If we replaced the frenchman who would we want?

Let's have your ideal (but unrealistic), your likely and your speculative candidates.

For me ideal would be Kahn, likely would Rustu I'm sorry to say, and speculative would be this young but huge framed Czech, Petr something I think, or Robinson but I honestly don't think he'd play for us.

Whenever we talk abt replacement for bartez the name that come to my mind is paul robinson. He is young, telanted, he and rio have played in same team so they will have some understanding of each other's game. Besides that he is english and already in englang's team will be a added bonus for us. Well we all know abt leeds finance problem so it wont be that hard to buy him, after we manage to buy rio from. He already have CL experiance. He can batter as time goes. I will say it will be a great deal.

We need an older Keeper, sorry to say. Otherwise the inexperiance and youth of our back 4 will be show us up in Europe.

Rustu would be good, but what is his English like? Does he have enough presence to command our back 4?

its amazing to see what one good world cup does for your reputation

robinson or niemi

I'm not in the least interested in Rustu mate. I also have a feeling the United job might be too big for Niemi.

Niemi would do well at United.
but in a dream world id take Kahn

i have a terrible feeling Fergie will persue his long-time interest in David James

Jens, Rustu was also great in the euro2000 and has been great for the past 8-10 years for his club and for the turkish NT. He just happens to play in Turkey where he isn't being noticed as much.
If he had played in one of the big leagues he would be considered one of the 3 best keepers in the world.
It is funny how some of you say Rustu isn't good enough and then mention 2-3 other keepers who have never proven their worth.

How about Thomas Sørensen? He will be on a free transfer in the summer.

how old are buffon or cassillias... we need a good keeper if we are to replace bartez it doesnt matter how old they are if they are good enough.

Idealy... Buffon but theres no chance

Likley... Rustu because he's the cheep option and SAF needs money for a striker

Speculative... Amelia (Italian under 21 keeper) if we can sign him before AC do

Niemi would probably be another Bosnich but with better attitude. Making tons of saves in a mediocare team is one thing, playing for Manchester United is quite differrent.

keeping wise i didnt think Bosnich was that bad for us, in fact i thought he was a good keeper.
attitude wise he was a fat, arrogant dickhead who deserved to get the boot

Toldo and Buffon are my favourites but would take an enormous amount of money to lure them to OT while Sorensen, Landreau, Abbiati and Robinson are extremely promising but still too young to lead Manchester United defense.

I would bring in Rustu and buy Sorensen as his second (he will do anything now to leave Sunderland)

+ bring Schmicke as our goalkeeper's coach

I think a good option would be to pick up Rustu on a free, who is a class, experienced keeper, and also invest in Constanzo. He is only 20 yet rated the best goalie in Argentina, he currently plays for River and the current state of poverty over there could probably swipe him for a couple of mil.

He could then be second choice to Rustu and would learn a lot from his experience.

Petr Cech 6'7", 240lb, Fergie saw him play for Rennes against Auxerre and was impressed(beat Cisse one on one to keep the game scoreless). He is the czech #1 at 20yo, he's considered a special talent; Sparta Prague payed a record(czech) fee to sign him as a 19yo, in a couple of months he took over as first choice, then impressed in the CL, and later that Summer stared for the U21s(despite already being the senior #1) winning the european champ, and after just one season with Sparta Prague transfered to Rennes(suprising a lot of people because lazio and Arsenal were keen).

is he better than Robinson, if he is then we should get him, he is not too young, look at Casillas

That Cech guy looks a really interesting prospect.

Carini, the Uruguayan NT keeper, would also be high on my list. Is he still backing up Buffon at Juventus?

Forgot about Cudicini. BUt this Czech geeza looks the business - he's feckin huge - reminds me of the great one.

Well i hope we sign him then. What do you think of Frey?

It's gonna be a long time again I can tell.

i think i read an interview with that young guy not so long ago. He said it was his dream to play in the english league one day & expressed an interest in Utd.
sign him up. get rid of Ricardo and Carroll.
let Barthez and him fight it out, may the best man win.
