Who replaces Ten Hag?

Not really. This year's results aren't even the same as last year's, so there goes that theory.
Do you really think we're using the same players as last year?
Casameiro
De Gea
Martinez
Varane

That was our spine last year.

What i'm saying is that replacing ETH will not convert many of the players we have into high quality players. Some of that is on ETH granted.

When Moyes went, I could see Van Gaal a mile away. Dito Mourinho. Solksjaer was a surprise, due to his results, but there was options on the table. And Ten Hag following Ragnick was on the cards for ages, too.

Now, I havent a fecking clue who'd be the next manager. Ancelotti at the end of the season, maybe, if the takeover goes through and Real dont offer him what he wants. Now I cant see past a caretaker in January, whoever that is.

Meh sign a caretaker. There's always a merry-go-round of managers across the top leagues, there'll be a few on the market even by March when a few clubs get knocked out unexpectedly early in the CL.

If we get bummed at Anfield then that might be it in terms of making Sir Jim’s mind up. However I can see us getting to the end of the season with Ten Hag, and sounding out Emery in the meantime.

Yeh and no. We've won more in the league and lost more but basically got the same outcome as last season.

Honestly if we sack ETH, we need a sticky "WHO REPLACES [INSERT MANAGER HERE]"

I struggle to understand this notion. Just because we have had a bunch of failures, doesn't mean we should just stick to this current failure, just because previous changes have not work.

Yes, the structure above manager needs to change, and it will soon, but if it is believed that he is not the right man, we need to let him go.

Chelsea did this many times under Abramovic and with every 2 or 3 failures, there was a manager who came in and brought huge success.

I agree with your concept, but not timing.
Erik did really well last year despite needing a lot more quality players.
This year has gone to shit in large part due to injuries to our spine or them falling off. Some of his signings were bad though.
Give him the year to see if he can turn things around as injured players return.
That's all i'm saying.

The results were unacceptable back then. They were unacceptable with that Austrian bimbo, OGS, Mourinho, LVG, and Moyes. The rot has gotten worse the longer things have gone on. None of the holdovers manager to manager is a winner, they don't know how to win. It's funny its like all these players watch United in the 2000s and saw how easy it was for us to dominate teams and that it would be easy for them. The players are the biggest problem, in addition to lacking top level skill (or more than players on other sides) the players on are team are almost always 2nd best on the pitch when it comes to effort. Other than Chelsea, who have we outplayed this year? No one. Not a relegation side at home? A small European team at home? Nope.

The players are slightly above average overall here, they think they can just put the shirt on and go out there and be stars; and shit maybe they could if they actually had the audacity to fight for it on the field.

I woulddn't fancy any of Potter,, Lopetegui, or De Zerbi, to do much better than Ten Hag has been doing.

Zidane could I suppose, but who knows what he'll be like away from Madrid, and he won't want it so it's irrelevant anyway.

All would struggle with the clowns running the club. De Zerbi and Lopetegui best of the four. Potter absolutely no way

I'm not having YET ANOTHER rebuild. Sets the club back even further, give the man more time. He's had a season and several months.

Give him at least 3 seasons. Fed up of chopping and changing it's getting tedious and the fact that there's a section of the forum that want to change after 1 season is astounding. Yes we're shite but we've been shite for a decade +.
Rebuild is another phrase/myth invented among our fans. You don't need some major rebuilding. You give the job to manager who is happy to work with this squad. And that is it.
But before that, we need new DoF of course.

1. ETH decided to replace De Gea with one of the most expensive goalkeepers ever. So, for ETH, we have upgraded. ETH believes he is the second best keeper in the league. And anyway, it was his decision, that cost us 50 million or so, money that could have been used to strengthen other positions.

2. ETH had a quarrel with Varane. This kept him out of the first team for a while. And may have contributed to his poor showings. -Varane is a model professional, this was poor man management from ETH.

3. We are not sure what happened with Casemiro. Some say that again there was a fight with ETH. And anyway, ETH got Amrabat as a replacement, a player he requested because he knew him from Ajax.

So, these three were basically the manager's doing. Only Martinez was not his decision.

Does anyone know anything about Michel?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Míchel_(footballer,_born_1975)

I don't know anything about him, but I know that Girona beat Barca 2-4 in Camp Nou, and it's currently first in the Spanish La Liga. I don't really follow La Liga very closely, but we all know that either Barca or Real will win La Liga, so it is impressive that an unknown team like Girona is doing so well.

Knows Spanish minnows football well. United is different beast, especially in its current shape.

Lopetegui..

This is surely nonsense. He was interviewed for the job the last time around with the other candidates like Pochettino, Enrique and then Ten Hag got the position.

If he was not good enough the first time around, what makes him better this time?

Secondly, he does not align with the candidates INEOS would look at, if we are to belive they going to eventually invest.

They would however,( I do not want him) look at Potter. As they would McKenna. That is the age profile they would focus on.

Assuming Ineos come and 200mil is given again in the summer window. Let's assume that a DoF comes in and buys 3 or 4 new players. Would you trust them with Ten Hag.

You also got to think, who wants to come into United with Ten Hag as manager? He has damaged his reputation so badly with all the fallouts.
A player would think, if he can fall out with Sancho, Ronaldo, Varane etc, then he could fall out with me.

Isn’t Girona owned by City?

Potter is an artisan who did a good job with Brighton working patiently without the pressure, exposure and egos of a giant club. As soon as he joined Chelsea the short term demands and the general mess quickly ate the guy alive. Saving the differences it reminds me a bit of Maurizio Sarri, with exciting displays at Napoli but Chelsea and Juve are different animals. Someone doing well somewhere doesn't mean he can export those performances everywhere.

In the end it depends on the new guys taking over and what they're capable of building. If they can provide the personnel and structures to have proper control on the market, finding the right profiles at the right cost, nurturing a plan step by step, fixing the "behind the scenes" stuff (whatever is going on there) I wouldn't mind going for someone who can develop something special and giving it some time even with some risks involved. But it's a big "if".

If these new guys are similar to the current ones in the sense of "let's give the manager some players he wants" then it could be better to resort to a more industrial model, sign result merchants like Chelsea used to do under Abramovich and build a side with strong defensive organization, discipline and physicality, so we have at least some consistency and stop being a circus. Simeone, Inzaghi, Allegri, etc could be options and some more could appear in that mould.

This is not the model I'd want for United and for some reason I can't see Ratcliffe taking this way, but after a decade of failures we can't expect to be competitive while playing a beautiful brand of football when we can't even do one of these things isolatedly, let alone both at the same time. It's like aiming to fly when we can't even run. This is why I'd avoid a Potter, de Zerbi type of manager doing well at a humble club, unless the new board have it extremely clear that they can provide the right conditions around the manager for it to work.

In my case I'm curious about Nagelsmann and also Hansi Flick. I like the germans' approach and if the club was already defined like let's say Liverpool with Klopp's print I'd give it a try, but it can backfire at United I fear. It could be interesting anyway but in the case of Flick he fell out with the board as they didn't allow him to decide on transfers, if I'm not wrong. If our model is the right one from now onwards (the power remains at the club and the manager is one piece of the system) then it could be problematic as some managers probably wouldn't accept it, but I don't really know.

Once these guys take over and we see what they think and plan to do it will get easier for us to know what we can expect next. I can accept any manager/style being brought if the work is done at every level in a serious, professional manner. Considering how low the bar is at the moment it shouldn't be difficult for them to improve things whether they take one path or another.

I would trust him yes.
Also i don't think there's any real fallout. I mean Ronaldo acted like a petulant twat. If i was a professional i'd want a manager who keeps the other players in line if i was of a mind to work hard and try to win things. If they are not of that mind, then why do we want them at all. If this filters out the weak minded players, all the better.

Not sure about all that frosty, but maybe you're an ITK.
1. agree. fecked that up
2. not sure what happened but he played Varane against BM. I am not sure why he has not been playing him and i don't think anyone knows. Don't agree with it though.
3. Casa is injured from my understanding. Before that he was well off form.

Why did he fall out with Ronaldo? Should he have just let him throw a tantrum and then go on some utter bellends show?

He didn't simply fall out with Ronaldo, he held him to account for his actions.

And Sancho. In his time here has ETH shown that he is willing to take players out of contention but that there is always a way back, if the player shows they deserve it. A chance will always come, an injury, suspension or even a loss of form. Has Sancho shown he deserves to be back involved?

Did he fall out with Varane? Seriously, what is this claim based on?

Do we really want players who look at the Ronaldo and Sancho situations and think it's not for them?

Your manager is always a priority over sporting director.

Not always, and if you keep changing managers while not bringing in a DOF it might be wise to make it the priority.

City went the DOF as a priority route. Liverpool got the manager first, didn't do great in all honesty but once they got the DOF in they were set.

Enough with the no names from smaller leagues. De Zerbi, get it done. He looks like a guy who doesn't take shit as well.

Sounds like it would go well for him here….. :nervous:
As long as he brings Mitoma with him. Players that make sense. Something to build around. He isn't afraid of making changes. Pascal Gros is the most unfashionable high performer in European football.
