Gaming Video games that were amazing but didn’t get the recognition it deserved

Conflict Desert Storm i remember being very enjoyable. Spents hours with mates in that game. Rarely gets a mention.

Zombies ate my Neighbours I owned on the SNES was quality.

Also Blades of Steel has got to be one of the best sports games on the NES

Mashed on PS2.

One of the lads had the multi-tap so we'd play 4 player for hours. Top down like micro machines so none of that split screen crap. It got ridiculously competitive.

PlanetSide 2. I guess it was somewhat successful and is still going now 10 years after it launched, but I wish it had taken off more than it did. Not just for it's own sake, but to encourage other companies to enter the MMO FPS genre.

Suikoden 4
There's a Suikoden 4? I loved the first one, recently found there was a 2nd but didn't know it kept going. What's the best way (if possible) to play all of them on PC as I'd love to do a Suikoden binge?

Landstalker
Ah, Landstalker. That and Shining Force 2 (and #1 to a lesser extent) were my absolute favourite games on the old Megadrive. I recently played the two Shining Force games again, then tried to play Landstalker but got halfway though when the game bugged out and I accidentally saved the bug into my save file.

Yeah, good shout. That game was awesome in co-op

Suikoden III + IV were on PS2, any emulator should be able to handle them fairly easy.

Some absolute bangers but I'd say General Chaos and Landstalker were super well received Landstalker in particular was really well received and seen a little as Sega's answer to Zelda, in Japan it was a huge console seller too and scored mostly 8.5's and 9's in reviews. Legend of a game, still load it up on the emulator from time to time.

Must admit I don't remember too much of the release of the game, I was more going off of my general feel in that not very many people have ever mentioned the game in the years thereafter other than in the context of "unworthy Zelda clone" which I think is pretty harsh to it all things considered.

Suikoden 2 is possibly the best jrpg of all time, you'll love it if you enjoyed 1.

For me it's sits in the holy trinity with ff6 and chrono trigger

Well after this thread I finally did something I've been tempted to do for ages - get an emulator for these games. Started the first game again and then I'll move through the series. High praise indeed from padr81.

PSI Ops The Mindgate Conspiracy on the PS2, like a super soldier/jedi powers adventure, with elements of Deus Ex, MGS mixed in. Had a ton of fun with that one but it is almost never mentioned.

FTL, one of the best games of the last 10 years but rarely see it talked about.

Rimworld, superb stuff, .

Feck me some of the games posted in here. People never seem to get the brief

Anyway:

LOTR: War in the North.

Got mediocre reviews and most people ignored it, but it genuinely is a very good game by a brilliant team, especially in co-op.

I still can hear the opening “BLADES OF STEEL” clearly in my head.

I remember having this game but can't for the life of me remember what console it was on.

Basically a FF game just without the title

It was released on the XBOX 360, which probably did not help it much as it would have fit a Sony console more.

Lost Odyssey was a game of two halves for me. It had these short stories (I think they were called "dream sequences"?), which were just incredibly well written and emotionally resonating. Unfortunately what made them stand out so much in the game was not just their own level of quality, but also the contrast to the very generic and forgettable main plot and character cast. Combat was very traditional and the epitome of "fine", although if I remember correctly it had a exp fatigue system baked into it that basically level locked you for the points in the game which was not so much a problem in terms of difficulty but took away player choice.

In general the game simply suffered from the expectations attached to it. Both Sakaguchi (the father of Final Fantasy) and Uematsu (FFs main composer for decades) are legends of the genre and in the end the game did not reach the heights of previous works.

I think a JRPG that released at a similar time that went under the radar for a lot of people as it also released for a console that was not as well known for that genre (Nintendo GameCube) and I personally prefered over Lost Odyssey by quite a bit was Baten Kaitos.

Legend of Legaia. Remember getting it together with a gaming magazine when I was ten years old. Loved that game.

Resident Evil 3 Remake. You can finish it in under 4 hours, it has the best controls and acting out of the RE games and it's really just Terminator 1 but with a giant zombie dude.

Cognition an Erica Reed Thriller, Gray Matter and Moebius. From the writer/developer behind the Gabriel Knight games. They had really well written dramatic stories, even though they had a few dodgy puzzles that the genre is known for. I think they commerically largely flopped and I think they are pretty unknown

The above might be of interest if you like the genre as a whole
