTom. We sometimes have the answer to our own problems.

If there was another quality signing to be made in CM, I wouldn't object of course. We need quality around the squad.

Willan, SMS or Bale.

We need to get the ball forward quicker in build up if we want to play attacking football. Any of these would help with that.

Hopefully no one. Or if you count Alderweireld as a big signing then him. We do not need any big names.

Yeah we need some under the radar signings which doesn't hype the media much because every season we make a big signing and the media fawns over it and starts over hyping our team a lot . So when we crash and fall at some point in the season they write all those obituaries about our style of play and team chemistry . For once I want us to go to the season as under dogs with less pressure on us .

But on the other hand we have Woodward as our chief who loves a grand signing . He is a muppet and sometimes I feel he waits for the transfer window to start just so that he can start trying out for the big names . I wouldn't be surprised if he starts checking out Neymar or wants to bring back CR7 . Their agents must love him . If all the publicity events surrounding Sanchez arrival was anything to go by then I am pretty sure he must be making his own list . I do feel that in the end he might sign up Gareth Bale in this transfer window . According to reports with Martial interested in leaving I wouldn't be surprised if this season we do end up getting him since Mourinho likes Bale a lot too as I dont think Roman will allow Willian to move to United after Matic turned out to be a small success .

We dont need big names. Just players in the right position.

Half of our squad is makeshift and not at their natural position, or their strenght.

Valencia
Young
Mata
Sanchez martial rashford but none of them are potent on the right
Fellaini
Pogba playing in 2 man midfield
Winger as striker backup
Lingard i dont even know his natural position

I wish we can just buy a few good players and play them in their natural position. Something we havent been doing for a long time. Di maria, memphis, schneiderlin, bfs, rojo, blind are all bought with no clear idea on where to play them
