Westminster Politics

Streisand effect (?) or is it some other phenom that has occurred? Nevertheless, the blowback that the tory acolytes are getting is quite something. It's getting to everyone and people are sick to the back teeth of the double standards of this vile government.

Dominic Cummings says he "obviously" will not be quitting as the prime minister's chief adviser over claims he broke coronavirus lockdown rules.

We'll see about that you baldy looking weaste look-a-like.

That wasn’t a critique of your point of view btw, it was merely an observation of how low confidence is in the beeb right now.
It was fair, but sadly that's where the beeb is held now.

He could have spit in someone's mouth whilst walking around wearing a t shirt that says "IDGAF". They'd find a way to excuse it. The only way he leaves is if public polling suggests unanimously that he should go, and even then he'll still be whispering in Boris's ear for six months before being brought back into the fold on a news day where the attention is on another scandal/crisis.

Laura is getting briefed in Dom's ugly discovery.

This is him here

The most disturbing fact in all of this is that he's only 48 years old. He looks like something you'd pull out of a sarcophagus.

They must have had this follow up story in the ready to go before publishing the first - publish the first story get the bulls**t excuses then nail them with this. Big fan of that :D

My thoughts exactly. They ran with the first story, gave them all the rope they needed and timed this to perfection.

This is him here

Absolutely amazing that they were dumb enough to get suckered by the classic two-part story

They're working on a cunning plan to fob off the public.

Im expecting them to ignore this latest story and go with the “we have already addressed these allegations and will not be commenting any further as it’s distracting us from our important work staying alert, controlling the virus and protecting the nhs” approach.

Wouldn't put it past them. Cnuts.

It’s certainly interesting that we have yet to hear from anyone in or connected to the government yet and while every other journalist that has been discussing it over the last 24 hours has reflected on the latest news, Laura K has not been in any sort of rush to do the same.

I‘m going to make a solid bet that the time we hear from Laura next, will also be the time that the government has sorted out their line of messaging and is beginning to coordinate their response.

Why so incompetent in the lying? What possible rationale could there be in lying about the police having spoken to them and then doubling down?
They are all such amateurs in every sense.

This is excellent journalism:

There’s no need for gotchas on the day and fumbled answers, it‘s also incredibly difficult spin these direct questions.

Public-spirited professionals - police, scientists, healthcare workers etc - must be pretty pissed off at always being the government's scapegoats and whipping boys (and girls).

They're going for the Trump response, just claim it's fake news from the fake media. Somehow a worse response than I expected and my expectations were low.

No surprise they’re doubling down and sealing the bunker. feck all else to do once they decided to go down that route. I still cannot fathom why they did not just apologise and turn this purely into a ‘he will not be resigning’ matter. They’re on far stronger ground there than they are with ‘this did not break guidelines he just loves his kids unlike you miserable bastards’

He needs to be sacked. Not because he broke Lockdown, but because he got outwitted by the Mirror.

Him and half the cabinet. The fact no one even questioned him further to check if this was the only transgression is mildly amusing to me.
