I thought it was all in him to be honest but what do I know. He is a good defender but he is a bit overrated by you guys.
Even when had prime Vidic and Rio we conceded sometimes. Van Dijk can still be a great defender even if Liverpool concede every once in a while.

Joe Gomez has almost been as impressive this season and Matip is not terrible.
Van Dijk offers leadership which is something none of the others can.

No way he did - the Caf has been screaming for us to get fullbacks as fast as Robertson (of course discounting that both Valencia - yep at 33 - and Shaw are faster). He's the fastestest player in the world.

That's because you guys act as if he is Nesta reborn, which he is far from. He's a good defender in what is now a well functioning team. It's still early days. World class for me is far too premature.
We do that to our own as well - mostly Smalling in fact.
He does have a tendency to try and block stuff with his arse from time to time though - noticed that a few times. Overall a very good player, but as I stated above, I think you are going a little prematurely overboard.

Thought he was excellent last night but for me the star of the show was Joe Gomez until that last minute winner. Robertson was poor all night and needed to tuck in closer to his centre backs defensively as he was constantly having passes played inside of him.

It was poor in the second half and Napoli could/should have scored more.
It was last ditch stuff in this particular game and the full-backs, especially Robertson were poor. The centre-back duo done well. Also considering they're away from home and against an attacking side like Napoli... its understandable that they would find themselves under the cosh. Their front three let them down massively though as there was zero counter-attacking threat of quality and this meant Napoli felt confident to keep throwing men forward.

Then I watch the highlights and see that his positioning made the pass to Callejon on. There are now people saying how he's one of the best defenders in the world as a response???
It's a bit cult like to be honest, pointing out a mistake comes with it swathes of people reminding us how good he is.

Same. Our full-backs are critical to how we play so if they're both having a shocker it can derail our whole game. The midfield isn't doing enough going forward either. Van Dijk and Gomez have been our best performers this season.
From being underrated, media and liverpool fans have made him overrated by calling him the best cb in PL. Very good defender for sure but the best, hell no.
To be fair the league's not blessed with tremendous defenders at the moment.
Van Dijk is in the top three imo.
I would say he is a very decent Premier League player. I would take him here tomorrow.
