Who’s the best Brazilian player since Pelé?

The 4 R's Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Romario and Rivaldo are all ahead of him.

Romario was the one that surprised me the most,a big influence to learn to play football.

Didi or Garrincha
Neither was post-Pele.

Surprised at the voting result in the OP. Are brazilians very fickle and romanticize the past or do they sort of dislike Neymar? He has done plenty for the NT yet ends up below Kaka?

T1 Ronaldo, Zico
T2 Rivaldo, Romario, Ronaldinho
T3 Falcao, Kaka
T4 Cafu, R. Carlos, Neymar, Socrates

Neymar is close to the third tier already and has potential to reach 2nd.

Kaka? Had two good seasons.

People just don't like him, even in Brazil.

Ronaldo
Rivaldo
Ronaldinho
Kaka

Unlike Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, Neymar has never done anything on a football pitch that I haven't seen before.

I can only speak about the players I've seen. So with that in mind, I think there's a huge chasm between Ronaldo and Neymar. Ronaldo was superior in every way. I'd also say that Rivaldo and especially Ronaldinho hit heights that Neymar hasn't approached (particularly when you factor in national team performances in Rivaldo's case.) I think Kaka was also superior but his decline was quite stark, which I feel has diminished my memory of just how good he was circa 2005-8. I'd imagine compelling arguments could also be made for the superiority of Romario (my main memory of him was his absolutely dominant 1994 Word Cup,) Zico, Socrates and Careca.

It's not only the NT results factor: fat Ronaldo could still destroy top defenders ate their peaks, despite his physical limitations.

1. Ronaldo
2. Zico
3. Romário
4. Ronaldinho
5. Rivaldo
6. Cafú
7. Falcão
8. Carlos
9. Neymar
10. Kaká

Sócrates (definitely makes the Top 10 for native Brazilians), Júnior, Careca, Alves, Cerezo, Marcelo, Dunga and co. finish just beyond that, IMO.

I feel like Kaká is overrated on here because of the way he destroyed United in 2007.

He was an excellent player but Neymar is comfortably a tier above him at the very least.
Yep

1: R9, Zico
2: Romario, Falcao, Socrates, Cafu
3. Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos
4. Kaka

Player I've seen play, I would say Ronaldo, Romario, Ronaldinho, Cafu, Rivaldo in that order. I would even put Marcelo ahead of Neymar.

Leo Junior better than Cafù and Socrates, maybe even of Falcao
A good shout. I don’t think that he’s been better than those players but he’s definitely close. I think he won Serie A player of the year ahead of Platini once?

The fact that his legacy is divided between two positions doesn’t help (although his interpretation of left back’s role is very similar to that of a central midfielder).

Kaka? Had two good seasons.
A bit more, but his short peak works against him. I’m sure that Neymar will overcome him, he just needs one great CL campaign to do that.

Zico is the best. Neymar is still quite far down the list.

Based on those I’ve seen, it’s a toss up between Ronaldinho and Ronaldo.

Not sure why they said 8/ others on the list but it includes Cafu,Roberto Carlos and Bebetto. As for Neymar I personally wouldnot put him in the top 10 at all. Maybe top 20. Keep in mind there are lot of Brazilians that didnot make the list.
e.g. Garincha (mabye he is not post pele), Tostao,Revelino,Jarziniho,Cerezo,Junior,Eder..etc
For Most of them their ability on the ball was often frightening.Sadly that skill diminished as they integrated to the European style of Football.

Ok, if we are going to make a top10

1. Romário
2. Ronaldo
3. Rivaldo
4. Ronaldinho
5. Zico
6. Bebeto
7. Kaká
8. Cafú
9. Sócrates
10. Dunga
then I'd add as Nº11 Roberto Carlos

Zico is usually considered number 2 after Pelé. Romario and Ronaldo fight for that 3rd spot.

A brazilian magazine said Neymar was the best brazilian player after Pelé and Mourinho said: "That Neymar is a fantastic talent no one can doubt, nor dispute that he arrived in Europe and won. But they forgot world champions, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, I remembered two, but could have more."

About right
Neymar wouldn't start for some Brazilian teams.

Ronaldo or Romario for me.

Ronaldo, pace, skill and an amazing goalscorer to boot.

Romario, the best finisher of all time in my opinion, could make a tap in look special. He'd meet a low ball with the inside of his foot and flick it in furthest corner of the goal, he'd never miss a chance If presented to him.

Just a note Ronaldinho would have been the GOAT if he'd cared enough to finish his career the way he started it.

Genius.

How is this at all surprising? He's won jack for them and is not particularly likeable.

Agree with the list, including others (probably 4-5).

I'd have Zico better than 4th, first name that came to mind as I went down the #10 route with "since Pelé", but it's hard to argue against the top three, with WC win(s) to boot.

In terms of greatest, Ronaldo and Romario should be top 2 (both winning the WC)

But in terms of best player throughout their career, I think Zico is the best. Why? Because he is great midfielder who essentially does all the playmaking, team organising, passing and assisting for his team, but apart from that, he also score more goals than most strikers throughout his career too (476 goals in 699 games)...thats probably why...

(Maybe we should have a Messi vs Zico thread)

People just don't like him, even in Brazil.

If that's true then something must have changed in the last couple of years. I was in Brazil for the WC in 2014 and the whole country adored him back then, making him out to be some sort of a mythical figure. You couldn't even buy a shirt with his name and number at some point because the whole country was out of #1 and #0 to print on the shirt.

He might be a serial diver and faker but I have massive respect for him still after witnessing the pressure they put on him in Brazil. Ronaldo and Ronaldinho still ahead for me, but Neymar have been carrying the worst Brazil NT for decades on his own shoulders.
