I watched alot of Derby this season and they were excellent all things considered. They would have been mid table if not for a 21 point deduction and no transfers.
They had journeymen and kids and always tried to play football instead of a hoofing scrap.
I think he'll be in the mix to take over for the first Premier League manager that's sacked this season.

If only the FA could do their job properly a manager wouldn't have to go above and beyond to pay the staffs wages.

So it sounds like to most people here it's fine with off the books money doping when it's from a beloved character to a Championship club, but not when it's City doing similar things.

Or, Derby had players on their books already and the financial situation deepened to the point whereby players were going to stop being paid so Rooney put his hand in his own pocket to make sure they did?

Seems there is talk of Rooney coming to manage DC United. As a DC United supporter, I really hope Wayne doesn't do it. DC United is where dreams go to die. They have cheap owners who don't care about the game. Unless the job include a massive amount of money to invest in both the team and the stadium, he should stay far away.

It's really a mystery. They still had him for 2.5 more years at 3.5 million a year which makes me think he knew how shit we were (which really makes me question the probability of him coming back). There was certainly an energy he brought to the team (and to DC United in general) but he deserves far more than what he will get here under this ownership group. Granted, he was at Derby so maybe we look like a dream job.

He mentioned early on that he liked DC because he could still have some anonymity (as could his family). I imagine he has to get out of England for that.

I remember watching his documentary and seeing him driving around Derby thinking 'this guy could be anywhere in the world and still never worry about money ever again and he's in Derby'

Strange one, he seemed like a promising manager and keen to step up. You’d think he’s signing his career away by going to the US now.
If he has genuine aspirations of becoming a PL manager, why would he make such a move whilst his managerial name has pull and gravitas?
No matter what he does as a manager out there, it'll not boost his CV over here.
It is a baffling move unless he wants some time out of the UK and is focusing more on that and his family than his professional career.
