'Wayne Rooney is a sacrificial lamb and I hate it'

Exactly how have the club or Mourinho disrespected him in any possible way? I don't think they could have handled the situation any better than they've been doing, and in fairness Rooney's camp have been quiet and respectful on the matter too.

He wont have to play 90 mins, he will score a few, ans assist as well, in first 20 minutes, and off he goes to sit in his own stand.

but of course

Why sit in his stand and not on the bench with his teammates ? We may need his support from the bench as what Rooney is doing. :D

Somewhere Wayne Rooneys agent is sitting with a football manager / prospective buyer showing them highlight reels of Wayne's ability as a footballer while the manager thinks to himself, "I thought United were sponsored by Chevrolet and Adidas, not Nike and AIG..."

One of the (many) upsides to Rooney leaving in the summer will be not hearing the endless shit his mates in the media come out with.

Please bring Cantona back its a shame he's being treated like this given all he has done for Utd..

Feck off Ray.. Rooney hasn't done shit for us for almost 4 years now..

It's cringeworthy hearing this constant defence of Rooney, and the supposed 'outrage' of the footballing world at his exclusion. Players should be picked on form, not past glories, a sentiment that has been echoed by the same pundits who whinge about this topic every week. (As well as just about anyone who knows the basics of how football/team play work).

It's just sycophancy of the British media who hype us up and believe England are the greatest football nation on Earth. They were saying the same of Gerrard and Terry when it was soooo obvious they were past it: "how dare the club do this, disgusting treatment", you'd think they were sent to Guantanamo Bay!

Wilkins and co... Wind ya neck in lads

It's a bizarre story, Wilkins isn't pro United generally, he's a Chelsea man through and through.

He's obviously trolling us or he's thinking it's a win-win for Chelsea making those statements or both. Either we do end up playing a player that is no longer good enough or he's increasing the pressure on Mourinho and pitting some fans against each other and the manager.

If he likes Rooney so much, he can have him at Chelsea for 300k pw. He should put some pressure on his club to sign him as a replacement for Costa perhaps?

I am so pleased that Mourinho has faced the facts that have been ongoing since Fergie wanted Rooney out in his last season and there is no player bigger than the club. United will continue after Rooney and you could also see the same attitude from Mourinho when asked about Zlatan being here next season and he replied, I´m just thinking about Man Utd. Sadly Rooney is just not the same player he was and for sure his stats say it all.

We should play Sir Bobby while we're at it. He used to be a good player aswell .

Wilkins is hands down the worst football commentator I have ever heard.

can someone ask wilkins if he also wants him back in the England team, see if his stance changes. it was harmless to the media when he was shit for united, but after the euros people quickly realised he's fecking up the national team aswell

Bobby Charlton is one of United and England's greatest ever players, he's a bloody knight and has won the World Cup which is far more than anyone else in the squad! Let's show him a bit of respect and chuck him in, he's wasted sitting on the board. Bloody Mourinho chairing a bloody certified legend. Outrageous.

Wilkins better focus on praising Rashford for carrying the whole team at the moment.

The obnoxious Rooney conspiratorial hysteria over a player being simply unfit to play football is just another distraction from clear positives that's happening at the club right now. Even Fellaini earning more trust as we speak than Wayne ffs.

It's crazy isn't it, same age as Young and Valencia, both of whom look like infinitely better athletes.

The thing about Rooney though, If you can remember at one point this season he went through a couple of games where it seemed the fire was back, he was challenging for everything and looked like he did when he was 25. After he got plaudits for it he went back to the slow, lethargic Rooney we have known for the last 2 years. That made me think that all this time it was just his attitude and hunger \ desire had gone.

The witch hunt against anyone who dares to marginalise Rooney - despite his complete and utter lack of contribution for a couple of years now, while earning almost 300k a week - is mind blowing.

If Rooney was Italian, the entire British media would've crucified him on a daily basis since about 2014.

On Talksport this morning he was saying that he didn't think Rashford can be a 20 goal a season man.

Maybe Wayne reminds Ray of himself, in his United days?

Why is not picking him being "disrespectful"?

Id say holding the club to ransom - twice
Shagging prostitutes
Coming back each pre season unfit
Responding to a question with "ive nothing to prove"
Swearing at the camera

All of which are disrespectful....but not picking a team based on today's qualities, not five years ago.

I watched the game yesterday and I was dreading to see him coming on the pitch. He was a great player. He really was. But now he is clumsy, unfit and can do a reckless thing now and then which we did not need going in to extra time. Thank god Jose got sense and turned to Martial instead.

Nothing to do with hate. I just don't think that he's good enough to be in the squad (sadly, I'm afraid that this is not going to change). Great to see Jose getting this and not insist on using him.

So at the end of the day - nothing to do with hate. Not by me anyway.

I thought last night was a fairly significant moment in Rooney's United career. I think we all know he's on the wane (sorry), and very likely to leave come the summer, but he was effectively told last night that he's less trusted than a 20 year old kid. One who is out of form, lacking confidence and isn't particularly doing it for the manager as it is. We needed to score a goal and Mourinho didn't think Rooney was up to scoring it.

It's not remotely disrespectful, mind you. Moreso the reality of the his newfound position. What Wilkins is saying has nothing to do with his lack of game time. It's just a strange rant.

Rooney does work a lot for his teammates, that has always been the case. He does deserve a few games here and there but honestly right now we've too many crucial games coming up to risk our subs not coming on to make an impact.

Although I am quite concerned. It seems like half of these pundits don't actually watch the players they make these statements about PLAY.

Yeah, agreed. I think that's him finished at United. Will be tempting for Mourinho to play him against Burnley after Rashford ran himself into the ground last night but wouldn't be surprised at all if he doesn't feature again.

Why?

Because he is a club legend, he hasn't moaned about his limited game time and he does actually work reasonably hard when he does play.

United are not a charity. Although paying poor old Wayne 300k per week while he offers next to nothing, I can see why you'd think so.

We have plenty of players in attacking positions who are currently better and deserve the minutes more. It's simple as that.
