What ‘affordable striker’ will we buy in January?

We will go in for a £5m Wellbeck and give him an 18 month contract, it’s clear we need experience right now.

Could throw some serious money on Joe Biden.

He'll be available in January.

Might be able to get David a bit cheaper with him being out of contract in the summer?

We aren't signing a 30 year old Goretzka.

I'd doubt we will sign a striker unless Zirkzee leaves on loan.

Didn't realise that, having a good season as well. Can also play the attacking midfield role so would make a lot of sense.

Would probably need to offload one of the other options.

I'm not convinced we might need one until we know more about Amorin, my guess is he's going to use Rashford a lot there and go all in summer.

Stay the feck away from Leon Goretzka. Sign some central fecking midfielders who actually excel at passing a football.

My understanding is he's used a 9 like Hojlund (Gyokeres is better but they're not so different stylistically, Hojlund might be as good or close in 5 years, Gyokeres was struggling in the Champo at age 21) and a false 9 before, so I don't really see why he wouldn't spend this season evaluating Zirkzee too, and my guess would be we move Zirkzee in the summer back to Serie A and we sign a veteran/in their prime striker to compete with Hojlund.

None. An affordable striker isn't going to be any better than the guys we have. Go for a top 5 striker in the world or save the money 1-2 years and see if Rasmus/Z pan out.

Welbeck is the best suggestion IMO. Only if Brighton are going to reasonable about it, of course.

I don’t think we’ll go for one

Budget is gonna be tight af and there are more pressing matters (eg left back for sure and maybe cm given I don’t see how Casemiro or Eriksen suit the 5 man press)

My guess

Left back first priority
Cm second
Striker third and lowest priority

But how often have we signed 3 players in January? Very rarely

I doubt we will spend money in January unless we sell.

Jaysus, we love adding mediocre strikers who have no long term future here. Would be really pointless adding another Ighalo or Weighorst

It would be utterly moronic. Why are we wasting squad places on more mediocrity?

David or maybe Ferguson from Brighton and swap Zirkzee.

Well if he hadn't signed zirkzee , we could have signed Solanke . With the money for decent striker now and zirkzee money Solanke won't have cost us anything extra ...

Not really difficult to understand why he would be a shrewd signing

-Probably content with 3rd choice role
-Will score goals and make an impact when called upon
-Would cost almost nothing and reasonable wages
-He's a good player. Not really "mediocre" tbh

Was Joselu a moronic signing for Madrid? Or Choupo-Moting for Bayern?

No becuase their first choice strikers are good enough. Our first choice strikers are really squad player level. So we are adding stop gap squad options to be backup to squad player level players.

Like we didn't go looking for an interim, I hope we don't go looking for an affordable striker either. I think we need do 3 positions seriously whether it's January or the summer:

- A top striker
- A top midfielder who can carry and pass the ball
- A top quality LB/LWB

I don't want any compromises on those three. We need to make them a priority and get the best available player.

No point adding more rubbish to the pile we already have. We don’t have a striker problem we have a creativity problem. Sort out the attacking left and right side next to the main striker we will see a better team.

However if there is a new Lewandowski out there then get him. However I doubt that person is Johnathan “bloody” David for £20m.
