Yup. But "tactics" like this are invariably too subtle for certain people in the thread.

Or, ya know, just bid between £10m to £12m, which would probably do the trick. I would imagine he knows that there is sufficient interest in him, unless he is blind and has no agent. This particular story sounds like bullshit, I think that is what people are getting at. Maybe bother to read some of the posts properly.

Who knows if £10m or £12m will do the trick, maybe it's £15m? Plus he may know a host of the clubs are interested in him but putting in a bid shows we are serious.

If you think the story sounds like bullshit then that's fair enough but my interpretation was criticising the club for starting negotiations rather than clicking make transfer and selecting a high number.

could this mean that we have lost faith in Fletch recovery?:(

We bid £10 to 12m then they will say no because he is worth £16m, and then its a battle to see who buckles, or we negotiate to £14m.

Conceding too much early almost always backfires.

I don't know if it would or not, but what I would imagine if Celtic got that kind of money then it would be a club record. Maybe they would want more, who knows?

My reply along with a few others after me, was certainly doubting the story as opposed to anything else. When a story says that we will make a bid that is fairly sure to be rejected so that we can move to the top of the que - I am going to be dubious.

Which is why if the story actually is true (I agree with it is dubious but not for the reason you believe) the club would start off bidding from the lower end of the spectrum in realistic bids.

Absolutely not. Fletcher's contract is secured by the club and he's expected to return in summer 2013.

Just wait as Fergie will tip his return as the 'new signing'. :)

do you think celtic will sell if offered 12m?

No. I can't see them letting go for what we'd consider a reasonable price. Depends on the player, I guess. If he's the sort that'll sulk till Summer before forcing at move, then they might take what they can get now. No signs so far that he's that kind of character though, is there?

I may be mistaken but Wanyama is sympathizing with Man United and that's his most favourite club.

If he really feels that way, negotiations may be much easier.

Can't say I've seen anything of him bar one of those highlight videos for the Barcelona game.

Does he offer anything we don't already have?

He's a traditional type of defensive midfielder. We don't have one at the moment.

I think we'll need to offer £12-15 mil minimum.

Things may always change through 2nd half of the season but it would be cool if player could keep evolving as he's fully aware of SAF's attention.

He can be even worth 20 millions. If he'll improve us, price shouldn't matter at all.

They probably won't want to sell him right now anyway tbh. A bit like Crystal Palace.

We should sign both him and Zouma. Gonna slaughter Barca on set pieces. :p

It's bit of a nothing article too. His been clever to ensure that he doesn't get trapped either way.

yeah, on twitter he's been saying it could be United trying to pressure Strootman's agent into dropping his demands.

So, we are bidding for Wanyama to make Strootman drop his demands ? Wtf ?

Can't imagine Strootman having huge demands either. He has dropped for the last season and has said previously that he would like moving to us IIRC.

Will be interesting to see how he does against Juventus in the Champions League. I imagine Lennon will use him to try and shut Pirlo down, which is as tough a test of any midfielder as you'll find.

Pirlo plays the deeper role for Juve, so i doubt he would be on him. Would mean Wanyama playing a sort of advanced midfield role.

Yeah if we were to play Juve I would imagine it would be Rooney's job to watch Pirlo, unless we still had Park of course. But yeah, that would require Wanyama playing far higher up the pitch than I've gathered he normally does.

Very much doubt it is Strootman's demands that are the problem considering the wage that he would be on at PSV. In negotiations for a player, it is the agent's demands that are generally the problem for us over recent years no?

As you said, think 'Big Kev' would jump at the chance to move to the premier league/us.

Loads of teams do that in big games against teams whose playmaker sits deep. We used to do it with Fletcher and Park.

In he uses Samaras they're going to get hammered. You need a proper midfielder who can defend to shut Pirlo down, if you let him do what you want you will lose.

Just look at Welbeck/Rooney's attempts to do it for England or Oscar/Mata's for Chelsea. Absolutely woeful job by all four and Pirlo took the piss and ran the show.

Imagine a less version of Mascherano but more of an attacking threat.

Not to mention a player who will vanish to the african cup of nations for 1 month every year. We certainly haven't got that now!

This is the last time it is held during the season. It won't be as big a problem in future.

That David Johnson twat who is a twat but is unfortunately chummy with a couple players and seemingly is the only genuine 'in the know' has basically said that United aren't in for him (or Strootman)

And if they don't?

They will likely be hammered either way!

Yeah, but we put Park on him before, not Carrick. That's what i am saying.

They'll put Brown or someone like that on Pirlo.

Do our players know about the players we are going to sign before things are released officialy?
