Was that FA Cup win more satisfying than some of our titles?

There has been so many special titles that for me this FA Cup is way down the list. Our 20th league title was pretty amazing. After loosing the league on goal difference the season before, getting RVP and crushing was a fantastic season. Rooney and RVP worked so well together that season.

And our 06/07 season. After Chelsea dominated the last 2 season spending crazy money our team was finally ready to compete again. It was a fantastic season and it felt so great to win the league. Showing that SAF is the greatest manager of all time.

And of course 99. What's left to say about that. First treble. With so many youth players in the squad. That's what makes me think that our trebble was a million times more important then City's. I also think that's why no one cares what city do. They won the trebble last year and this year 4 in a row. But no one cares. It's just indifference. Cause it's all artificial. It's all bought.

Cup final wins are often a bigger buzz than league titles, even though they're "not as important".

My favourite moment as a United fan was Cantona's winner in 96 against the Scouse.

And some of our league titles were fairly routine, where we had them won from a long way out. A feeling of quiet satisfaction rather than the first-pumping joy of winning a one-off final.

The spice boys and their white suits. Two years before one of my favourite moments was the Hughes goal in the semi final against Oldham

Ten Hag truly has made us a mid table team.
This.

It was a cup , but we laughed when Arsenal won it around 2017/2018.
It was a bad season, the team finished 8th , had 14 losses in the league.. out of europe.. so let's not lap it up like it was the treble ..
Let's focus for next season..

The very same final. I remember Fergie recounting speaking to Roy Evans and Ronnie Moran before the game, both dressed in conservative black suits and white shirts, being absolutely mortified at the suits the players were wearing!

That is why Evans never made it as a top manager, he was too nice. Fergie would have never have let the team on the bus in that get up!

Good grief. What a car crash of an OP. How small time have we become that denying City an FA cup is better than winning the title. No wonder we’ve slipped into such terminal mediocrity if this is the mindset of some of our fans.

From hearing some of our fans you'd think we're plucky little Osasuna, just happy to be there and make up the numbers

Definitely the best moment of the post fergie era. Serious cup win against a big team. The other 4 post Sir Alex cup wins were against crystal palace, Southampton, Ajax and Newcastle, and 3 of those were the lower tier "Mickey mouse trophies" (still good to win, but not a big deal for a big club). FA Cup is a serious trophy, and we had to beat the current treble holders to do it.

Eh... Compared to FA Cup? I am afraid no comparison here. It's silly.
We had to beat St-Etienne, Rostov, Anderlecht, Anderlecht, Celta Vigo and Ajax to win the EL. None of them were half as good as the Liverpool side we had to beat this year, let alone City.

And totally ignored other teams that competed in the Europa League? Ask any other football fans around Europe, FA Cup or Europa League? The answer is obvious. During SAF time, we used to call this Mickey Mouse Cup or something. It was a distraction to our pursuit of CL and PL. The game in FA and Carling Cup was always heavily rotated with young players.

In addition, winning EL gets you CL. Winning FA Cup gets you EL.

Sorry but this is nonsense. Unless we were playing a Non League (horrendous flashbacks to Exeter/Burton Albion) side, Fergie always played a fairly strong team in the FA Cup.

League Cup was very different but the FA Cup was always regarded as an important competition.

Where has this bs narrative come from? At no point did United or fans say the FA cup was a Mickey Mouse cup, not that I remember. The league cup sure, I would love to see the evidence for the fa cup being treated badly in general. I randomly took a stab at the 2004-05 season for no good reason, in the third round against Exeter sure we played with a weaker team, still having a strong bench. However in the replay we had a strong team, and in the fourth round we played a very strong side, same for the fifth. Its possible I caught lucky with 2004-05.

Apologies if my memory fails me, maybe not exactly Mickey Mouse, but I remember FA Cup was always not the priority. We focus on the CL and PL. The FA Cup was always play with so called "weaker" team to rotate and keep the team fresh.

Unless, it was Semi-final or final.

Looked at seasons from 2003-2008 for the fourth round and they mostly look like strong teams to me

2003:
Carroll, Gary Neville, Ferdinand, Blanc, Silvestre (Brown 82), Beckham, Keane (Stewart 45), Phil Neville, Richardson (Scholes 59), van Nistelrooy, Giggs.

2008:
Van der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson (Scholes 72), Park, Rooney (Saha 71), Nani.

so went back to 98 for later bias

Unless as stated were playing low league teams (like Exeter), it was rare we played a weak side.

No.

You aren't some plucky underdog, who won against all odds Vs a big team.

It was a great win against a great team but you're the biggest, most successful team in the country. This doesn't make your top 5 achievements.
It wouldn’t have to in order to fit the OP’s criteria. We’ve won 20 titles, so technically it probably wouldn’t even need to feature in the top 25 achievements to be ahead of some of our league titles, assuming that you’d put the three European cups and Rotterdam in there above some of the titles.

I doubt anyone would swap any of our league titles for that win, but as a one off feeling, it’s probably a bigger high than the slow grind of a title, which were usually won with a bit of a buffer.

The "OPs criteria" and the thread title were edited after my and a few others reply. The original OP asked if it was one of your greatest ever achievements as a club, that's what I was saying no to.

Ah sorry, late to the party here  Yeah bit over the top that.

One of the best for me my lad is 11 and he was absolutely buzzing. Got to give his mates some grief after being the one that normally has to take it on the chin. I've seen united win the lot but that was up there for me. Loved every second of it.

It was possibly more satisfying than the Caraboa cup win last year, because of who it was against and it evened up for last years FA cup defeat, e.g. in terms of 'all Manchester finals' its now 1-1 ....and the fact we deserved the victory.
However, overall just another piece of silverware, they are all great.

If we’d have won last years FA cup, that would have been more satisfying to stop them doing the treble.
