Virgil van Dijk | Performances

Still hasn't been dribbled past by anyone yet this season.

Shame that we didn't sign VVD, but he seemed to expensive at the time. Despite his quality I still think that he cost too much money.

It is, but it's only going to follow suit so it'll seem cheap. People said the same with Pogba but Chelsea have paid £60m for a 21 year old who can't even get in the Dortmund team.

When you spend the type of money Liverpool spent for him you expect to get an elite player. That is exactly what they got with him. He has already proven his worth.

Price becomes irrelevant if they're a successful signing. Liverpool paid what they had to to get him and he's massively improved them defensively.

Should defenders or goalkeepers be on these kinds of lists? That's the question.

Icardi is an iffy choice, and you can argue Hazard blows too hot & cold to be included, but Griezmann is deserving.

I wouldn't take Griezmann over Mane or Firmino, never mind put him in my world top 10.

That's a stat that is to measure how many times CB lost tackles.

For example, VVD attempted only 23 tackles in PL and just 1 in CL. He also made only 2 interceptions in CL this season. So he won 3 ground duels in CL in 6 games.

To give context to this stat, Mustafi won 42 tackles and was dribbled past only 7 times in league.

Wes Morgan was dribbled past only once this season, winning as many tackles as VVD
Lascelles was dribbled past twice, winning 25 tackles.

In CL, just to twist some stats,

there are 91 CBs who won more tackles than VVD and most of them played just 1 game.
There are 95 CBs who won more interceptions than VVD, again most of them didn't play all 6 games.
VVD was 3rd in most Aerial duels lost in CL for CBs

That's how silly some stats are, if you use without context.

Without doubt he is very good CB though, but using some bs stats is just silly.

Really interested how pool does without him. Matip and Fabinho to stop Lewandowski doesn't sound that impressive to be fair.

Still the best CB in an alternative league table.
Not to take anything away from the credibility of the alternative league table, but this is horse shit. Ragnar Klavan is hands down the best I've ever seen conquering that table.

Oh yes. Forgot about him. He's massive.

Has to be said, he is a superb defender. Can only watch him and wish he was a United player.
Majestic.

Would've loved if Everton had scored when he stopped playing to claim offside early in the game though. You can't do that when it's going down to the wire.

People were too quickly writing him off because of the price tag and some minor mistakes he only needed to iron out. His class was always there, stepped it up another level at Liverpool.

Yep, he really is one of those elite level defenders that you don't see around too often. He should probably get POTY whether Liverpool win it or not.

The best defender in the world right now.
