Who I would like us to go for when we offload Pogba?

We have to buy someone who first off wants to join us plus who's a team player, someone who doesn't mind sitting on the bench for a game, i would go for ward prowse, we suck at free kicks, corners, he would be happy to come, I think, for what pogba has Brought in the last 18 months it would be a step up, imo

Don't see anyone paying 70,80 million for Pogba. Doubt anyone will have that much money lying around in these times to buy a player who has been average or below average for a long time, plus all the attitude issues. if we are looking for cash, I think our best bet would be PSG but with any other club, I think we will be looking at a player exchange, be it Juve or Real. Don't think there is a Juve player I would want in exchange, except for maybe Ronaldo, but I don't think that's the direction we are looking to go in. With Real Madrid, I would love for us to get Ødegaard in exchange for Pogba and pair him up with Haaland, but I don't see it happening, sadly. Personally I would love to see spend the money on a pure DM like Dennis Zakaria plus a backup CAM like Szoboszlai. I feel we will have a much more balanced side without spending much.

Efficient, he can hit a long pass though. Check the obligatory YouTube video out

I've started the video at the point of the pass. He can tackle, he's pacy, has a trick or 2, and looks like he can carry the ball.

He's like Pogba but able to tackle and with less passing ability

Juve will try to palm Aaron Ramsey off on us

an ideal swap deal would be if we managed to convince Barca to part with Frenkie De Jong

I think a technical midfield playmaker like him would be top of my list

alternatively Camavinga seems to be the next bright sparkly thing in midfield.

like Grealish but not with Donny/Bruno. Balance just isn't right

We could really do with Pogba/Matic out and 2 in. A DM and a playmaker

Ruben Neves is one of the biggest false images in the PL. Outside his worldies he`s a very overhyped and slightly above average CM genuinely no better than Dendoncker or Moutinho watch him and you`ll see or better yet ask Wolves fans who also dont rate him as highly as many people on the CAF do
pretty sure i read the exact same crap about jota, ill stick to having watched him myself

has anyone mentioned Bissouma yet? he looks tidy, and he's young. Bet he could have a cracking haircut too

I follow Brighton as they are my local team. I love Bissouma for them, but he has barely any creativity to his game and never scores or assists so might be a bit too similar to Fred or Mct?

Not a single mention? For me he's the best we could get, attainable in January too. I doubt he would prefer Arsenal.

I'll take a couple of contrarian opinions:

- We won't go for an out and out DM. Ole plays with two #8s and hasn't given any indications that he'd switch to a 4-3-3 with a pure DM and Bruno + another AM ahead of the DM. Even when Matic plays, he's asked to play as an #8 as an example.

- We won't go for / need a direct replacement to Pogba in Jan. Fred, VdB, Matic, McTominay are enough cover for two positions. Especially now that we know VdB isn't great at #10.

- A shrewd backup for Bruno (Cavani-like signing) would be my highest priority followed by RW. I think these have potential to change our entire season - I don't even want to think about what would happen to our season if Bruno is out for a couple of months.

Question: How much do you guys think we would realistically get for Pogba is we sold him in January?

My guess is considering his age and marketability..... around £50m. Interested to know other people's opinions.

Is it though? Maybe quantity wise but quality wise but not quality wise only VDB is starter material. Matic is getting old, McTominay lacks natural technique to build up play from a deep position(he doesnt start in CM for Scotland as a result) and Fred isn`t disciplined enough to play in a pivot without a defensive minded CM next to him. I`d be gobsmacked if a DM isn`t signed between January and the summer when Pogba goes

I can see Bruno Fred and VdB being the midfield trio going forward. We've also been linked with Calhanoglu on a free transfer so maybe he'd be a good Bruno back up

A like-for-like is not required. Pogba's role has anyway been quite undefined in this team. We have often wondered what he does except for the flashes of brilliance. He can't control a game, doesn't consistently make key passes, doesn't score a lot, doesn't assist a lot, is often a liability defensively trying to hold onto the ball in his own third etc etc.

What does the team need? A younger Cavani and a younger Matic. Possibly a world class center-back. That's where the funds should go.

Forget the big names. Fill in the holes with shrewd signings.

Yeah money definitely needs to go on a proper DM & CB leader too over next two windows. If Cavani can give us another season would look at that for summer 2022.

These are all valid opinions but I'd have to disagree.

I think McTominay + VdB / Fred is a good enough balance of energy, defensive ability, press resistance etc. McT lacks a bit of technical ability but makes up for it with his strength / shielding when he has the ball in deeper areas. I don't think opposition teams specifically target him for their press for instance. When he's paired with someone who can break lines with forward passing (like Fred), they complement each other pretty well.

We might get an upgrade on Fred / McT in the summer, but not right after Pogba leaves in Jan. We can probably even go another season without any direct upgrades and instead take some punts on promising CMs to see if one of them develops in the way we want.

James Ward Prowse?! :nervous:

Good post though

JWP has 25 assists under his belt as opposed to the likes of McT (1) and Fred (1). At 64% he's got a higher tackling success rate then McT (58%) and Fred (51%). In 2019-2020 season JWP has covered a league-topping 334.6km in 1 season which suggest that he's quite hardworking. He had 60 interceptions as opposed to McT (31) and Fred (38) and had more recoveries as well (249 as opposed to McT's 147 and Fred's 234). These are the sort of players we should be looking at, people who can fend for themselves both defensively and offensively.

Manuel Locatalli seems to be a good shout

#1 in the world in progressive passes(Bruno right behind him)
#5 in tackles won and #8 in interception for Seria A
#1 in Seria A in touches

From what I've read is that he is a deep lying playmaker and this clip of him against Juve confirms it.

Only thing I'd be concerned about is speed

I cannot wait to offload the toxicity that is Pogba and his Agent who United should ban from ever gaining access to our grounds again. These are some of the players that I would like United to target in January:

James Ward Prowse -Southampton - Very Good Player who has some great potential in a better team could grow and become a great player. Has determination, skill and a great free kick I have admired James Ward-Prowse for many years. And he could do nice alongside Van De Beek and Bruno.

Jack Grealish - Aston Villa - Great Player in a very average Villa Side would be a great addition however, I doubt Villa will allow him to leave in January unless for a stupid amount of money.

Declan Rice - West Ham - Very Good Player who again has great potential at his age and could be do able in January .

Ruben Neves - Wolves - Great Player who can not only dominate games but score worldies that we haven't seen since Nani was playing for us, could do well alongside his Portugal team-mate Bruno.

James Maddison - Leicester - Great Player who can go on and do so much better if Leicester allow him to leave. But would require a massive bid and unlikely to let go in January.

Marco Verrati - PSG - Possible Swap if PSG interested in Pogba and would be a fantastic acquisition to replace Pogba, someone I have admired for years.

These are some of the players I would like us to possibly go for when we offload Pogba, who are your selections?
Ward-Prowse is an interesting one. There are obviously more gifted players around but he's very much the kind of player who'd fit in with what we're obviously trying to achieve. He's very industrious, always puts in a shift and can play a bit too. With Bruno and Fred that would be a terrific pressing unit.

We need more than one-in-one out in midfield. We need to buy a top, top holding midfielder (with Scotty or Fred as his back up but not playing alongside him) and that would free up a midfield space for, I guess, Grealish. I'd like a winger too, or instead if things are tight. At the moment the shape and tempo are all wrong

As others have said, Grealish is a fantastic player but he either plays left wing or cam, two positions we clearly don't need a player for. As a number 8 he'd be terrible defensively and I really don't think we should move Fernandes from cam to accommodate a new signing.

I’d only seriously consider one of those.
