I don't actually think it would be much of a problem to offload him, if we are not overly ambitious on the price. For £15m or so, I imagine there will be a few midtable clubs interested.
I genuinely think you can do better for 15 million. Also, his wage has to come into consideration. I imagine he's earning over 100k a week.

AWB is a £35mil player at least. A good defender and has improved his technical side a lot last 2 years. Id keep him as back up to dalot. Theres much worse dead wood to get rid off.

Maybe. I don't rate him either, but he's still quite experienced and in his best age. Perhaps some clubs would think that he could perform well for them, if he plays every week and focuses mostly on the defensive part.

The wage is certainly a problem, but perhaps he sees the writing on the wall, that Dalot is now well ahead of him in the picking order. With no Europe next season, he could play very few games if Dalot stays fit.

He's not great but also not bad. I think he can develop his technical side and be a decent backup. I would look at LB first and we have so many other glaring needs. Unless we are broke and someone is making a great offer I wouldn't do this. Its going to cost more to replace him.

Not necessarily. Wan-Bissaka costs 9m a year in amortisation and another 5m (estimated 90k per week) in salary. Disregarding cash, we could spend another 45-50m on a new RB by selling Wan-Bissaka.

He isn't a £35mil player or anywhere near it. He's a good one on one defender but his positioning is woeful. He's improved technically from terrible to less than average. If we got a £20million offer we should bite their hands off. That being said I do agree that there are a lot more deadwood players that need to go before I'd push the sale of AWB.

There aren't that many good RBs around, that's the only thing I'd caution. But if we're signing new defenders who can play on the flanks and/or we've plans to bed in more of the youngsters then I could see the logic certainly. Villa would do well to sign him, he's better than Cash.

Isn't Dumfries basically the same player with a similar athletic ability and low technical skills?
Nah, he's a proper wing backi, s overlapping and in the box more often that not. Good in the air, but not great 1v1.

World class tackling ability on an otherwise below average player. Had a short period where I was just about convinced he could be a good back up, but that has passed now. He would be an excellent transfer for a team in the bottom half, though. Should be able to get 15 million for him, so good enough.

Dumfries isnt very technical. He wont go past his man but try and power his way through. AWB is more of a defensive full back while Dumfries is a real wing back. His defending isnt actually that great but he will go up and down the wing 90 minutes long.

He's been absolutely appalling this season.

Other more high profile players having nightmare seasons have allowed him to go under the radar a little, but he's been fecking awful.

Do you guys think he'll work here? Sounds like someone more suited for a 3 at the back system then an RB in a 4231/433,

A shame such elite tackling was wasted on such a brainless and technically poor player. He'll never be good enough so good decision if this is true.

Good at making last ditch tackles, which is also a byproduct of his poor positioning and lack of awareness of what is going on around him. How many times has he played a team onside, or missed his man running in behind at the back post. Look at the Trossard goal on Sunday, AWB was blindsided. It is part of his game, unfortunately. And going up the pitch, he has nothing to offer. Gets a nosebleed crossing the halfway line, can't beat a man or cross balls in. He's a liability out of possession, and not technically good enough with the ball. Time to move on.

Strange player. Very, very good when the play is directly in front of him. An absolute liability in anything else. I'm guessing United scouts thought he could be developed here, little do they know that players do not improve at Old Trafford. A strange guy too.

I like his attitude, which at 28 years old could be useful to younger squad members.
as a player, good in the air, strong, quick enough. Could see him working in a Ten hag system

I wish people would stop talking out their ass.

My heart just sunk, buddy.

Could be a good option and provide something different from Dalot if he is good at things you, Lash and Stadjer mention. I think we need to make a lot of changes to the team this summer and it'd be good if he comes in as a cheapish option. I think genius of City's squad is that there is not much of a drop off in quality when one player is replaced by another due to injury or loss of form or rotation. If we have to compete with them, then we need to build a squad of similar quality.

OK, in five seasons, can you point me to more than one occasion when AWB went up the pitch, beat a man in the final third and crossed a ball into the box?

Most wing backs do this multiple times in one game. Look at Trippier, Walker, Trent Alexander, Robertson, Moreno, Digne...

Realistically how much are we getting for him?

If it's any less than £20m and with the huge rebuild we have planned, we might struggle to get an upgrade in quality. (Not that AWB is particularly great)

The other option is Dalot our first choice RB and the new player we get is younger with a lot of potential.

If he isn't good 1 vs 1 he's not a fit for Ten Hag's system in fact quite the opposite, for this system if you can call it that to work it requires all players to win their individual duals

I think Dalot has done more than enough to have the role next season, hopefully under a new manager, and we should be looking to prioritise elsewhere whilst replacing AWB with someone younger that has potential.

Custis is fast becoming the worst journalist of the lot

AWB has a year left on his deal in what world are the club planning to plaster pictures of him on a shirt saying he’s leaving??

Most be one of the worst football related stories ever written it’s complete drivel

We’ve finally developed him to be able to play out of pressure and then we allegedly sell him.

Sounds like stupid business to me as we have no replacement. We’d like to upgrade him but he’s great for a squad option and against special opponents (Salah springs to mind).

Was worth a punt when we bought him, though an expensive one. I figured we could teach him the offside line, defending the back post, defending cutbacks and passing teammates. I was wrong.

We will be so, so much better with two functioning full backs.

He’s nowhere near good enough and never will be, it’s either sell him this summer or he leaves for free next summer. It would be idiotic to give him a new contract and shouldn’t be too hard to find a replacement.

Not good enough to be a first team player, on too much money to be a backup.

Sell up whilst he has some value, perhaps one of the clubs coming up can have a look, as they’ll need a solid defender which he is, without much going forward.

This season he has 3 assists and multiple ‘big chances’ created. But considering most of our wingers also are not line hugging crossers, I don’t think it’s fair to single him out for this alone. Nor is it true that he cannot beat men or gets nose bleeds when he crosses the halfway line. That’s just hyperbolic nonsense.
its fair to say that perhaps we need to look at our fullbacks being more creative, not just in terms of personnel but also being tactically told to do so rather than inverting.

It also goes under the radar that we wasted a collosal amount of money under Ole. Literally 90% of the signings we made were shit:

Maguire, AWB, James, Sancho, Varane around 275m? All down the drain.

His form has taken a dip post injury but I wouldn't sell him yet. He is low on the list of our current issues in the back line. Fix CB first, and get credible back-up/replacement for Shaw, and then we'll talk RB.

I think he would, make us a far better attacking on our right handside. Let's say you're in the camp of getting Sancho back, he would allow him to attack in the "half spaces" because he'll be bombing on past him constantly. Heck, it should even make Antony better too, if such a thing is possible. He could do both, but you'd need a disciplined right hand side in CM and CB to cover his space he leaves in behind. You can set the whole team up like that in a back 3 to give him full license to roam or make sure the team know they have to be wary of that space being left in order to attack better.

He is, from an attacking sense. He gets round his winger and covers the whole flank. You wouldn't want him if you're going to sit deep. Also I still expect Dalot to be first choice, he is just a good option.

Yes going forward he'll be good, but at some point we'll need him to defend 1 v 1, however I digress I doubt we are signing any players over 25 for a transfer fee going forwards

It's time to sell him. Solid player so there will be buyers. Perhaps he could go back to Palace.

AWB doesn't make overlapping runs, he doesn't cross into the box, he runs out of ideas in the final 3rd, and passes the ball backwards. I watch him from my seat at Old Trafford every week. Defensively, he is often out of position, cannot hold a line with the back 4, cannot defend the back post for corners or crosses.

You only have to watch Coventry's 4 goals at Wembley. AWB was involved in all of them. Lost his man for the first cross. Turned his back and deflected the ball into his own net, gave a penalty away, and for the forth, he was a toenail away from playing them onside. All the other defenders were playing a higher line.
