'Wayne Rooney is a sacrificial lamb and I hate it'

One could argue that we've been virtually unbeaten since Rooney was phased out, our attacking play isn't great but it hasn't improved that much when Rooney has played. He's free kick at Stoke was vital though and since he's broken the record there isn't much need for him to play. Zlatan is a better goal scorer and assisting others, Rashford has more pace and skill, Miki and Mata posses more technical ability.

Yet again the defence of Rooney is to tell us all how good he used to be be.

That's all they've got.
This

"He has been so good for Manchester United..."

"What he has done over his career..."

"England and Man Utd topscorer..."

"This guy has been a phenomenal footballer..."

All true, none of that has anything to do with whether he should play at the moment.
And this.

Doesnt improve at all, it gets worse.

Former Manchester United man Ray Wilkins has slammed the club's treatment of captain Wayne Rooney and likened the England striker to a 'sacrificial lamb.'

Rooney has been absent from the United starting XI in recent weeks, and was snubbed again by boss Jose Mourinho during the Red Devils' recent Europa league victory over Anderlecht, and had to settle for a place on the bench.

'He has been so good for Manchester United and so good for English football that I think he needs that little bit of respect and be thrown back in again,' Wilkins said during an interview withtalkSPORT.

'What he has done over his career, he's sacrificed himself too much for me. He runs all over the field – he defends, he attacks, he sets up goals, he scores goals.

'Let's not forget he's England's top goalscorer and he's Manchester United's top goalscorer. This guy has been a phenomenal footballer, give him some respect.

'He's 31 years of age. When Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) plays, at 35, he plays in and around his space. He doesn't go charging all over the field and helping his teammates out. Rooney does. Rooney is a sacrificial lamb, as far as I am concerned, and I hate it.'

I totally agree Ray. I totally agree.

He's an idiot.

I listened to the show and he also said that we cannot out defend City, so we will need to outscore them in next weeks game. This is the City who have conceded nearly 50% more goals than us in the league.
No. What I think he meant was that we couldn't hope to keep a clean sheet against them so we need to score a couple of goals.

What is going on with Rooney anyway? Is he injured?

The Watford game was his Waterloo. Truly horrendous performance.

was thinking last night, as poor as Zlatan was....it still didn't come close to Watford

think after Watford Jose had a go at Shaw as well and Rooney was spared

Christ, you'd think we were bringing Rooney onto the pitch and getting the fans to continuously boo him while throwing objects at him, the way Wilkins talks. He's gotten plenty of respect here...now he's being phased out because he's really not that good anymore, which is fair enough.

ive missed these rooney stories, they are now entertaining
Yes. They weren't under the "my captain shall always play" regime. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me every time I heard that phrase from LVG.

Ray Wilkins is as bad as Paul Parker when it comes to talking utter gibberish about Man Utd. Rooney has for the most part been a tumescent overfed lump for the past couple of seasons and we've had to put up him only getting game time so that he can break the record. Now that it's been broken he has put his feet up and is mulling over what retirement league to go to next. He's been an amazing player for us but his powers faded badly by the time Van Gaal arrived and it will be good to see him move on at the end of the season.

I highly regard my ability to take off the red tinted specs and look at our situation objectively. I would be the first to question anything that the club, the manager or the players do that I feel is not in the club's best interests.

Having said that I cannot see any grounds for complaint from anybody in relation to the way Wayne's situation has been handled. Wilkins is taking the usual approach to Wayne that the English football gentry always have.

Remember the reaction to the picture of Wayne in his FA issued England gear drunk as a fart crashing a wedding party. It was called a "disgrace" not because this was the man captaining the England side in this state while on International duty but because these people had disgracefully photographed him in that state..

Rooney lacks the brains to adapt to his new situation. Hence why he's finished at age 31

Dont get why we also dont play Sir Bobby Charlton. Look at his records, second in goals and appearances for united, second in goals for England, and hes also won a World Cup with England.
Hes been so good for United and England so might as well play him up top now that Zlatan is injured.

Too old and his fitness will be a problem. Can you ensure he'll be able to play 90 minutes ?

He deserves respect so let's throw him back onto the pitch irrespective of his form.

How do those fecking morons look into mirror every day is beyond me.

Go build a Rooney FC you cnuts and play for him with him. There's enough of those weirdos who'd sign up for this shit.

On that basis, I really think Sir Bobby has been far too much overlooked for the past 45 years. Do you know what he did for the club? I think it's shocking, and shows a complete lack of respect, that he hasn't got any game time this season

Sign of the times when Rooney is still every English pundits hero

Are they all retarded or is there something they're smoking.

Can they really not see how bad he's been? :wenger:

He should get his team Chelsea to sign him.
