This looks a well thought out assesment but its also a stars aligning scenario.I totally disagree, we are still Manchester United with huge assets and top 3 wage in EPL. The word sack should only be used when connected to Amorim’s name is if he goes on a run like Pep 1 win 2 draws and 7 defeats in 10 games.
Short Term - Rest of Season
We have 23 PL games left are currently 13th and Ruben’s had a bad start which will become very bad if he loses heavily to City tomorrow. We need to sell 1/2 players January and raise Some serious cash. The club needs to go buy V Osimhen or V Gyokeres for £65m and sacrifice M Rashford for £45m, C Eriksen £5m.
We must get him 2 major players early in January, Marquee Striker and left wing back. Then he must win 60% of the remaining PL games, he should be told that the club expects 60/20/20 win 60% draws 20% lose 20%, Concentrate on Europa League and PL, by mid January we’ll be out of both domestic cups so Ruben will have all the time he needs to drill the system.
That means that Ruben’s Target should be 13 wins 5 draws and 5 Defats in Pl as the bare minimum which would finish on 63 points and probably 7th -9th again. Over achieving would be win 15 draw 5 lose 3 that’s 69 points and probably ends up 5th which is CL football. The Europa League he has to try and win it but the target should be Semi Final
Target 25/26 Season
The club should have given him 7/8 players that suit his system including much better attacking options and another couple of major midfielders like Angel Gomes and Ederson from Atlanta.
We should qualify for Europa league as bare minimum and I’m expecting a top 3 PL challenge, City will be Out of the picture and we should be competing with Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea next season otherwise there was zero point appointing a. CEO like Berrada and one of the best young coaches like Amorim who expect to win and win big!
Ruben’s Team options for 25/26 should be;
A Onana/A Lunin (GK) *
N Mazraoui/L Yoro (RCB)
*J Tah/H Maguire (CB)
L Martinez/ L Shaw/ G kukonki LCB)
A Dialo/D Dalot(RWB)
M Ugarte/Ederson*(6/8)
K Mainoo/A Gomes*(CM)/T Collyer
M Kerkes*/D Leon*/B Mantato (LWB)
Bruno/ M Mount(L10)
F Trincao*/ T Dybling* /S Lacey (R10)
V Gyokeres*/R Hojlund/C Obi Martin (9)
These players will cost £250m with two free transfers of Johnathon Tah and Angel Gomes.
I’m convinced Amorim and now Wilcox will purge this squad and the following will be sold/released/loaned ;
A Bayinder - £5m
V Lindelof - released
J Evan’s - released
T Mallacia - £5m
MDL - £30m (Amorim doesn’t fancy him, his lack of pace is a problem and his passing and physicality are not as good as Maguire plus we need 8 homegrown players and he’ll fetch more cash)
H Amass -£10m (profit)
D Gore - £5m (profit huge mistake)
A Garnaucho - £55m (just doesn’t suit the system)
Casemiro - £15m Saudi
Eriksen - Free
Antony - £20m Saudi
J Sancho - £23m deal done
M Rashford - £42m (He’ll go this summer/100% profit)
J Zirkzee - £33m (Juventus bound to link up with Motta again)
E Wheatley - £7m (100% profit again)
That’s the £250m needed to buy those players, solves homegrown problems and sorts out the PSR issues.
Nobody is paying 15m for Casemiro. I would rather keep MDL than instantly lose circa 15m on him with in fairness him doing a good job so far.
Amass is highly rated with hopes of him filling a position we are crying out for so 10m is a bad sale. Would much rather see him with game time and look what he can produce.
Sadly we wont get 42m for Rashford, the fact is hes going to be a struggle to move on. Best case scenario is that he rediscovers his love for the game and plays like a Utd fan representing his team but thats a massive reach. I really think he doesnt trust his own body.
Selling Zirkzee is premature, give the guy a chance. I was actually impressed with him on Thursday , yes he lost the ball a lot but he looked like he had a little fire in his belly and wanted to make things happen. Alos a lot of the lost possesion was him fighting for loose balls and hold up play.
Everyone loves Gykores and he does look good but he is playing in portugal , its a risky high value transfer, even more so when his profile is not miles off that of Rasmus.
Dibling looks a classy operator but will be highly sought with a bidding war very likely. Can we really afgord that ?
Angel Gomes makes complete sense and will add a lot to the team. Trincao will be expensive and is unproven in the PL but you do have to take chances somewhere.
Jonathan Tah will likely end up at Bayern and Man City are rumoured for Ederson to fill in for Rodri, we do need another definsively efficient CM though.
The reality is that there is tons of work to do and the current moment is terrible for preparation. Its literally learning on the job so its going to take time.
The big thing that gives me hope is that I genuinely believe Amorim can see all this and more and will address it.
Edit. Went off topic.
I just want to see him continue as he is. The signs are there just keep pushing on.
