This stream said Rooney's the main man then demonstrated that by showing him watch Martial nutmeg a defender and Rooney moving away from the space to give him space to run into, then zooming into his kneesy finish.

I want him to break the record with a winner against Liverpool. The celebrations would be epic.

 Fair play for the record but feck me, also one of the worst misses of the season.

In all seriousness he's been involved with the best exchanges in the match. One touch passing he hasn't displayed in two odd years.

I'm sure this gets trotted out every time he has a decent game. It can't always be his best game for two years

Yeah I'm the one who's blinkered Mr White Pele.

So this has been the only game his touch has been this good in two years?

Edit: also didn't call you blinkered. It's just people seem to forget so easily any good games he does have.

Good game from him. I do like squad player Rooney more than main man Rooney. He's a pretty good squad player.

Some of his touches today were pretty good and he hasn't been slowing down our play at all for a few months now. Not everything he tries comes off, but his attitude has been much better under Jose. Long may it continue.

So pleased for him, he looked like a big weight was off his shoulders. Hopefully he can score a few more and get to 260 before he's eventually moved on.

I'm not calling for him to start games. When he does play, this should be his position. He's been very threatening all day and capped it with the goal and assist.

He wasn't playing up top anyway, he is shite up top always. Also, just month ago you were saying he should start on the left.

He's been absolutely magnificent. Right from the great first touch to the goal to the lovely linkup play and the brilliant balls to Rashford and Martial. He should always play up top when he does play.
Thats where Jose said he will play.

But that would mean limited chances, especially with Zlatan at the club.

Anyhow, congratulations to him today. Not his biggest fan, but he's been a very good player for us over the years.

Pleased for Rooney. 8/10 . Got his goal and assisted Martial. He looks sharper than ever. Let's just hope that the record breaking goal will be something spectacular and not the 'shin-poke' type finish that we saw today

Back to "he's a brilliant player" crap.

An absolute dead weight for 3 years. Thats reality.

Well if we have more piss easy games like these then no problem

Whatever games he plays. I'm sure there won't be many starts outside of the cup games.

Yup he's looked today not dropping down. Really felt he was playing too defensive vs WBA but today he was quality. A lot of really good balls and he does link up well with these guys

This was better than his performances on the left also. He played with a lot of freedom so when he does play games I hope this is the postion.

Good game. He's put in more good performances this year than he probably managed in Van Gaal's entire time here. Hopefully Mourinho's management of him continues to bring out the best he still has left to offer.

Why is so hard just to appreciate a good performance? No one is calling for him to start playing important games or calling him "brilliant" again. He had a super game today and that's about it. The sort of toxicity in this thread is really sad.

A goal that he shinned in by all acounts?

Good performance at home to Reading, even you dont love him that much?

Played well today, I just hope this isn't because we've found his level. Need some more games like this against top opposition.

Yup.
Was voted best goal as part of PL celebrating 20 year anniversary
Oh right. I was about to say how on earth is that decided. Not sure I agree but still, the rest of the records speak for themselves.

It's a good performance irrespective of who the opposition. Just because its a rubbish team, does it mean he played badly? He's not going to start any league games and fair enough, he's not good enough to get in the team but I just don't understand why it's hard to accept that he had a super game today.

That's his best position, second striker, a position that isn't really suited to our first eleven formation. He's a fine squad player and has dealt well with being dropped.
Fantastic record and I'm pleased he finally got it. Won't forget how good he was in his heyday.

But I hope this performance doesn't mean he will be shoehorned into one of the wide forward positions.
