We're about to go on a title run, stop with the negativity

Villa Tomorow night hopefully plays in to our hands.
Anfield, I’ve never been so confident to go and beat them there, what a cracker that will be if we beat villa.
Definitely need to Sign players in January if we are to be up there come end of the
Season not an easy thing to do in January though.

We are contenders, one of 4 or 5 potential contenders. I like to look at our form and points tally since the resumption of football after the covid break last season.. i believe we were joint top with Man City on points won in that last part of the previous season.. (Bruno arrived) - that cant be ignored.
we had a very poor start to this season with 2 bad home defeats to palace and spurs - completely down to lack of a pre season and poor fitness due to our late europa semi final... yet once we got the fitness we climb up to second place with a game in hand.. potentially with a better pre season we would now be top.

despite the constant clamours for new signings our squad is actually looking very strong, look at the players on the bench and options.

Centre backs lack of pace are a concern but if Bailly can stay fit and find form and with axel waiting in the wings maybe less so.
A right winger and decent cover for AWB are higher priorities imo, then in summer a new DM to replace matic.
realistically i expect no signings this window.

Yes we are in the mix. I’m enjoying it and looking forward to games with far more excitement now than recent years.

It's looking good isn't it. Villa at home should be a win to keep the pace up.

I don't think we are in a title race purely because we concede far too many goals. At this point I think it's 1.53 a game which puts us on course to concede 58 goals which is 8 more than Liverpool in the Crystanbul season. All the winners post Fergie have conceded between 23 and 40. As crazy as it seems I think City will sneak in by mid Jan. Liverpool also concede at 1.25 which puts them on course to concede 47 but they've got a better defensive unit than we do (with Van Dijk to come back) so I expect that to dip.

Good points there mate but I’d expect our figures to improve after being weighed down by a bad start. Whether we will win the title is debatable, of course, but you’d have to say we are in a challenging position... at the moment. Agree, City will improve, as will Liverpool when VD returns - not sure when that is?

Copied and pasted from BBC website after the villa win. How is this guy still a pundit?

From Aston Villa's point of view, don't change.
They look a good side. It's a big result for Manchester United and you can see it.
It's massive celebrations. You'd think they had just won the Champions League!

No this isn't a wumming thread. Last season this squad showed their mettle through getting top 4. People overreact to a few games. We are about to show everyone who the feck we are.
We are fecking Manchester United and we are going to win the league this year and we will show everyone who we are vs Chelsea later today.
Ole has already shown that true great management spirit by dropping Green wood and Pogba for valid reasons. All you opposing fans get ready to really hate us again and all you "so called" United fans unhappy with management get ready to feel unhappy because we are about to be successful again.

I thought you were dead, Nostrodamus.

Weird.

Isn’t it January 12 yet?

January 12 guys. January 12 will be a glorious day! It should be. We’re not going to bottle this are we? Win against burnley and we’ll go top of the table! Can’t wait

Liverpool's dip in form is certainly allowing us to dream. But City are looking dangerous again. I feel we will be thereabouts but lack a proper RB and CB to mount a firm challenge this season. Martial needs to find some consistency too.

And if we somehow manage to win at Anfield we will be 6 points clear to them. That would be glorious.

Hope we can beat Burnley then end Liverpools home winning run.

It'll be between us, City and one other, and the other won't be Liverpool.
Still think Liverpool, and probably City again now too, will post a total above 85 that I struggle to see United matching. I expect those two sides to find some consistency and focus now there is a real title race.

I looked at the odds only a couple or so weeks ago and the odds were pretty decent for a Utd / City straight forecast to win the league. City / Utd was 28-1 with even better odds the other way around. Should have stuck a few quid on each then, but to be honest I'm not the most optimistic person about our title hopes. Well done to the OP though - not many were as optimistic as you when you started the thread.

The truth.

Spot on. The right wing in general is a concern, given that Greenwood is struggling a bit. City are now the favourites in my book, and I think among the bookmakers as well. The depth of their squad is incredible.

However, just the fact that we are challenging is great. Earlier in the season top four was looking like a real uphill battle.

Maybe we'll beat City and Liverpool in the course of the next two weeks, and prove we belong in that company. Or maybe Bruno will get injured tomorrow and set us on a 10-game losing streak, who knows. I've no idea what we are right now, but I'm loving the uncertainty, because we're either what I thought we were (which would be good enough, for now), or we're already something better than that.

Liverpool can´t be lucky all that time to keep Salah and Mane out of the injury list. Don´t wish injuries to anyone but they seriiously lack in depth and Jota is already out too. They had a freak of the run last year and they will be in it this year but it will be much tighter. I think City are more drilled team with more quality.

On the other hand we seem to be closer to find our best 11. With Bailly hopefully back and fit and Shaw getting into form with Bissaka getting more confidence, the back four looks really solid with Maguire obviously rocking at the moment.

Our midfield with Fred and Fernandes is probably best combo in the league in their positions, so we might want to keep Matic motivated and fresh, while Pogba is our extra creative outlet, who in his world class mode can shift the team to a higher gear when we need it.

Now Rashford haven´t hit the form for a while while providing good numbers so I think he´s about to go on a streak. Same goes for Martial. Cavani will be back and fresh in three games and we know what it means for him to be here. Super experienced striker to add balance and depth quality. On top of that Greenwood will be back again.

Then James, Mata and McT can fill in when we need them and hopefully not disappoint but all in all first 14-15 players looks real quality all of a sudden. Oh and forgot about Big Dave who seems on it as of late.

I never doubted this team I am always just a bit sceptical about our style of play under Ole which has some good patterns in attacking play and for instance we seem to know how to play from the back now, after all these years but still lacking in the defensive department in our pressing game which would add another dimension to our game and so needed consistency when things aren´t going well.

Perhaps my next post here might be negative again after we fail to impress but I will enjoy while it lasts in the next few weeks:-)

Must be a typo. I laid £100 on at 25/1 at roughly the same time. He might have meant 34s
Even thats good odds. Especially if we win our next two games. City still favourites on bet365, Liverpool second favourites.

Klopp questioning officiating over recent seasons, saying United "had more penalties in two years than I had in five-and-a-half years".

You know we are causing a stir when Klopp is doing a Keegan and the beinsports pundits (Andy Gray and another) slating us for how many penalties we got. If we win against Burnley (and those boys better win), we will be going to the Anfield game with less pressure, as Liverpool will go gung-ho to reduce the gap. I hope we can destroy them on the counter and set a marker for the rest of the cnuts playing us down since the beginning of the season...

So you expect Liverpool to get at least 53 out of remaining 62 points? Meaning they can either lose 3 games or draw 4 and have to win minimum 17 out of remaining 21. So basically you expect them to be one of the best PL teams ever for the remainder of season.

We're talking about a side that got 97 and 99 points in the last two seasons. While a sudden explosion of excellent for is by no means guaranteed, winning 17 out of 21 certainly isn't unfeasible for them either.

Liverpool about to go on a real tough run of fixtures, us, city, spurs, Leicester and Everton all coming up before the end of February (not necessarily in that order).

I don’t think anyone will break 80 points this season, we’re on a good run at the moment and if it can last until the Europa comes back, then we’ve got a real chance

Liverpool getting 85 points is clearly not infeasible. But its not easy either, and will require them to be much better than they've been so far.

To put this in perspective, their record over the whole of last season was 2.6 points per game. To get to 85 this year, they'll need to be at 2.48 for the rest of this season. To get 90, they'll need to be at 2.71.

So far this season, they've been 1.9. If that continues, they'll end up with 74 points.

You never know, but I'd say that if Liverpool does manage to get 85 points, they will have every reason to be very, very pleased with the remainder of the season. Probably more than you could realistically expect.
