What's happened to Sky Sources?

They've laid off all their reporters and now hire any random dude to scroll through Twitter rumours all day and pass that off as sources. That's the impression I get anyway.

They're only interested in making money through Sky Bet now. When they report a rumour and loads go and place a bet they make more money. Simple as that. They're not as interested in ensuring sources are valid anymore.

This is a myth. Skybet make feck all from transfer betting in the grand scheme of things. It's a tiny market.

think thier just doing the same as everyone else trying to get clicks and coverage, been accurate doesn't matter these days unfortunately.

Think a mixture of social media and certain journalists building brushes with players and clubs have been their downfall. They took their eye off the ball and others jumped at the opportunity.

yeh i remember the days before social media and when that yellow ticker said Breaking news and sky sources at the end, it was nailed on almost.

Now Twitter is the place to go for news

Not only that, but SKY don't actually own an awful lot of SKyBet, they own a fraction of it. So basically, there are conspiracy theorists on here who believe SKY make up transfer stories so they can get their tiny fraction of the tiny profit that transfer bets actually offer up.

SKY get so much transfer activity wrong these days because clubs USE the media to their own advantage. We - United - are the masters of it. We throw media agencies off the scent of who we are really buying because it strengthens our hand in negotiations.

Going slightly off topic but Sky Sports News HQ is changing back to Sky Sports News at some point this week... I don't really get the change, surely it's the same thing just without the HQ?

Probably because their chums (i.e. the likes of Allardyce, Redknapp, Pardew etc.) aren't involved any more.

As I'm sure has been mentioned, Skybet happened. Transfers news is leaked i.e. 'Sky Sources confirm that 'club' are close to signing/interested in signing 'player'', then people lump money on the convenient transfer markets on Skybet and low and behold the transfer never materialises. in other words there is a huge conflict of interest between making money and reporting the truth.

They're garbage. According to them, we are signing Ronaldo, Matic, Varane and Mertens.

Also we're selling De Gea seemingly every week in a random "swap deal"... they're obsessed with this story and I'm convinced they draw a random Madrid player out of a hat depending on which week it is.

The word "Sources" has always meant, regardless of the media outlet: we have made this up but let's see if it comes true

It's simple. Their trusted mouthpieces are now gone. Either managers or club spokesmen/women. Their beloved contacts gone. People left feed them shite or dont tell them anything. Now most of their rumours are twitter related or are a friend of a friends girlfriends mothers gardener (aka Ballague).....etc. THat and Jim Whites phone doesnt have whatsapp.....
