Vincent Aboubakar

It's a stop-gap half-season hiring to bring more rotation options to the squad. He'll be gone in the end of the season. Don't worry, you haven't been in a coma for the last 6 years.

Yeah my thoughts on the matter exactly

If this is the best we can do then our finances/ scouting Team are in dire state
Who is the better player we can loan with the quoted finances then? It's said multiple times that we can't/won't invest big this window due potential sale of the club.

 I'm not so sure about that.

Still, even for a stop-gap I find it surprising. And happy for him that he's even discussed. Would have assumed he'd be completely anonymous by now.

Yes I admit it's highly unlikely but would people still feel the same IF we got him AND Felix on loan

:( Remember the days we had Cole, Yorke, Sheringham and Ole? Any one of them now would be first choice. Now, instead of one striker we have 17 and a half wingers (aka forwards)

Yeah but was a very different era where you generally played with two strikers

I'm excited for this simply because I loved watching him at the last AFCON. Watched every minute of Cameroon in that tournament and he was decent. (Had just had a baby and he was only ever quiet with the football on so watched 95% of the tournament) Definitely not sure he would be any good in English football though :nervous:

But it's entertaining for nostalgic reasons none the less.

I assumed we’re going for him because we’re getting Felix on loan

Otherwise we’d have 10m spare for Marcus Thuram

Ye nowadays it’s all about wingers. 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 are the most preferred system from top teams in Europe. I think it’s always good having versatile players across the front line so you’ve always got cover.

Sometimes I also feel in a coma too by checking how far from reality my expectations are

Al Nassr needs to urgently place him due to foreign players squad restrictions, so he will come to United either free or without loan fees nd probably will cover part of the salary. He has a lot of followers from Cameroon and that brings some marketing value. He left Porto after spending a season full of injuries, was also expecting him to be in a lower competitive rhythm too.
I mean, he's no Quinzinho, but...

Ha ha, that is an anazing baby. May he grow up to enjoy watching a successful United era!

He plays at Al Nassr? So in practical terms there's a chance of a player switch between Manchester United and Al Nassr, one of the involved is Aboubakar, and he's going the Al Nassr ---> United route (the other way around would still be more comprehensible for me).

I mean that might make some sense for people who follow football more than me, but ultimately, from my distant point of view, you can't make this shit up

I keep saying this - its important we get the right loan this window because I can see them in the summer choosing to extend the loan rather than get a proper decent striker in.

Tbh honest it makes no sense in terms of planning and even in common sense. The only justification I can find for this to happen is that Man Utd wants someone to play the odd 10 to 15 minutes in some games until the end of the season without complaining that much.

I totally agree with your last sentence though. This is so far fetched that I'm pretty sure it must be true  You can't make these things up.
I would say that he's probably only an option in case everything fails, and as we know Man Utd fails a lot in the transfer market odds are he will become that feature substitute that will be used to start recovering important players.

Nah with new owners I would expect us to make a play for Kane/Osimhen etc

They play in the same league with Ighalo scoring way more than him.

Ighalo - 35 games, 26 goals, 4 assists.
Aboubakar - 39 games, 13 goals, 6 assists.

Ighalo would probably be the better loan option right now, says it all really.

Ighalo plays for the better team… They are better at creating chances and scoring goals if the stats from last season are to be believed.

As purely a backup/different option off the bench I'm sure this would be just about an ok option. The problem I see is that he clearly is not good enough and so we're still in a situation where if Martial gets injured again (he will) we don't have anyone to slot in. We'll just end up moving Rashford centrally and then be short on the wings again.

This is Manchester United, why are we restricted to loaning players not even fit to play in the league?

Haha, are you me by any chance? We also had a baby at that time and I ended up watching most of that AFCON as well. My boy slept well when I had football or even better old kung fu movies on in the background.

Aboubakar was by far Cameroons best player, miles ahead of Choupo Moting, and you might even argue he was player of the tournament individually although it was also well deserved that Sadio Mane was awarded the prize for his spectacular run which got Senegal the gold. Cameroon didn't get going in this WC either before Aboubakar was subbed on and later made a starter, he truly is their talisman.

I quite like him as a player. Big, strong, tactically smart with pressing and runs. Decent technique as well. He could do a job for 6/18 months. He'd provide a focal point, has supreme confidence in his ability and can turn his man. My main gripe is his age. I don't want to channel my inner Moyes like he did regarding Yakubu but...
