Virgil van Dijk | Performances

That came about because he was completely unaware where Isak was and tries to smash the ball. It’s really poor awareness and Maguire would get slaughtered for it.

Liverpool have lots of problems and I think he might be the worst.

Carragher doesn’t believe that was a red card.

It is a clear red card, any opportunity that gives you a free run on the keeper is a goal scoring opportunity.

Apparently according to Liverpool fans sweeping the feet from under the attacker is now allowed while trying to kick the ball. This is getting overturned like McAllister's last week, it's just all a one big conspiracy.

A lot of my mates are Liverpool fans. All going mad on the group chat, like Carragher. It's clearly a red though.

The best defender of all time sure looks a bit shite

I’ll expect the ref to be off the rotation next week

Because all he had to do was let it run past him and he was one on one with the keeper in the box. This isn’t difficult.

No, I mean that abbreviation. You didn't have to do that, what if it becomes a thing?

But for that season and a half he shone so so bright

Of all defenders whose good performances were limited to a stretch of two years, he's the best in PL history. No other defender with such a short peak was ever better. All the ones who were better than VvD managed to be good for more than a season and a half.

So do we think they will take the piss and appeal the red?

If they do what’s the most likely?

1. Red withdrawn
2. Appeal fails
3. Appeal is deemed frivolous and ban extended

Carragher doesn’t believe that was a red card.
His reasoning was bizarre, that you can't say it was a goalscoring opportunity because it never got to the point of being a goalscoring opportunity so we don't know if it was :wenger: yeah no shit Jamie, he got fouled before he could have his 1v1 with the keeper.

He’s not half the player he used to be, and what on earth was Carragher saying at half time? That was really very odd, he doesn’t think receiving the ball with only the keeper to beat is a goal scoring opportunity?

No he admitted it was a foul but said he didn’t think it should have been a red because it couldn’t be a denial of a goal scoring opportunity because there was no goal scoring opportunity because his foul denied it.

Really weird career trajectory. He was world class for 3 years and then his rapid decline started.

Such a short stint in his "prime".
