Jose really handled this so well. And has treated Rooney with great respect without being overly sentimental.

But you also have to give credit to Rooney for the way he has behaved this season. John Terry and Stevie Me have shown that this is not always the case with departing stars.

All the best at Everton (Not against United).wouldnt be so bad if he won them a trophy after all these years. Maybe even this one again.

So disappointed that the 10th minute came and went without incident. We're a classless shower of pricks, no doubt.

Always loved him and hope he realises that a massive portion of United fans feel the same. He gets a lot of support from the matchgoing fans which is great to see I suppose.

The man is a club legend whether you like it or not. United's and England's highest goalscorer and a massive achiever in the game.

the screening i went to broke into his chant when he came on. Amazing player. Never going to have another like him. Box to Box Centre Forward

I've been incredibly scathing of him for quite a while now. But if today is to be the last time we see him a Utd shirt, thanks for the memories Wayne. So many crucial goals and match winning performance over the years. Commands a lot of respect, despite his quite dramatic decline and contract shenanigans.

Handled well. With the season over, I can say thank you for everything Rooney.
Good luck at your next club (unless you face united)

He will never find a more suitable time to leave, got top goal scorer of the club history and completed all set of trophies with us, with him lifting a trophy in the final match.

No reason or motivation to continue any further.

If he leaves I will thank him for everything. He was one of my favorite players at some time.

WHAT A MAN!!!!! :drool::drool::drool:

Chuffed for him. Whatever happens next season he can be proud of his contribution to our club and the medals and accolades that come with it. Won't be the disaster that some people are desperate to make out if he stays on next year in the same role. Definitely provided a healthy amount of important and telling contributions over the season with reduced minutes.

You are absolutely right, he has been very classy and respectful about this season.

He's. Off.
He still has hopes of getting back into the England squad.
The hacks have said he's been left out of the latest squad.
At this point, I think he's just looking for where to go.

He seemed to chase every ball in his few minutes on the pitch like a rabid dog! He was well up for it!

If the last thing he does for United is lift a trophy, it will be very fitting and sum up his time here. I wish him all the best for next season

Is he officially off though? The presenter seems sure and even announce it as his last game.

We all thought this COULD be his last, but his last game?

Do they know something we dont?
I think his people have been briefing behind the scenes that he's likely off.
I also think part of it is that he hasn't found somewhere suitable to go.

It was a nice ending (assuming it is). Short cameo and lifts the trophy.

Intrigued to see what he'll do or where he'll go. I know people think it's disrespectful to say but I genuinely don't see how a club like Everton (pish as they are) will be looking to take him given his current level.

Has been one of my favourite Utd players but now is the time to go.

A club great and should be remembered as such.

He's won everything and leaves as our record goal-scorer. Amazing achievement and he was an amazing player for us for a decade.

His decline in form over the last couple of years isn't his fault. He's obviously more frustrated than we are that he's not the player he once was. It's a pity though, because he was a cracking player.

The messy contract stuff still leave a little sour taste for me though. Watching him play for United since I was in my late teens and seeing him become our record scorer and win everything there is to win means he should go down as one of my favourite ever United players. But he just won't.

Got a good response from the fans, but he should take it as a hint we all want him to go on good terms.

If it was confirmed he was staying next year, I doubt he'd have been cheered to the rafters.

Do the dignified thing and leave on a high Wayne.

He dropped more than double that in couple of hours in the casino a few weeks back. Forgive me if I'm not easily impressed.

Ditto. Always a PR angle to these kind of things isn't there.

That's if you believe The Sun, which you both seem to - says a lot in itself. You'll do well to find a public casino in the UK that takes bets as big as they were reporting.

Even if he did, it's no different to your normal guy on the street blowing a weeks wages in the casino, but then still finding it within them to donate that same amount to a worthy cause.

It's pretty sad how desperate you are to paint such an act in a bad light.

Except the guy in the street needs that money to live.....

If he wanted to donate, do it privately.

There is no way he comes out of this unscathed, right? It's his money and he has donated it. Why begrudge him some positive press in return?

The Sun reported £500,000, Ian Ladyman did an article on it shortly after and contacted the Rooney camp who claimed it was "half that". It's not about painting him in a bad light, it's just that the two events happened closely to one another and I find it hard to praise someone who can sink £250,000 in a couple of hours in a casino one week and then donate £100,000 for such a tragic event the next. It's also worth noting that the donation came from his foundation which is sponsored by BT among other companies and receives money from fund raising and public donations as well as through events like his testimonial. Forgive me for being cynical buy I've always been of the view that "the right hand should not know what the left hand is doing".

I hope you can find happiness in your lives.

Harsh on him that, he may be finished but are we really saying Defoe and Vardy have been in better goal scoring form than Rooney over the last month?

For him to be left out of the squad completely is a bit harsh imo

Why pick just a month? Its not harsh at all, Rooney has had a stinker of a season he doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the squad.

Anyway came to say well done to Rooney. Don't care if he's done it publicly, it encourage others to do so.

Harsh?, he's not even MLS standard anymore.

Jeez, deluded or what

For me it's very unlikely he'll be back unless England are ravaged by injuries. That's how far he's fallen. It's his general play that has fallen more than anything and in Kane they have their proper goalscorer already. Aside from experience I don't see what he offers.

It's not harsh at all, I doubt even Rooney himself believed with all sincerity that he would get the call up. His standard has dropped so low that he is barely bottom level Premiership standard, sadly.

You really like to keep track of his comings and goings it seems.

PR is probably part of it no doubt but still he didn't have to give feck all and yet he did. Whatever the intentions behind a donation are, it will still go towards helping families who have lost loved ones in a terrorist attack.

So with that in mind who gives a feck what Rooney spent in a casino last month.

That was a fitting end, Rooney coming on to a heroes welcome and lifting a trophy, just like he's done for us so many years in the past.

There is no room for sentiment in football though, we need to move onto better things. Fergie made the same mistake with Giggs + Scholes for a tiny bit too long.

I hope he can go somewhere where he can play regularly and finish his career on his terms.

Nice gesture Jose, giving Rooney few minutes playing at the finale.

:D Special rating ~ 7/10 for that good slide tackle, protecting Herrera and his presence alone livened up the boring final atmosphere.

He doesn't moan this season, and continue to work hard as he now could.

Respect, and thank you.

True, but he didn't have to donate anything at all.

Where are all the other players and celebrities coming forward with donations? It's classy from Rooney regardless of how any of us feel about him.

Also liked that his last touch of a football in a United shirt may have been tracking back to help his fullback and putting in a crunching tackle.

Predictable sniping from some quarters over his donation to the victims' fund. There is some PR benefit to him no doubt but the publicity around his donation also raises the profile of this fund. Plus, putting cynicism aside, it's not hard to see how this particular atrocity would have affected him personally as someone from and living in the North West with young children.
