Weird things about football that are true but don't sound it

Stockport County has the ground that is closer than any others to the river Mersey.

In our last 14 premier league games, there’s only been 1 game where both teams have scored. (Spurs 2-2).

I think City are the only team to have scored past us in a home league game when Casemiro has been on the pitch. He didn't play against Brighton or Liverpool. He came on against Arsenal after they'd scored. Palace scored after he was sent off and he was suspended against Leeds.

That's insane. I looked it up too, I think you're right.

I've looked on Google Earth and I think Tranmere might be closer

Update, no - Edgeley Park is about 1km and Prenton Park is about 2km, so not even close.

Its been 10 years since United last won the league. It doesn't really feel it does it? Back in 2014 if someone said its been a decade since Arsenal won the league you would've believed it. Somehow the time between 2004 and 2014 seemed longer than the time between 2013 and 2023.

I don't know, it feels like a long 10 years to me. Mostly because it feels like another 10 years is as likely again.

Juan Mata played 13 full seasons for Manchester United and Chelsea, and never won the premier league.

The season ends in 5 days and Manchester United can still mathematically finish 10th

I cannot believe I am writing that

The potential negative goal difference is the truly unbelievable reality.

Sorry if someone already posted this

Mark Hughes was still a professional player in 2002 and won the League Cup that year with Blackburn.

Man utd won a bigger trophy than last season, but yet somehow had a worse season than last season.

Arsenal have now gone 20 years without any major trophy other than the FA Cup.

Juan Sebastian Veron is a Sheffield United fan (kind of).

Wikipedia lists him as a fan of the club. Digged into it and his uncle Pedro Verde played 10 times for them in 1979 and Seba has expressed some affection for them in interviews.

They brought his uncle in alongside another Argentinian player, Alejandro Sabella after a scouting trip. The story goes that they actually agreed terms to sign Diego Maradona at first for £200k, but then the military junta demanded a further £150k and they pulled out. That's weird in itself if true, but lots of clubs have made similar claims about different players down the years. Dundee have claimed to have almost got Maradona too at the end of his career when they actually did have Claudio Caniggia on the books.

Enzo Maresca used to car share to training with Graham Potter when they played together at West Brom.

This season, newly promoted Bromley, are the only team in the football league, whose home ground is located in a Tory constituency

United won the league in 2010/2011. Almost flawless home record. A 2-2 draw with West Brom was the only match we failed to win (huge Van Der Sar blunder) we were 2-0 up.

Our away record that season was awful. We only won 5 away matches. 1 was a comfortable 4-0 win away to Wigan. The others were

Stoke 1-2 Man United

A crazy header from Hernandez, Tuncay incredible equalizer then a Hernandez late winner

West Brom 1-2 Man United
This was in January and Rooney's first open play goal for 8 months plus a Hernandez late winner.

Blackpool 2-3 Man United

Awful first half performance, 2-0 down, Rooney was taken off and another late winner, this time from Berbatov

West Ham 2-4 Man United

Again 2-0 down. 2 Noble penalties. Rooney was brilliant here, scored a hat-trick, swore at the camera, Giggs played the second half at left back. Hernandez scored another late goal.

That is ridiculous.

That was the season in which I started following football. Good times.
