Do you think Lindelof will end up at United?

I think he will leave. I just don't know to which club. In Portugal, Man Utd has been the name quoted most often. Italian media also associates him with Inter regularly. The 35M€ fee number is fair and the amount expected here.

Lindelof is a very complete CB. I've followed his progress since he arrived, he's had an amazing evolution... Great mentality, a natural leader. Remember when he was a defensive midfielder at Benfica B, definitely helped him improve his technical abilities.

Yeah very true. That's why I like to see him here. Two years ago he was a reserve for Sweden U21 and replaced one injured player for the European Championship, where he then went on and started at RB. After that he's done so much. He can become one of the best defenders in the world. People who don't rate him must surely go after his games from a few years back and think he's still on that level....

Plus side is he can also cover for Valencia when he needs rest or we have injuries.

He's highly rated here in Sweden, touted as the future national team captain. Something our team is missing is strong, vocal leaders. I expect some bedding in time for him but if we do sign him, he'll do well for us. Versatile, strong and quick, reminds me a bit of Rio.

What irritates you so much? Doing good business?

We don't spend tons in Fellaini's and Rojo's and go selling our best players for peanuts, sorry

Ok well clearly you're a Benfica fan. I just don't like the way your lot constantly say we're buying your players (lets be honest, half of them aren't even that good) Unlike most United fans I don't get hung up on how much a player is sold for. Most the time when we sell a player of course he's gonna go for less than we paid.

What has Benfica to do with what the media says? Criticize those who make the reports

Still, it's obvious that Man Utd has interest in Benfica players... Otherwise they wouldn't have scouts in nearly every game. It is known that there was an offer for Renato Sanches, for example

Benfica leak a lot of stories to the media in Portugal, like what Real Madrid do in Spain. I do believe we were interested in Sanches, the likes of Gaitan and Garay though was nonsense to drive the price up.

I've never seen him play, but from what I have heard, in terms of his style, he's certainly someone who would compliment Bailly. That said, what's he like aerially? Stats suggests he's not that great and neither is Bailly.

Most of those links with Lindelof came from A Bola which should not even been considered a source seriously. I don't have any ITK info but just by looking at that source I'm pretty confident that he's not coming.

Actually, having a nice round head means that he'd have the lowest surface area to volume ratio for headers.

For comparison:

Note the more quadratic shape of Keane's head, which adds +2 to heading prowess.

I was actually surprised how quick he looked against Dortmund's Aubameyang.

The Portuguese press could say he's hours away from joining and I'd still shrug it off. Can't see it happening, think it is Benfica trying to drum up interest.

I just feel like us signing Keane is inevitable.

We can sign both

Personally I'd rather sign Dier who can play both at CB and DM, is experienced in the league and very decent with ball at feet for a CB.

If Dier is available and willing, needless to say.

The Portuguese Prime Minister could hold a press conference announcing the deal was done ( complete with Lindelöf standing on the stage wearing a United shirt) and I still wouldn't believe it.

Lindelof could start in the UEFA Super Cup and I still would say the Portuguese papers were making it up and it was a lucky guess. Every year they link us with a player or three from there.

Worth pointing out the Spurs bought Dier from the same league Lindelof is at now.

Also someone edited the Sweden national team's wiki page and has Lindelof listed as a United player.

Keane is not a ball playing cb which is crucial in a modern game. He's an upgrade on Jones and possibly smalling( jury is out on that one) but lindelof is an ideal partner to Bailly than Keane.

Don't agree with you...he is not better than Jones, Smalling or Keane...he might allround be at the same level...at best.

Maybe people should just see if he plays for Sweden on Friday and can form an opinion. I have no idea if he is good and I suspect some who are saying he is no good haven't watched him either. So now is your chance. Not better than Jones? So you would keep Jones just so we can all moan when he is injured again and everyone can say we should have sold him. Smalling who most say is a wimp. Keane who a lot say we should not be buying back as he plays for Burnley?

I strongly disagree with both of these things.

That's fine. However if you look at the threads about who should go, then Jones is top of most list, not because of ability but because he is injured most of the time, so virtually no use to us. Smalling is also named as looking scared stupid as soon as he is under any pressure. Don't think we will sell both anyway, but think Jose will let one go.

That sounds like a not really.

 Haven't really seen much of him, like is the case for most on here, so I'll reserve judgement until I see him play for us (if he joins, of course) 35 million is a good price for a good defender.

Swedish seems like a good nationality for a central defender - it has that efficient reliability vibe. I also like what the Swedish dude @crossy1686 says about him up the page being a vocal leader type - just what Bailly needs alongside him.

So Lindelöf hasn't heard anything about United interest, yet we're on page 51 in a discussion about his transfer. I imagine we will send a couple of black SUVs to the Sweden/Norway game, put a sack over his head when he emerges after the game and chuck him into the back. Done deal.

I think the sensible players don't like to talk about possible moves to other clubs until it's all done and dusted.

Have we ever signed a player from Benfica? I think their president love Manchester he's forever taking flights over here.
