What do we still need? Post Summer 2015 edition.

There was something in the M.E.N earlier today about the board being wary of going after PL stars as after this season the TV money will make it that clubs don't need to sell or if they do the fees will be more than the players are worth bordering on astronomic. We might be looking abroad for signings.

I would hope so. Tielemans, Sane and Laporte/Umtiti is just few of the good ones.

Only 250m then :D
Haha I know. I don't think we can get a lot of money for Fellaini, Mata, Young, Valencia, Carrick and Rooney.
Maybe we can sign talented and cheaper players in those positions, for example:
Laporte, Isco, Sane, and Texeira. Still a lot of money.

The thing is when it comes to a #9 the options are thin on the ground and the prices will be enormous no matter where you buy from.

All talented players and affordable too. Smart business is what we should do.

They will be because over the last fews years Manchester United have been beyond desperate.

And we are more desperate than ever right now, I just don't see where we can avoid being fleeced, and if we are going to be fleeced we might as well be fleeced for a bit more and get a top talent.

Martial
Depay Isco Sane
Schneiderlin Tielemans
Shaw Laporte Smalling Damo
DdG
Give Depay and Darmian a chance to show that they can adapt properly. Good looking side, but Young attack of course, it would take some years.

Ed has been briefing this since last month. I don't blame him. It's just the way things are. Leicester are quoting £35m for Jamie Vardy ffs.

That side is way too young IMO, needs a couple of more proven players in the mix.

Gundogan instead of Tielemans and Griezmann instead of Depay, move Isco to the left.

I like that! Louis Van Gaal prefers his AM to be á second striker anyways, so it would be a good choice to go for Griezmann. The hard part is convincing him to come here.

The fact that our manager would be in his last year and if they definitely confirm Giggs as manager will make things difficult. If these players knew a big name winning manager was to take over than they might take the plunge. Would they want to risk an inexperienced manager when they were already at successful clubs?

It's true.

The sort of players we need are Kane and Stones but those two alone would cost absolutely insane money. I mean insane.

Still think they would be worth it but we are a business so I don't see us spending more than our profits every summer to get the top PL talent.

We are not a seriously concerning situation as the money required to rebuild this team into real PL contenders, let alone CL challengers, will be way, way more than we have spent so far since Fergie left.

Isco - Griezmann - Sane
Schneiderlin - Gundogan

I think we can pay Laporte's release clause, and sign Sane in January (maybe even Isco. However, I think he will go to City with Pep in the summer).

It's funny that Woody was saying on the shareholders conference call a few months back that he expected things to "normalize" with regards to transfers in/out now.

If anything, we need a turnover at least as big as the last two.

We need 6 new first team players. 5 at absolute minimum.

I don't think Giggs will be our NeXT manager, it's something people are saying because they wan't to think of their worst nightmare.
And frankly if they don't want to play for Manchester United i couldn't give a sh*t, we are better off without divas.

Players want to win. It isn't them being divas. We are fans not all players support Manchester United. Therefore they have to have the incentive to join us. We could sign a load of players who are fans of us and we could be in the National League before we know it.

Well Griezmann is a United fan and I imagine we could boost his wages signifigantly, but I admit that Atleti team look pretty tight knit and love Simeone.

It looks a really good team

I think Griezmann is the key piece as he'd take the scoring burden off of Martial and share it. Isco has more chance of playing regularly with us than with City, but if they want him and do have Pep then we'd have no chance.

Im finding it hard to pick a team as I don't know where to play Martial. I would probably prefer to see him up front but he'd be up top on his own which means we aren't signing a Kane, Lukaku or Aubameyang to sit on the bench.

Happy new year for everyone!

Which players would you sign in these positions and why?
  • Center back
  • Midfielder
  • No.10
  • Right winger
  • Striker

Hummels/Stones
Pogba
Mane

Lewandowski

A bit far fetched but think the first four are there to be had if the money is right.

Get Ronnie back and he will draw all the attention away from the younger players while they settle in.

What we need in my opinion

Defender: Would love Stones, but Laporte more realistic
(Why? I think we need somebody solid and can play consistently to partner Smalling)

Midfielder: Pogba would be the dream, but the likes of Gundogan would be a nice addition (Can't really think of anybody else at the moment)
(Why? I think we need somebody to replace Carrick. Somebody who can defend well, but has good passing ability to compliment Morgan)

No.10: If Isco or James are really available, then I would do my up most to sign one of these
(Why? I think Rooney and Mata are about done, at the two above are about as good as you can get)

Winger / Striker: Griezmann, Griezmann, Griezmann or Reus
(Why? Need some pace up front. Griezmann would be the absolute dream here. Martial, Depay and Griezmann can all rotate positions in a 3 man wing attack)

I know this would never happen, but what frustrates me is, over the last few years, these are the type of players we should have been bringing in. The above team could have been a team we walk out against Swansea with

What frustrates me as a United supporter is, we don't always seem to go for the obvious signings, or should I say, we go for the signings so obvious, yet everybody can see its not the right option.

Nothing against Bastian, but when Gundogan asked for a transfer request, we should have been all over it, but we ended up going for the older, cheaper and more injury prone option (I know Gundogan has had his fair share of injury problems)

Again with Mata. A lot of talk about him being unhappy at Chelsea and upstep United. We pay 40m for a number 10 we don't play, or a winger with no pace who doesn't take people on.

We just seem a club who lack vision, as others have said, it seems a very scattergun approach. We get the players first, then decide to cram them in somehow.

Was listening to Talksport last night and Terry Gibson, Sky's spanish football pundit, said he thought he should stay where he is for the time being, that he has more power at the club than other managers in Spain. That the club adore him, that he is building a really impressive young team.

Interesting reading here. I must be in the minority because i think we could do very well with just a few additions of real quality. Here is what we must get...

Manager- I hope LVG is gone this summer. I want Pep of Simeone.

#9- I am not a fan of Rooney despite the goal yesterday, far too many games he has been missing. I also love Martial but he is too young to count on every day and we need some competition and to rotate a bit.

Winger- We need some pace and brilliance on the wing.

CB- We need better than Blind starting. I love Blind and want him here just want him as a super sub.

So in theory we could go with this starting next year and I think do fairly well...

-------------DDG-------------
Darmien-Smalling--????---Shaw
-------------BSW-------------
Lingaard-Mata---Herrera---????
-------------?????------------

Thoughts?

Lingard is a tidy player but nothing more than a squad player unfortunately, if we're going to play any of the existing squad as a winger i'd prefer to play Young or Januzaj. Would also swap Schweinsteiger with Schneiderlin.

I think the midfield would get dominated, Mata and Lingard shouldn't be in any United main starting 11 for me, and Martial should be first choice on the left IMO.

Let's get some class players into the team, get back to the level we used to be at.

This is pretty much what I think we need to be doing in the market at this point. Stop wasting time on impossible targets like Neymar/Bale and focus on attainable top level talent. The four you mentioned basically cross off the entire list of "categories" I think we should be looking at for the first team: Established, proven talent at 2nd tier clubs (Higuain/Gundogan), talented players not getting enough gametime at top tier clubs for whatever reason (Lucas) and up and coming, high potential players at "lesser" clubs (Stones).

Other players that fit these categories that would massively improve us would be for example Griezmann, Isco and Laporte. The top talents from the Ukrainian league seem do have done well this year in bigger leagues after flying under the radar for a bit, so maybe Texeira or Yarmolenko might be worth a look as well (not going to pretend I have any idea myself). Anyway, the point is, there's plenty of talent out there that would be very gettable for us without much trouble. We just need the airheads that are running the circus to wake up and accept reality.

Apart from Stones I see 2 has beens (higuain BARELY even that, he was a very good flat track bully at his best and has found his level in a shit league where those two chelsea flops thrive) and a young player who has been good ish in the french league playing for the most dominant team there.

City spent £100m on two players for their attack last summer which already contained Aguero, Bony and Silva.

I'd say we should be looking to spend a similar amount, probably more as I think we need 3 players rather than two.

Then there is a backup left back to think about and a new CM if Carrick is on his way out, although maybe we think Saul is going to cover that.

It's the very opposite of what we've been used to where we'd buy unobvious signings who fulfil a role very well, despite not being that talented. I'm not adverse to the switch but there still needs to be some kind of vision beforehand. Weird that its changed so much so quickly.
