Who could be the new first goalkeeper if de Gea leaves (hopefully he stays)?

I would want the club to go for Donnarumma, he's already a star.

Why not Romero, Johnstone or Pereira as the second choice. Johnstone is 24 now so he might want a full time gig, and I wouldn't blame him.

Probably a very silly question, but Johnstone as no.1, viable?

Johnstone is nowhere near good enough in my opinion and isn't doing that will at villa.

Perriera does look promising I have to say .. If we don't blood him in he will leave and do very well for someone else.

I quite like the idea of Schmeichel mind.. Premiership proven at his prime he ticks a lot of boxes

Kasper or Oblak for me, one would be significantly easier to get than the other so Kasper if I had to pick one

Gianluigi Donnarumma. Throw everything at Milan. This kid is going to be the next Buffon.

He already is the next Buffon. This guy has charisma and authority enough to match guys like Zlatan without even blinking an eye. All that at an age that is ridiculous. I'm absolutely stunned. He's not as agile as DDG but he's still amazing at pretty much everything he do.

Give it Giggsy till the end of the season.

I must admit, I laughed - it fits into pretty much any thread!

Not Romero, for me. Nothing against him but he just isn't top level - if DDG goes we need a top class replacement.

Replacing De Gea with Romero is the kind of step down similar with Schmeichel to Bosnich.

Bosnich was okay, but not cut out for the top level. Same as Romero (yes, yes, I know he's played in a World Cup final).

He's not that good with his feet tbh. Just came across this from the Sun (I know),

SPECIAL GIAN
Gianluigi Donnarumma: Manchester City prepared to pay £130m for AC Milan goalkeeper in world-record transfer

Bullsh*t as always but do you think this is roughly what it takes to lure him from Milan?

The Fact is anyone will be a downgrade on De gea, we need to clear that up.

Jordan Pickford is quality keeper from what I've seen. Plus he can distribute the ball as good as De gea.

Pog will put a good word in with Dummy Runner.

I'd say go with Romero.
Whenever he has played for us, he has been great, with one or two exceptions.
His record is good. That statistics are good.

I would also buy Donna Summer, though this will be a long project, with a view to him taking over Romero, over the course of 2-3 years - or if Romero screws up, before then.
For the record, I don't expect Donnarama to be at Romero's level, for quite some time, yet.

A lot of people in here, just want to buy BUY BUY BUY, even when we have a player already on our current roster who may actually be better.

Wouldn't we get a repeat of the De Gea saga with Donnarumma when he wants to replace Buffon at Juve?

Jordan Pickford is special, and would be easily attainable, so he'd be my choice. I can't see us getting Donnarumma or Oblak, otherwise they would come into it too. A few years ago, I'd have said Handanovič too.

But yea, Pickford for me. If it was De Gea of the last few seasons himself putting in some of the performances he has been, nobody would say anything.

Not Schmeichel for me. Good, but not good enough.

Oblak
Butland
Romero

in that order :)

Romero is too good for second choice, let alone third.

Donnarumma wants to stay at milan. Failing that, i don't think he sees juventus as the best next thing. Far more likely that united could sign him away from juve than the other way around. Unless he's incapable of living outside Italy

Oblak would be my choice but he's probably not attainable this summer.

According to FIFA Career Mode, Alban Lafont.
:smirk:My GK in FIFA Manager mode. He's that good.

Lol, seriously, losing De Gea will be huge. Romero can do the job but we need to aim higher, a more higher calibre keeper, Donnarumma fits that criteria theoretically, and it's possible he would like to leave AC Milan since they're not doing well nor progressing promisingly atm.
