Wesley Sneijder

Guys.

Sneijder said he's happy to stay.
Inter said he's staying.
Fergie said we're not in for him.
Now the BBC apparently found out we were never in for him (that's what Nurse said).

What makes anyone think that this deal will happen, I don't know.

Thing is I like the idea of Anderson given a bigger role for us than last season. I think he is ready to make that step up and become one of our most important players in the centre.

On the other hand we are right and truly fecked if one or 2 of our currently available CM are going to get injured. We got Giggs who isnt the youngest anymore, Anderson who got injured quite a lot before, Park, Carrick and a Fletcher who is yet to regain his fitness. Maybe Gibson if he stays and probably one or 2 from our reserves, who probably won't be trusted for our big games.

So reinforcment would really be important imo.

Jesus, if people actually watch the Fergie interview rather than just reading the quotes (which themselves look pretty damning), they would see that we're definitely NOT in for Sneijder. It's unfortunate, but this clutching at straws is crazy.

Let it go, muppets. Live and let live. There are other prospects who we can still *** over.

There is something very strange about all this...

Almost all the Italian sources quoting United interest for Sneijder are basing their reports on reports published in the British media. Usually they would have some insider information closer to home...

Then we have Fergie, almost denying any interest from our part.

What we know for sure imo is that Inter must sell and it seems that they prefer to sell Sneijder (although they wont admit this for obvious reasons)

Perhaps lots of people are making 1+1 = 3....knowing United needs to strengthen the midfield. On the other hand I cannot see us paying 35m sterling for 27-year old.

Another scenario could be that United and Inter are negotiating about something else...Nani perhaps?

There's no way we would go into a season selling Nani and not buying anyone else though. We would be significantly weaker.

Every journo in the UK & Italy saying it will.

Or maybe we've not talked to Inter at all? And we've shown no interest in Sneijder and they've shown no interest in Nani?

People really can't expect any official comment from the club about another teams player, it's ridiculous. Until a deal is done Sir Alex or the club won't comment or confirm anything. Sadly that leaves us all hanging on for scrap of news from other sources, none of which we really know whether we can trust. Let's enjoy the banter in the thread if nothing else but we can't expect anything concrete one way or another.

One further point. It's established that Inter are happy to sell. If we really had no interest and no contact then I would think that Inter might make that clear as well as us. They want to find a buyer. I believe there is contact and talks and hopefully we'll find out soon.

Can y'all please keep all the nonsensical Twatter updates to the other thread.

This thread has become an enormous cluster-feck, which is probably not worth cleaning up but there's already an existing thread for the twitter drivel. Please use it.

Quoted so its not missed and much appreciated Pogue.

Fergie has planted that story in the BBC. Oh wait..

Youve just named six players that we have available for 2 positions. I know Park isn't a CM normally, but we could even add Cleverley and parhaps Phil Jones to that list too. Then there's a lot of very good players in the reserves and youth team.

It's not that crazy an idea that we will stick with what we have.

The goal.com guy:

Wayne Veysey
Just a question re. Fergie #Sneijder comments. How would #MUFC know Inter did not want to sell unless they had specifically asked?

Pretty sure Fergie says that he 'thinks' they aren't prepared to sell, not knows.

almost??????

Depends on how you want to take his interview.

He says there is absolutely nothing in it but, then says first of I don't think Inter want to sell him anyway. For arguments sake - wouldn't it be well firstly we aren't in for him and secondly I don't think Inter want to sell him?

SAF goes on to talk about not insulting another club or embarrassing a player - again for argument's sake you could take that as well even if we are in for him, we want to do things privately so as not to upset the club or player.

The BBC also said that we were in for him just a few days ago, they can't be right both times! Inter and Fergie would take that stance regardless of what was actually happening. The truth is there are probably about a dozen people in the world who know exactly what's going on, and they're unsurprisingly keeping their cards close to their chest.

We have no more clue of the veracity behind the reports that we're not in for him, than that of the reports that we are.

Erm, why people assume the Beeb guys asked for official comment? They might have their informal sources.

It's over, it ain't happening.

From an Inter board, re Trentino v Inter friendly:

Sneijder playing very frustrated. Same thing happened in the latest trainings when they played.

Sneijder subbed out? Left the pitch with anger, was my impression.

You're very desperate for everyone to drop it, aren't you? Often the severest critics of homosexuals are the biggest cocksmokers themselves.

:p

I said it before and I'll say it again I would fecking LOVE for Sneijder to come here, but I'm also realistic and not a total muppet. Don't you remember Benzema? Di Maria? Ozil? Nasri just last week? People here are fecking idiots who won't drop it. This rumour is dead in the water because everyone involved has denied it, yet WR8 continues to believe there is some great conspiracy.

Not crazy at all no. That was what I was trying to say.
Still important to get someone imo.
Even last year, when we still got Scholesy many (including me) were saying we could do with a class CM.

It's not only about lack in depth. It's also about the quality in the center.
We don't know how long Giggs will last. Park can do a job in the middle, and was really good there before, but I still like him more on the wing.
Anderson was very inconsistent last year. From damn good to pretty dissapointing. Fletcher played almost zero part.
Gibson...well is Gibson. He is a good option to have but I'm not sure he is United quality and probably leaving anyway. And we don't know whether the likes of Cleverly or Pogba will make it here. (I haven't seen enough of them to make a judgment).

Overall I'd say it's surely possible to start the new season with what we have in the centre. But still a bit risky imo.

This is what I mean't when I said twitter updates should mostly be posted only in the twitter thread. It just leads to clogging up of threads.

This shit is just as annoying as the desperation of transfer muppets to cling to the possibility of players coming to United, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Nothing is "over" until the transfer window closes. Stop stating your opinion as fact.

Basically, for the central midfield position we have:
- a 38-year-old converted winger
- an injury-prone Brazilian who flatters to deceive
- a guy wrecked by a virus he still hasn't recovered from, after months
- a 22-year-old youngster with a season of Premier League experience who spent most of his professional career playing on the flanks
- a 19-year-old centre-back
- a 30-year-old winger

Yes, it's very convincing. No need to sign anyone.

We're believing the same Howard Nurse who was backing a story by TransferUpdate some weeks back?!

I would say Inter denying the player is for sale. United denying Gill was in Milan and Ferguson telling the media there is no truth in the rumours is fairly decisive.

Plus Carrick.
