Which Goalkeeper?

This guy

Friedel...he's 6,4...and has the knack for playing above the competition...he has thrived the last two years, including two pk saves in the world cup...he's American, so I expect the negatives or the "he's not good enough" to come out...of course, probably has nothing to do with his country they'll say...

Tim Howard is a young American guy...and will battle Friedel and Kasey Keller for the 2006 WC USA team pecking order at GK...

Friedel has played for Liverpool so there´s no place for him at Old Trafford.

Has improved tremendously since leaving Anfield and is nothing like the clown he was back then. I´ll give you that.

Liverpool gave up on him, and he really didn't show much for them to keep him around. But I know he'd love to stick it back at them for not believing in him. His knack for big saves is amazing. The US back four is horrible, and yet Friedel has his share of clean sheets and comes up with some magnificent saves.

Yet he wore their shirt. No Scouse at OT.

He´s developed into a good keeper but he used to play for them.

cremboman...you beat me to it!!!
john o shea would definitely do a very good job in goals!!!
seriously...buffon is the best in the world but we will never get him....i think buying petr cech and letting him tussle it out with barthez would be best....might encourage barthez to raise his game and stay fit....sorry not get injured so much!

To improve on Barthez, and not merely get someone who's tall, limits the choice to only a few. If you really want quality then Buffon and Toldo have to be the targets - Real buy the very best every year, not the nearly best, and imo Robinson falls into that latter category.

Buying some young and promising keeper would be pointless, seeing as how keeper's reach their peak very late, apart from the quite incredibly talented Casillas. We'd just be moaning next year about how long the player has taken to settle in, and how they're young and will be great in the future.

From the Premiership, only two candidates stick out for me, Cudicini and Friedel. The latter has been the best keeper this season, though I'm concerned that he's not been that great before and it could just be a one off season. Cudicini though was great last season too. But the difference between him and Fab is very slight.

I think we might just have to bite the bullet and keep Fab - and get our defenders and midfielders to stop ball watching and actually defend.

i reclon we should get paul robinson(promising) and sorenson(free and experience)..
SAF can alternate btw them..
hope robinson will settle down quick and it will be a very good bargain..
and i think sven will make him first choice next yr and this will definitely add some invaluable experince to him..

Robinson. Good young English keeper who grew up supporting United apparently. Leeds are fecked financially and wouldn't be able to turn down any half decent offer.

He has not reached his peek, I see him getting better every year. I think that people will still talk about Casillas when nobody remembers Raul.

He has many chances to be still in Real when he get as old as 37 or 38 years, in year 2.020. Then, he could have won 10 CL. or more, and played 5 or 6 World Cups.

<strong>Elfie: being the resident La Championat authority, how do you rate Nicolas Penneteau?</strong><hr></blockquote>

I'm not Elfie, but, Penneteau is tipped to be the future frenchie keeper, however Cech is considered even better.

A little young and inexperienced, but obviously a big talent and he's already playing at international level. He would have joined Everton this season, but he couldn't get a work permit(having just moved up to the senior squad), but now he is a regular international, I would think he has enough games.
<a href="http://www.sport-invest.cz/CVF.php3?name=CECH_Petr" target="_blank">Petr Cech Profile</a>

It would be really good to have a really big guy like Petr Cech between the sticks, and he's young an addition to an already young backline. Rustu, not really sure how he would perform outside of the turkish league, a possible risk. Paul Robinson another great prospect already familiar with Rio, or try to get Brad Friedel. Definite no on David "Calamity" James, that would be an absolute nightmare come true, arrrrrggggh!

Can anyone confirm that Robinson was a United supporter? I thought he was pretty much Leeds to the core which is why I couldn't see him joining us.

According to a reporter in the Guardian. Not sure how he knows as I doubt Robinson's ever come out and said it.

Not the kind of thing you'd admit to in his position is it?!

Hi!
Buffon and Toldi si better, I think, but they are very difficult to buy. I don't know Cech, I look for in internet now and they speak very good of him. We don't have any goalkepeer in our youth team? Rustu is a normal goalkepeer, not a champion. Cudicini is a very good player, for me. And here the journal says who Robinson go to the Arsenal...
What do you think of Wright?

bye Max

Ideally Robinson: best keeper in the world in the future
Likely: I think Fab wil stay.

I can't believe that the following names have been put forward as replacements (remember - a replacement should be a better player in this context) :

Friedel (Scouse reject)
Didluca (who?)
Sorensen (Sunderland reject)
Chilavert (feckin idiot)
Howard (who?)

Laughable.

If Niemi is being considered, what about the man who kept him out of the team and forced him to move on?

Step forward, Stefan Klos.

He can pull of a great dummy tho, had me fooled... ;)

Cudicini (Chelsea)
Sebastian Frey (Parma)
Mikael Landreau (Nantes)
Paul Robinson (Leeds)
Any of those keepers I'd be happy with.

I think were all kidding ourselves talking about buying a goalie, Fergie's not showing signs of wanting to release fab, and weve got 2 other goalies competing against him, would he buy Ricardo and then buy a young goalkeeper year after ?

i for one have been quite impressed with santiago canizarez. he commands his defence well and always impresses me whenever he plays. only problem is communication. yeah...that's a big minus

<a href="http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=143620&cpid=8&title=Arsenal+set+to+sign+striker" target="_blank">Arsenal want Petr Cech</a>

According to his agent, Arsenal are watching Cech weekly but would prefere to wait a year, but the agent says they can do the deal this Summer. Its interesting because they are saying he is eligible for a work permit, which was not the case last Summer. I've heard this rule about competitive international games played by non-EU is not always followed to the letter; they sometimes accept on appeal.
Anyway Cech looks like a being a world class keeper, of course his agent is saying he's already the best around.

spot on.

Cudicini is one of the best goalkeeper in the EPL. He is much better than Robinson at this moment. Robinsion is all about potential now, but United need a goalkeeper who is already world class and stable, not a potential.
