I used to go & watch a Reading on a regular basis (brother in law & nephew had season tickets, I used to borrow one of those as it was only 15 mins up the road to Madejski).
One game against Millwall I was stood on the concourse outside the turnstiles when all of a sudden the Police in full riot kit cleared us all back just as a bus bringing Millwall fans from Reading station arrived. Soon as it came to a stop the driver jumped out and the Police formed a ring around the bus; driver must have radioed ahead because they had basically destroyed the bus, windows smashed, seats ripped apart etc.
They were all still in the bus giving it the big one at the Police, unfortunately for them the plod had a tactic ready...instead of the coppers getting on the bus, they got the biggest, nastiest looking pure black Alsatian Police dog I've ever seen, looked like it should have been guarding the gateway to Hades, and put it on to the bus. All of a sudden the Millwall fans are fighting each other trying to get out the windows etc to get away from the dog, it was hilarious.
After the match they refused to allow any use of buses by the Millwall fans; it was absolutely pissing down with rain, they surrounded them with horses & riot squad and made them all walk the couple of miles back to the station
Every time Millwall or Swindon came there was a really nasty atmosphere, there would permanently be a couple of Police video units with handheld cameras filming faces etc. whilst the supporters tried to cover up with bandanas & balaclavas.
