I'd have CB as a much bigger need just because Varane can't be relied upon to stay healthy. Varane/Lindelof would be a perfectly solid partnership if they could play 40 games together.

Just don't care which players will come this summer as they will not be top players like we all dream of (Rice, Haaland etc), but I am more eager to see a lot of them far from our club.

I just can't bear them anymore, these lazy players are awful to see week in week out.

Just hope for a massive exodus.

Reasonably we can say that by not being in CL we can have a gap of - 40M in the income, but getting rid of these 10 players should be a +60M vs this year (accountability works at financial year level so this is the way they can balance the accounts).

But these are the players I would like to get rid off ( free ~30M/ year)

- Martial (~13M/ year)
- Maguire (~9M/ year)
- Shaw (~6M/ year)
- Dalot (~2M/ year)
 
I'm more excited about what players will be leaving the club this season than the ones we'll be bringing in. That's how utterly dislikeable these players are.

A lot of youth promotion and cheap, even free signings will probably be the direction we go - we just have way too many holes.

1 or 2 bigger money signings needed.

We also need to keep hold of the less rubbish players to fill the squad - Bruno, Shaw, Lindelof, Fred, McTominay, Rashford, etc will all probably have bigish roles next year.

Benefit of the doubt to the likes of Sancho, Varane, Elanga. Just starting they United career in pure chaos and toxicity. Better needed nonetheless.

Mejbri, Amad, Garnacho, Garner seem the obvious youth promotions. There are others also.

Centre Midfield x3 - Physical, fast, stamina.

Full Backs x3 - Fast, stamina, can cross.

Striker - Clinical, good movement, goal scorer. Kane will do. Have to be clinical.

These 6 we need. Even if we dont get Tchoumeni or Mazraoui, we can get other attainable targets. I dont see our spend exceeding 200M. Which is good. We need to spend smart.

I think jimenez would be the type of character and player that would benefit the right type of culture at the club and ten hag.

Dennis at Watford is someone to look at as well, he can play anywhere across the front 3 and has saved Watford from already being dead and buried in the relegation battle.
 
A proper sporting director. All the top-performing clubs have them now. We need consistency with our recruitment to ensure the team plays cohesively with a real tactic and ethos. I've seen Paul Mitchell's name linked, Monchi (a few years ago) and also Luis Campos. Any ideas who would be best? Or would Rangnick take this position? We need an experienced, proper footballing expert willing to stick around for a while to take the reigns for this project.

In terms of squad recruitment I think these are the bare necessities:

1 x CB I think we need a younger player so - Timber*, Schlotterbeck, P. Torres or Tomori.
2 x CM (2 of Rice, Tchouameni, Kamara*, Phillips, Ndidi and Fabian, Soler* or Maddison)
1 x RW - Antony* or Raphinha
1 x CF (Håland the dream but we don't have a chance. Would have liked Vlahović :( So I think we're probably looking at Nuñez, David or Schick*)

* = probably what we'll end up with with no champions league football, slow recruitment and cost/contracts.

I'm also coming to the belief that de Gea needs to be replaced and that Dalot/Wan Bissaka aren't good enough but not sure what is available in the market for those positions and how much we'll have to spend. We need a full cultural reset but can't get rid of the whole squad this summer. Either way I think we'll be saying goodbye to the following:

Really unpopular opinion but we should go all out for son, I know his antics annoy fans but he is right up there with mane and jota in terms of the best attacking inside forwards in the premier league, only Salah is better than him

Other than Son being a world class player why? Would it not just be a case of buying a really good player without thinking how they fit into our system because Son would want to play LW which Sancho occupies.

People need to stop bringing up Mazraoui. We're finally on the verge of being clean of Raiola and his plague of wrong sorts. The last thing we need to be considering is bringing in another raft of them.

Timber, Frimpong, Mukiele, Livramento, Lamptey, Aarons - there are plenty of decent young right backs we could look at brining in. I also think Ten Hag could get a decent tune out of Dalot and Laird.

In central midfield Id like two proper quality all round midfielders but more defensive minder, other names being Caqueret and Enzo Fernandes if Tchouameni is too hard to sign as expect a lot of competition.

Antony because of his connections with Ten Hag, not seen much of him, Doku is another name.

Striker wise I think all the names we have been linked with are too expensive and I think Giouri can be a real star and Ekitike has loads of raw talent....Id only go for Ekitike though if Greenwood is finished as see him up front if he somehow resurrects his career here

we need a good left back and I would not be surprised if Ten Haag goes for Malacia (Feyenoord) or Wijndahl (AZ) both are exceptional and the injury to Shaw does not augur well for the future

Wijndal isn’t quite ready for United. He’s having his best season for AZ so far but it’s a huge step up that I don’t think he’s ready for. Can’t say I’ve seen much of Malacia.

I think it could get interesting with ten Hag. I believe United need hungry players. Like Bruno when he arrived. Players with balls and not necessarily players from big teams.

Years ago when I was following the Bundesliga week out week in and also watching a lot of European minnows in UEFA Cup, Europa League or Champions League ties I could have told you about emerging young chaps like Reus at 'Gladbach, Shaqiri at Basel or Kevin Kampl at Salzburg. Players with ambition on the cheap and much better than overrated cr*p who just happen to have a higher profile due to playing in EPL, La Liga or Serie A. Players who you only had to watch 15 minutes of before realizing how good they could become.

My friends absolutely dug me out when I claimed 20 yr old Müller, prior to WC 2010 where he won the Golden Ball, was better than Kaka who had just signed for Real. In the end one was on the way up and the other on the decline.

I don't have a clue anymore who the emerging talents are but I'm sure ten Hag knows better than most because dutch clubs are on a shoe string budget. He is bound to know every single talent of the dutch league and we all know that is one of the best leagues for developing young talent. I also believe ten Hag could already have a ready made list of transfer targets from Bulgaria, Sweden, Belgium and so on - lesser leagues that Ajax might poach from. Some might need a buy and loan-agreement but I'm sure some players could do the job right away provided the opportunity and the correct guidance.

And just to make it clear, I'm no oracle. I get it wrong sometimes and if you invest a lot of money it could be detrimental. I was sure Kampl would reach Reus-level, Wilmar Barrios would reach Arturo Vidal-level and I thought Marc Albrighton 20 yr old at Aston Villa would become close to Sterlings level. All three still had alright careers but they couldn't hit the heights I imagined when they wowed me. I also thought Aristide Bancé, a legend in his own right in Africa, could be a poor mans Drogba for a Everton or Tottenham but instead after Mainz he went on to play for 13 clubs in 10 years. Still managed a silver and bronze in Afcon for Burkina Faso though.
 
I saw one video that said at ajax he played blind nearly as a centre back and the right back nearly as a CM. if he wanted to do something like that he will need new full backs. we have decent centre backs

early at ajax he played a very deep play maker in de jong and later played a very traditional holder in alvarez... we have neither of those players so he needs to add one. further up in midfield we bring donny back, we have bruno, fred and scott so we do have numbers.

front 3, clearly cavani will be replaced. hopefully martial leaves. greenwood is gone, lingard gone. we have rashford, elenga, ronaldo, sancho and maybe martial for 3 slots add diallo and pellistri if he likes them. it really is very light on depth. we do need at least 2 bodies here. i dont think they need to be huge names.
 
I would say your most pressing needs are CM (possibly two of them), RB and a new CB. Probably more but it's hard to do that much surgery on a team in one summer.

I think guys like Shaw and De Gea should also be on the chopping block eventually.
 
Looking into the detail I think we can balance the books, condense the squad, give Ten Hag a decent summer budget and rid the squad of dross and fringe players.

Id say equally important to the ST is the RB and maybe even LB if Shaw is not upto it. We have the worst players in those positions outside of CM.

Possible we could be left with a squad of 22 players, I loook at that squad and feel we probably need loads of additions to the current first team squad. A lot are youngsters too and there is a possibility some youngsters can step up....but

We probably/possibly after this summer require:

1) A new number two keeper

Be that a number two such as Johnstone or a yougn hot shot modern keeper to challenge DeGea over the next few years

2) A left back to genuinely challenge Shaw for the first team spot

Telles cant defend-off, Williams I dont see as a long term contender as a starter, Fernandez is still just a kid

3) Probably twto centre backs

We dont have a first choice centre back let alone a pairing, Varane has been average and los of niggling inuries, Maguire awful and Lindelof though as improved I dont even see as a great squad options as a number three, should be fourth choice. We need a first choice centre back and someone to challenge the first choice pairing as we have neither of quality

4) Possibly two right backs

Sorry Dalot is shite, will be off if we dont and I sure hope we dont offer him a new contract in a year. Maybe Laird can step up as a second choice

5) Two central midfielders

None of our dm options are actually defensive midfileders, Klopp scoffed about our lack of a defensive midfielder against them, we need to sign two, one an all out defensive midfielder and one maybe more rounded, but a defensive midfielder

6/7) A new right winger and a new striker

This is very much dependant on the future of Greenwood. But the possible right wing options, maybe one can be a second choice option, there is absoltuely zero starting options though.

I see Greenwood more as a striker, but if he goes, we literally only have Ronaldo who will be 38 next year

Maybe Laird can be one to step up squad wise for the right back slot, maybe Garnacho can step up and Rashford improve allowing SAncho to move to the right.....but this squad needs nine additions minimum this summerto genuinely solve our current problems playing wise.

That is absolutely mad, how poor we actually are. No way we sign nine, for me no way we should uy four biggish signings though.

I would like to see six signings, maybe a couple of those £45-55m, but there have to be a couple of really astute cheaper purchases this summer in my opinion, there simply HAS to be five signings this summer or we are merely papering over the cracks again

Greenwood if he is cleared, Garnacho, Hannibal, Sancho would all be of interest I feel.

Outside of the youngsters....maybe Martial/Rashford/Shaw for Arsenal or Spurs but probably none for the top threewhich is a sad indicement
