This guy is going to tear shit up in the Premier League. Cannot believe Southampton have got him. We should have been in for him.

Seriously? He's not all that. Big and powerful, but lacks the quality in his game to play for the top teams.

Fantastic signing for Southampton. He is only young and if he impresses in the PL, then a big move surely awaits him.

Said before he wouldn't cost the £15-16 million people were talking about before when they were adamant we should sign him, when KI cost so much less. Good signing for Saints

He is a big powerful player who played in a big powerful Celtic team who in a very poor league were pretty ordinary.
He might be a decent addition to Southampton but tear shit up............ don't think so.

Southampton are on the up, so I do think he'll be there at least a couple of seasons. They'll bring in a few more like him

He didn't cost that because of the fecked up finances and transfer system in England. Had he been playing for an English club he'd have went for far more, clearly, as the precedent has shown.

So if he does well (which I expect he will), he'll make Southampton a fortune.

Can't wait to see this guy regularly in action. He's been very good whenever I've seen him, albeit only a handful of times.

"not all that"? By far our best player in the Champions League where we punched well above our weight. Give him a chance in a better league against better opposition and see how he gets on before dismissing his ability.

There's plenty of players at the top teams who lack outstanding technique but do their job extremely well. He'd get into the top teams and I expect him to prove that in the coming seasons in a better standard of league.

Well yes exactly, because Celtic are Celtic he was never going to cost that much

Well said, and sounds like we are getting the usual stereotype of a player who plays in Scotland is automatically not good enough for the Premier League. Those of us who have watched him over the past 2 years know just how good he is right now and how good he could be, he's still only just turned 22. He's going to play for one of the top sides one day, Southampton is merely a stepping stone.

Actually being from Scotland, I have watched him a lot over the last couple of years, and I don't think he'd cut it a big team. I'd imagine he'll do a decent job at Southampton and maybe even earn a bigger move if don't manage to move up the league table. His passing ability isn't good enough, and his Champions League performances are exaggerated. At Celtic Park, Barca managed record high possession and he was very poor over both legs against Juve. I'm not saying he's a bad player, but he'll never be an elite midfielder in my opinion.

If Celtic were smart they would have stuck a nice percentage fee from his next move.

I reckon he will do very well and this is simply a stepping stone

You're bashing Wanyama because Barcelona had a record high possession? Not his fault Lennon went into full on anti-football mode (and to be fair, it worked, so feck it). He was great in the CL and especially against Barcelona. Strange choice to criticise him on considering there were SPL matches where he and the whole team were nowhere near up to standard (due to complacency rather than a lack of ability).

His passing ability is inconsistent rather than not good enough. What about guys like Fellaini and Parker? Both have been playing for bigger and better clubs than Southampton and have done a decent job. Neither are outstanding passers, imo, and there's a few more players I could name at the top end teams who aren't either.

I don't think he was going to be quite good enough to be a constant regular for a team like Man United, but he'll do a very good job in the Premier League and I can see him being the type of player who does a very good job in the middle in the big games and will do a good job tracking some of the league's better midfielders for example.

Anyway, I can see him getting a move to a team like Everton in a couple of years.

If Southampton's 'project' is successful, I don't think he'd need to move to Everton, it'd be a very similar level unless Martinez miraculously improved on the current Manchester United manager's work.

The only step up really would be to a top 4 club bang in the CL (despite the fact Celtic were already there) and I'm not convinced Martinez will deliver that in the near future.

So far this season this guy looks like a very poor man's Obi Mikel. Really struggling

Yeh, looks really average. No range of passing, not really great positionally and just looks like a really poor signing for £12m. You've got to be careful signing players out of Scotland. Jelavic and Naismith other examples.

Apparently we should have signed him for £18 million or whatever figure was banded about before he went to Southampton. I mean, maybe he comes good after 6 or 7 games but right now he has all the limitations I suggested he might have when not playing against a team that just make you defend all game like Barcelona. And more limitations on top of that.

Takes time to adjust but looks like he might be yet another previous flavour of the month that the resident transfer muppets were desperate for us to sign.

And actually it shouldnt be surprising that he looked bad out there with Schneiderlin making 8 tackles and 2 interceptions I guess it didnt leave any work for Wanyama to do without the ball. Schneiderlin being the better player won all the balls and did more with it

Didn't see him today but I can't see him being as bad as you all make out. Was great against some of Europe's top teams last year, both positionally, in keeping possession and everything else now being mentioned as a weakness.

So you didnt see him but feel free to evaluate his performance. Brilliant. Shows why some people wanted us to spend near £20 million on him

Mikel is playing better

Though he was poor yesterday (Mikel). Anyway, a poor mans mikel is basically an anti-footballer. Wanyama is a decent player and when he settles, I imagine that be will come good.

I expect he will come good. He has age and athleticism on his side, so I expect he will become a good player once he gets used to the new role he will play and the pace of the league.

I agree with this.

Clearly didn't watch Naismith at the weekend then. Different player this year, when he joined Everton he was still recovering from 18 months out with a cruciate ligament injury.

Aye. Naismith wasn't a great comparison because of the serious injury he suffered, his free transfer (compared to the £12m or whatever for Wanyama), and the lower expectations (nobody proclaimed to be a star in the making). In that context he's been a good signing for Everton.

I never knew he had a cruciate knee ligament injury, so I bow to your superior knowledge.

Having said that, apart from the goal he was very poor again, I thought. Poor touch, rash passing, all round headless chicken.

His overall play has been pretty shit but he's scored a few important goals.
