Who replaces Ten Hag?

I don't think I'd want any manager who is currently managing a European national team. If they go deep into the Euros, it will affect our pre-season plans.

Euros is scheduled to run June 14th to July 14th. Our pre-season tour begins on 15th July as it stands. We'd obviously want to be back in training a week before that for as much of the squad as possible.

There really isn't a stand out choice as far as I can tell, so we'll just see how it goes :wenger:

I'm not disagreeing with you. I think many managers would struggle to perform worse than what we've gotten with Ten Hag.

Eh, I don't think it's a huge deal with someone like Nagelsmann as he can still be consulted on signings/targets but by and large our structure will be dictating the targets more so this summer than in past years. As far as preseason goes, could be a bit annoying but honestly if he's the best option I don't think we should give a feck either way if a couple of weeks of training in preseason are missed, especially considering how much of a project we are at the moment.

I think the perfect is the enemy of the good in this situation. We aren't winning the title next season. I'll take a slower start if the manager is the right one to get us playing good football over the course of the year. I doubt we get Nagelsmann anyway, but still.
 
At this point, even I could manage Manchester United and do a better job than ETH.

I know poster wasn't serious , but we as United's fans should know better atleast now at various points under different managers after Sir Alex's retirement we thought it can't get any worse can it but then it does under next manager .

We keep finding new rock bottoms .
 
Until and unless we have guarantees from talks with Nagelsmann, I'd keep the door open in hiring an interim manager in order to increase the odds of finishing the season on a high.

Can we get Ruud in for now and then promote him to the position of head of player development or something similar in the offseason?
 
I think Ten Hag had the right idea when he said he wants to play quick transition football because the type of players we have are suited for it. I also think the this style is what INEOS would be looking for, and if that’s the case then we might as well secure Nagelsmann before other teams come lurking. Easily the best option available we can get for that type of football
 
Let's do nothing and not try to find a solution to a problem and muddle on.

Success is relative. I think all we can ask of a new manager is improvement, something I've entirely lost faith in from the current manager.

Next season should be about setting the right principles in terms of how we play and getting Champions League football. Neither will happen under Ten Hag.

If any of: Rashford, Bruno, Maguire, McT, Casemiro are still here at the club, it doesn't matter who the manager is. And there's almost no chance that Rashford or Bruno will get sold, so manager is completely irrelevant for our current problems.

Rangnick is a much better manager than ETH. He proved it before and after his unfortunate stint at United.
He never had a real chance. Only 6 months contract, zero backing with transfers. Every manager is a lame duck in such setup.

If you are worried about playing credentials, Nagelsmann is the wrong type anyway. He never played professional football as he had to retire due to injury at very young age.
 
ETH should be gone before the weekend. The fact that we have a negative goal difference at this time of the season is unforgiveable. At this point I'd take Mr Tumble over ETH (But not Southgate!).
 
Defending a lead by EtH

1. Remove all attacking threat and out-ball options
2. Bring on as many defenders as you have available
3. Retreat to the penalty spot
4. Allow the opposition to camp on the edge of the penalty area and play the ball around at will under minimal pressure
5. When you do get the ball, play three or four aimless sideways and backwards passes to invite pressure
6. Stick Rashford at CF, to ensure we have absolutely no chance of ever holding the ball up, ever.
7. Have every player stand statue-like waiting for the next wave of attack, bar Bruno who runs around aimlessly

While I'd prefer for those players to be sold, or at least phased out, it's disingenuous to claim that we can't function as a football team with any of them playing. The absence of structure is at fault there and the manager should be held accountable for that.

Likewise, there's no disincentive not to play well because all of the players have carte blanche to perform as they like under this manager without any repercussions. A proper manager instills standards which means players don't do that, and if they do, they're out of the team.

Then, look at all these names being banded around. Amorim has a £15m release clause - we defo won’t be paying that until end of season. Only those available would come without big payment….not good choices.
I want ETH gone but I’ve got my head around him staying. Hopefully today he’s hauled in front of someone and told to change his setup and approach to games. His contract runs out Summer 2025 so tell him he’s not going to get another unless x, y and z happens next season.
Ideal world he walks because he knows he can’t do anything here - but that wouldn’t happen.
Did Darren Fletcher do his badges?
 
If we lose with a big difference against Liverpool, I think it will seal his future.

We don't deserve to in CL, and with this setup and players, we have nothing to do in CL next year, so EL is the best we can imagine.

If ETH is sacked, it will be an interim manager, with a new one coming in the summer with De Zerbi, Amorim and Potter (buhhh) being the favorites.

As for the interim, I think we will go for one free, past players such as Ole, Ruud, Bruce or Giggs.

I think the cost of sacking him and his staff is a big reason he is still here. Maybe there is a clause that makes it cheaper when we don’t qualify for the Champions League.

When you factor in compensation for Ashworth, Wilcox and maybe 1 or 2 others and the cost of compensation for a new manager it’s a big financial sit without even buying a player.

There’s no way he can be here next season it’s completely untenable and he’d be gone in couple of months anyway as this isn’t going to get any better. I can easily see next manager being Potter or McKenna I’m sure partly due to the fact it would be affordable.
 
At this point I'd take Fat Sam as caretaker. Not joking.

We need a good defensive coach to instil the very core basics of defending as a team. And then we restart from there.

Our players have simply forgotten all the basics.
 
Is there any chance of tempting Enrique in the summer?

Nagelsmann is not an option. He'll join United in July, he is a system manager, he lost the support of Bayern's players and he's got no experience in the EPL. We need someone who

a- accept the role of head coach
b- he knows the EPL well
c- he understands what's going wrong inside the United ranks.
d- has solid tactics that are compatible to our squad

In my opinion McKenna is a no brainer. He did fabulously with Ipswich with two back to back promotions, he plays amazing football, he knows how to switch things around (plan A, plan B, plan C etc), he doesn't have favorite players (I doubt he'll fill us with Ipswich/Championship players like Eredivisie does) and he'll accept the role of HC. On top of that he knows our squad, the youth academy (which will play a central role in INEOS plans), who are the hard workers and who are the back stabbers. There aren't many players at United that Mckenna haven't worked with.
 
I find it baffling Nagelsmann is not heavily linked. Did amazing things at RB and Hoffenheim, and his Bayern results look better and better when looking at how it's gone there after he left. And that's with a manager like Tuchel who is considered top class and their biggest transfer in years with Kane.

Top 4 or 5 no chance .. I'd rather finish 8th no European football at all... Brighton manager for me 1st choice because he's a pain in the Ass and maybe that's what players need..

Yes, yes, no he didn't lose the players, lack of PL experience is pretty irrelevant. Look at the title winning PL managers. (Almost?) all if them did win it with their first PL club.

Ole actually has one of the best records around against Pep. In fact for a while he was the only manager in any of the leagues who actually had a positive record against him (not counting managers who had only played him a couple of times).

Looking into current records, from managers who have faced Pep at least five times Conte and Klopp are the only managers with better records against him.

He got the Bayern job at what, 33? He's still a young coach, still plenty of time for him to grow and I'm sure he's learned a lot from his time at Bayern and is better off from that experience. And from what I've read the changes he wanted to make at Bayern were the right changes for the club moving forward but the board didn't back him on them which caused friction.

The list of available candidates looks a bit average.
 
Nagelsmann is hot favorite. I don't think it will be Southgate the majority of fans don't want Southgate and the atmosphere will be toxic if he is appointed.

I imagine he'll cost quite a bit.
But United fans in general don't seem to be in favour of bringing him in.

And those who opposed him up top are now gone apparently and there are rumours going around here that he'll be back.
