Gaming What is the best video game soundtrack ever

Skyrim, it’s why I keep going back to it. I don’t think I have ever played anything where the music has elevated it so much. It’s almost like a comfort thing going back to it.

Red Dead Redemption soundtrack was a masterpiece. Its unfortunate that RDR2 soundtrack wasn't even close.

RDR2 has some incredible songs though. Unbroken and That’s the Way It Is are just amazing needle drop moments when they come in.

I love going back to Solitude just for the music there.

The final mission song in the RDR2 is gaming history...

Shenmue

Zelda: Ocarina of Time

GTA Vice City

This guy knows what's up!

Ocarina of Time's soundtrack is right up there with me, for sure. Shenmue's also gives me all kinds of feelings. Same with the sequel.

Would have to put The Witcher 3's soundtrack at the top somewhere, too. Love Novigrad's themes, but the tunes as you're traipsing around Skellige are immense, too.

A little bit cheating in a way as it's a bit of a mega-mix, but the Super Smash Bros. Melee soundtrack is special to me.

A little bit out there, but the OST for Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun, too. Still rocks, to this day.

I find Legend of Mana ost unique. Its hard to describe. Theres something magical about them

My favourite might be this one:

My choice was going to be Secret of Mana! Different composers but clearly Square have good taste. Into The Thick Of It and A Phantom And A Rose are incredible on SoM. I've not played LoM.

Other picks from me have already been mentioned here - Ocarina of Time and Super Mario World.

If we're talking original soundtracks, Sonic Adventure 1 has always had a special place for me
Yes! I was going to mention this. Loved how every place had it's own OST. So much music, so much of it beautiful.

Skies of Arcadia too...

I miss the Dreamcast

Baldur’s Gate 3 was pretty awesome, especially Rafael signing along to his own theme song
Was about to type this. Full of epic stuff from top to bottom, but the Raphael's final act was simply brilliant. If you cast silence he stops singing too  .

Btw Larian liked it so much they let Borislav Slavov appear as the god of music in the epilogue!

THPS1 smacks the tits off of THPS2.

Dead Kennedys, Unsane, Suicidal Tendencies and that one Goldfinger song >> anything on THPS2.

The Consumed song on THPS2 is killer, but Papa Roach drags it down.

Of the recent ones max payne 3 and inside were memorable for me.

The latter doesn't exactly have anything you could call a conventional soundtrack but it works quite well when you're playing through the game itself.

Haha, I think Superman is still the only Goldfinder song I know, and I frequently can't get it out of my head.

SSX, GTA, NFS, THPS, FIFA etc. are VA compilations. I loved most of the songs included, but it would be more interesting if I only include games with OST personally made for them or by the studio itself.

so I'd go with something like Unreal Tournament, older Diablo games, Elder Scrolls games, NWN, Fable, Tekken, Silent Hill, Parappa the Rapper, perhaps ancient Sonic games, Magic Jewelry...

I'm forgetting some obvious titles no doubt.

Pretty much anything on the Amiga. Absolutely brilliant time for game music and a huge step up of what was possible. Turrican 2 and Prince of Persia obvious highlights.

But everyone in here is naming top soundtracks, great to see!
Amiga had truly ruthless soundtracks. Turrican 2, Super Frog, Lotus II, Chaos Engine, Wings of Fury, and then there was this:

That tone and vibe was inimitable, and sounded cleaner even than SNES sound chip which was quite awesome thing then.

Another fantastic score I had completely forgotten about, especially the final track.

I don‘t think it‘s the best - that would be Streets of Rage 2 obviously - but since I haven‘t seen it being mentioned so far: shout out to Monkey Island 2.
