What approach would you like to see from us in coming transfer windows?

In the next two windows:

Sell or contract expire:
Evans
M. Keane
Fletcher
Anderson
Cleverley
Young
Zaha
Nani
Mata
van Persie
Hernandez

Purchase:
Hummels
Clyne
Strootman
Depay
Benzema

Squad:

GK:
de Gea, Lindegaard, Milinkovic

DF: Hummels, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Blackett, McNair, Rafael, Clyne, Shaw

MF: Strootman, Blind, Herrera, di Maria, Carrick, Fellaini, Januzaj, Depay, Valencia, Pereira, Lingard

FW: Benzema, Rooney, Wilson

I feel like this is potentially realistic aside from Hummels and Benzema, but I don't see who we could sign as an alternative to Hummels with exceptional pedigree and we need a pacy forward so Benzema seems the most suitable candidate IMO. Who knows, he belongs to Madrid and knowing them, they might ditch him for the next flavour of the month.

We don't even know if well get to sign these other midfielders or if the youth players will make the grade,Welbeck was a bright prospect and he didnt reach the level that was required of him.
If Fellani has a good season for us Id have no problem holding on to him,I just think its a bit soon to add him to the departures list as we havent seen enough of him and I wouldnt count last seasons performances as most of the team played crap.

I wasn't counting just last season against, I have never thought he was good enough, his current use and option until we get better is fine, but his all round game just isn't good enough even for a squad player if we want to get back on top and continue to give our youth products a chance.

While it's not normal for a club to have such an injury crisis, it's not anything out of the norm for Smalling, Jones or Evans to be injured and that's where the problem lies. If I was to pick a date, let's say the second weekend of February, would I expect to have any of those three players to be match fit and have a few games under their belt? The answer is absolutely not. I don't expect that to be the case, there will be one or two injured and the other will be coming back from an injury or half fit.

That's a huge problem.

Fwiw - I've set a note on my phone to remind me to check their injury status on that date to see how accurate that prediction is.

True when it comes to our CB's, I was just saying that it is rare for any one position to have so many injuries and you can't carry infinite cover in your squad, so to add to CM we'll need to trim as well.

I think that's absolutely essential.

For me, Smalling and Evans are the ones that have to be trimmed. I'd buy a proven CB for each position and have:

RCB: Experience, Jones, McNair
LCB: Experience, Rojo, Blackett

Then from January or next summer onwards, send the youngsters out on EPL loans with the option to recall.

No disagreement there, they'd be the 2 I'd sell for sure. Not sure if we can get experience in both RCB and LCB but certainly one should be in his late twenties, of course I might just be saying that because I'd like to see us add Laporte as a LCB.

Agree with Smalling, think the club tried to move him on in the Summer as part of a potential deal for Vermaelen

Evans is a trickier one - injury record has been awful for a year or so, form hasn't been anywhere near what it should be but I still think when he is fit he provides good backup and has shown for years previously he is a quality defender

Looked much more solid in the past than Rojo has....

I think it was quite the opposite with Smalling. Wenger dug his heels in on Vermaelen by asking for Smalling and we obviously said no as CB was a position we were trying to add numbers to so it would have been counter productive to let him go.

I've always rated Evans but the injuries are a massive problem. It's time to replace him with someone fit.

As for Rojo, he's getting a really harsh deal as far as some fans go.

He's in a new club, in a new league, in a new country, with a new language, under a new manager and being asked to play next to a new partner every single game and only in the last few games has he finally got a settled left back next to him.

It's beyond ridiculous to judge him yet. It's hardly like Silvestre at CB who had Ferdinand regularly next to him and Heinze to his left yet still made huge brainfarts and positional errors.

Who'll be leaving this year then? Who I think/like to leave.

Leaving on a free:
Anderson
Fletcher
Cleverly

Sold
Evans
Young
Valencia

Buying
CM
Winger
CB x2

This. Sell evans over smalling.

Can I ask why people still add Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne in that list? If we are looking for a new RB in the winter transfer window, can we go for better than that instead? Like I wrote before, I think United would better keep tags on Lukasz Piszczek. Older than Clyne, yes. However, a lot taller (1m84) than most full-backs out there.

And a lot not available.
