In other threads my suggestion as titled has been the subject of amusement. So here is my thread to be revisited in the coming months. If I am wrong then you may change my username in september to idiotdick or something. If I am correct then I will take the tagline legend.
Yes they will also be 7 first team squad members. Players like Varela will not count.

With the tagline which you already have, I think it made sense to do a dare. Well played.

Can we just change it now for the hell of it?

First noodle rewriting the history in Giggs thread, now this, what the feck are you doing Caf.

Shaw, Kroos, Reus, Fabregas, Cavani, Carvalho, yes, but that's only six :confused::confused:

We've been linked to Messi two weeks ago, he puked before his last match, when he burped and you played that sound backwards, you could hear 'United'.

It's on.

We've signed Varane? Well, that's a great start! Maybe you're onto a winner with this 'seven players at least' schtick. :wenger:

I think had Moyes stayed he would have looked to let 7 go and signed 3 or 4 going in to next season with a more compact squad with the benefit of no Europe.

Now I think we will go largely unchanged but for obvious departures and a few coming in.

Are you SolidState in disguise?

From the Van Gaal transfer history:

Again you are not considering outgoings that need replacing. Im not saying It will be 7 messis, but at least 7 players
I don't think 7 players in 1 window is going to happen. Fair enough there will be players leaving but they won't all need to be replaced within this window.

We NEED 2 CM's and 1 LB in order to have a team strong enough to compete for the title (based on us not having Europa, the squad size/depth should be fine)

Ideally it would be nice to buy another warrior CB to replace Vidic (though Jones/Evans/Smalling/potentially Rio should be enough with fewer games next season.) If we continue to play on the wings, a new winger would be nice (Reus ), I wouldn't like to see one or two of Young/Nani/Valencia starting most games (Nani because he can be inconsistent as feck.) Obviously if a striker leaves it would be nice to bring in another but we already have a lot of attacking players and having less out and out strikers may be a good thing if we continue to use Mata/Kagawa as a #10. I think a new RB would be ideal with us potentially losing 2 CB's, our go to back-ups for Rafael in Jones/Smalling will be needed as CB's next season. Again though, we would live without this signing, especially if we sign a new CB.

I don't think we will sign more than 4/5 players in the summer (forgetting about youngsters for the future like Powell etc)

I'd put the number of immediate first teamers at 4: 1 LB, 2CMs and a winger.

Backup RB, backup/rotation CB (because Jones/Smalling are always injured) and if the rumours about Cavani are true, that would make 7 incoming signings.

Anderson, Ferdinand, Vidic, Cleverley, Young/Valencia, Buttner, Nani, Hernandez.

Bring in two midfielders to replace Anderson and Cleverley.
A defender to replace Vidic+Ferdinand.
A left back to replace Buttner.
A winger to replace Young/Valencia and Nani.

I'll be astonished to see us sign more than 5 if I'm honest.

Not really Van Gaal's style to go out on a crazy shopping spree, is it?

Still, unless he really is a genius he'll need to buy some players. A couple of midfielders and a left back at the very least. Maybe he can convert Fellaini into a decent CB?

I think he's right. If you look at the personnel that's leaving this summer and has done so during the season it's not more than right to bring in a couple of new players.

Vidic is a done deal, Evra is not looking like staying, Anderson left, Fellaini could be leaving, Giggs might end his player career, one of RvP Hernandez could be leaving, Nani could be leaving, Buttner could be leaving, Fletchers condition is still unknown. Of course any player could be leaving; I just feel these are more likely to happen than Carrick for example.

We will sign a maximum of 5 and that is if Young, Cleverley and Nani are sold. You need £20-35m to buy talented players these days and 7 would cost over £190-210m and that's without adding any agent fees and sign-on bonuses.

It will most likely be a left back, a right back, 2 central midfielder and a CB. We're very short in some of these positions even in terms of numbers so it's a given.

If he manages to do that, he'll be a god in my eyes.

Even with departures, why do we need 7 players??

Not sure if we will sign 7 players, but I think we need 5 or 6.

Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs, Anderson, Nani will more than likely leave. There are clear question marks over Valencia, Young, Cleverley, and Hernandez also. That's 6 leaving, could be upped to 8, maybe 9 (and it's needed)

I personally think we need:
1 LB
1, but would rather get 2 CBs. I don't think Smalling and Jones are as good as people think on here. They may come good in time, but they are not that good yet, and time is ticking
2 CM
1 WG

I'm not taking transfer predictions from anyone that confuses varane with varela.

7? Okay. Just remind you that there is a world cup. I will give a huge credit to Woodward if he could seal the deal with 7 players in the summer.

Anyway I don't think we need that much.
A new right back, a new left back, a centre midfield, a winger. Even if we are willing put more it's probably a centre back or even another centre midfield.

If we look at our squad. For example if Van Gaal takes in charge. He prefers 433 right. So

-------------DDG/Lindegaard-------------------
Rafael/RB - Smalling/Jones - Evans/Rio/Keane - LB/Buttner
Carrick/Cleverley/Fletcher - New Midfield/Fellaini
--------------Mata/Kagawa-----------------
Rooney/Winger - RVP/Wilson - Welbeck/Januzaj

I can't see minimum 7 first team squad players signing are necessary.

If van gaal is appointed I certainly would not be shocked to see several young players given an opportunity before he looks outside the club as he has such a reputation for giving young players a go
keane or thorpe could become 4th cb
varela or blackett might get a shot at fb
Lingard or powell might come into the squad
keane or henriquez as well up top... possibly even macheda with 10 in 16... even wilson could get a go?
So whilst we might need anywhere between five and ten new players it is perfectly plausable that half of them come through the ranks

In a perfect world:
1 CB
1 LB
2/3 midfielders
1 Winger

Realistically I have no idea but midfielders will be the priority - Actually this time.

The muppets are slowly appearing it seems, it must be spring time.

There is no way we are signing 7 players. Unless you are including any youngsters and teens which I hardly think count. We'll want to avoid signing a ton of players in one summer after what Spurs went through and I also doubt the club takes such a bleak view of our squad as some caf members do. We'll definitely buy a midfielder, a centre back and a left back. That's three players. Beyond that we could do with a RB, another CB maybe a winger but that only goes up to six. However if Van Gaal comes in he'll look to promote our youth players which opens the door to the likes Powell, Keane, Lingard and Varela to fill those gaps.

Think we are going to buy two CMs.
