Juve are trying to press him and he just puts his body in the middle and passes to the other side, which was the best part.

Even Carrick struggles against teams pressing him directly in the CL without outlets.

No idea what the negativity is on about. Want want want want want.

He's positionally aware, great at tackling and is just keeping it ticking over. Exactly the type of midfielder we lost in Fletch.

I'm not sure we need a 'tough bastard', we just need a quality midfielder. People harp on about the likes of Roy Keane being exactly that, as if that's all they were, when the truth is he and players cut from the same cloth were brilliant all round midfielders. Fellaini is another we ought not to be looking at.

Absolutely agree about Keano being much more than a tough bastard and being a world class all round midfielder.

But still think this side lacks some steel in the midfield and for once I'd like too see Carrick being utilised at his creative best rather than spending half of the match covering his midfield partner's ass.

People who want us to turn into some sort of Barca clone might not like him.

It's a style of football issue perhaps.

We can still only play 11 men.
So we push Carrick forward at the expense of Cleverley/Anderson/Kagawa, and lose Carrick's covering for a trier?
Carrick has played some great through balls from his current position(where he is usually less-rushed)
I prefer what we have.

Sandro would be my first choice but this lad would be ideal. He'd presumably be happy as a squad player which is just what we need, he's young enough to develop into better.

Played a pretty good over the top ball there. Just got intercepted.

If he's gonna improve the formation then we may even splash 15 millions on him.

We'll see how things go with him to the end of the season and if he really won't stop adding new goods to his game, then who knows... Arsenal is also interested, btw.

His close control, and first touch are pretty good. Has a good burst of pace and reading of the game too.

Reminds me of a Young Yaya Toure almost.

Against Barca earlier, he had 2 midgets on him so many times and he kept the ball very well using his body and close control. May not be the best passer going, but meh he makes up in other areas and can hit a long pass and seems to have a decent vision.

Impressive performance but probably didn't impose himself enough tonight although that was probably per Lennon

I watched him closely, I was impressed. I only counted him giving the ball away once and that was when he kicked it off for a throw in because the player he aimed for was caught dead on his feet.

I cant make a judgement because this is the first time I have ever seen him play. But he was the one Celtic player who did not look out of place on the same pitch as a very strong Juve team.

Some of his passing needs improving but he is very impressive. Tonight he swarmed all over Juve's much lauded midfield and they struggled to deal with it. Pirlo wouldn't like to play against him every week thats for sure.

I'd love to see him at United, the sort of midfield player we've been missing imo.

He seemed to play more reserved than I've seen before. It seemed like he was instructed to sit back. His passing and technique looked pretty good though, I was impressed.

First time I've seen him and I was impressed. He didn't look out of place on a pitch that had Vidal and Pirlo and that in itself was quite impressive.

Was always going to be a hard game for him and he impressed. Had the role of sitting deep and really protecting his CBs but often the team gave him the ball looking for him to do something special. If Juve had more of the ball then he would have looked much better to the casual fans but I thought he did a solid job.

Has always stepped up to the level asked of him, nothing to suggest he couldn't do a job here.

Wanyama had 90% Pass completion rate with 60 passes today. That's second most number of passes in both teams after Pirlo. Attempted 7 long balls and made 6 which is matching even Pirlo.

Also, had 4 tackles which is the highest in both teams along with Vidal and 2 interceptions.

His close control, first touch and change of pace along with strength was the standout aspect though.

"Pass of a league 1 player", bit harsh, reminds me of someone in the Hernandez thread saying Chica had the touch of a championship player

I was impressed with him tonight, hes not a Xavi passer of the ball (something which people here are criticising him for) but hes a good box to box player and I felt him and Brown outshone Vidal and Pirlo tonight.

I've never been banging the drum for this guy because I've never really seen him play but to make judgements about a player when he's playing in a shit team against the best side in Italy is beyond retarded.

Seems like he's above Celtic's level but probably only good enough for a top ten PL side, from what I've seen of him. Ki went to Swansea and I'd expect Wanyama to make a similar move.

He wasn't as impressive as I've seen him at times, but still did very well. Celtic basically walked all over Juventus for the first half apart from that silly goal, and although he wasn't at the centre of that the way he often is (probably because Celtic were playing so much football in Juve's half, ahead of Wanyama's position), he was very important to it.

I'd still definitely take him at a reasonable price, although only as a squad player. We still have no back-up for Carrick whatsoever, after all.

I think he could do a job for United currently, he'd be a better Carrick replacement than Jones anyway. Plus he's only 21, he'd certainly be worth a punt at a decent price.

Agree with this. Can't see anything special about him. He's kind of like Mulumbu.

That's an opinion not based on much. Odds more than anything else. I'm not very good at judging players in that position. He's very young still and doesn't look bad at all. Who knows how good he'll be.
It's a plus that he's Kenyan. They don't qualify often for the ACN.

Magnificent.

It's unfortunate he chose his worst game of the season for the game that was broadcast on national TV. Never understood judging a player based on very little experience. Go download the Barcelona matches and he'll go from "Mulumbu" to "Makelele"

Genuinely lol'd at Mulumbu though.

It was a response to this:

I have seen nothing in Wanyama to make me want him at Old Trafford.
If we are buying, I want us to aim higher than him.
If he can be improved, then he may stand a chance, but he didn't give me any reason to think he would make a United player.
I am more hopeful that Jesse will make it here, (than I am convinced like Daehli, or Wilson), but I'd invest the time to develop him, rather than have to do the same with a relatively expensive signing.

Is he a Tiote-like player? If so, i reckon we could take a punt on him, no more than 10m though. Him and Zaha should complete our transfer business deals for next season, with Gareth Bale to come (or not)

Young Yaya Toure was playing attacking MF for Olympiakos though, unless you want the Young Yaya who converted to DM in Barca

Pogba? The guy who came on for 10 minutes at the end of the game against an extremely tired Celtic team. Did you actually see the game?

My opinion of Pogba is obviously not based on the few minutes he played last night...get a grip man!!!
