Signing both him and Keane would be fecking excellent business. Then offload Jones and Smalling, leaving us with Blind, Bailly, Lindelof, Keane and Rojo. Tuanzebe and TFM for cover.

So why are we signing him if we have Smalling and Jones. With Mourinho's coaching, they will become even better.

They are inured most of the time and we need numbers and more improved quality who is reliable in big games.

Watch him play. He is one of the best central defenders in the league.

Same is with lindelof. He has similar talents and is a clean and composed tackler, ball playing defender , good in the air and strong.

Doesn't sound like it' anything near done.

I've never really thought about it but it must be pretty annoying to be a footballer and constantly having to deal with journalists making up stories about other clubs wanting to sign you.

No wonder some of them end up playing games with said journalists on social media.

Id spend half my time trolling journalists to be fair, would be quite amusing.

I just can't see this happening, it's pure Gaitan or Garay talk. We've definitely had prior interest IMO, but now I think it's just Portuguese media trying to get some eyes on them etc.

In fairness Jones has made an obvious improvement but he'll never get over his injury-proneness. And Smalling appears to be in a defending setup that no longer suits his style of defending, hence his regression this season, put him in a team that'll play to his strengths and he'll look a good CB again.

I think he's crap. Don't see what is so special about him unless he's just back up to Smalling.

He's not crap. Much higher ceiling than Smalling. He would be a perfect pair for Bailey once he matures a little more. Good, focused centre back.

He seems to have enough pace and seems good on the ball, but i have my doubts about his defendibg abilities. As soon as people highlight his ball skills as a defender, i get suspicious. I dont want someone like Stones. Anyone know if he is any good in terms of proper defending?

From what I've heard, he's a ball playing level headed CB that reads the game well and doesn't dive into tackles.
Sounds like the perfect foil for Baily who can be a hot head.

Still unsure why we need another centre back, thought we're pretty settled there already. Am I the only one who thinks Jones, Smalling or Rojo could be first choices at other big teams (Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool,..) but somehow never good enough (even as back-ups) for our fans? Yeah I get that Jones is injury-prone but he's reliable when available. Anyhow if we do get another CB I hope he's as good as Blind with the ball at his feet.

Why are people so quick to sort out our 3/4th choice CBs 'problem' when we have headless chicken like Lingard starting games for us. The attack is much more of a priority in my opinion so the talks of signing Lindelof AND Keane need to relax. If we do sign a defender it should be Lindelof as he can provide cover for Valencia as well as rotate with Bailly Jones and Rojo. Smalling should be binned imo as he is one of the worst defenders on the ball in the league and the days of having those kind of CBs at a top club are gone. And its not like what he provides defensively is something we dont have or cant be replaced by Lindelof or any good CB out there.

Signing a CB doesn't mean Mourinho is gonna forget about our attack. There's plenty of time to get all the players Mourinho desires in the time frame required.

He really isn't though. Except for being able to make a pass which isn't incredibly difficult unless your Chris Smalling he has nothing outstanding about him. When I see him play I see Phillipe Senderos.

None of those three would get a sniff at the Chelsea defence.

You simply are a poor judge of CBs.

I think at the very least Rojo could pose serious competition, while Smalling for all his weaknesses is one of the best in the air. My point is that we should prioritize upgrading our midfield, and regarding our defensive line-up, we could do better with a new RB/LB that can add something to our attack rather than a new CB.

He's far from crap. Lindelof is one of the best ball playing centre backs around, he's very composed in possesion and a good dribbler. There's a reason why they call him the iceman. He has plenty of time to improve too as he's only 22.

You've seen him two times? He's not tearing the league apart like Carvalho used to but he's tidy and very rarely makes a mistake. With his intelligence it's only natural for him to become much better. It's not so common to fin young cbs that show no pressure in any scenario.

Didn't think we should get Lindelöf back in January, but he's welcome now. But I want two new centre-backs. An older with more experience to complement him (or Van Dijk, or whoever it'll be) would be logical. We need a few central defenders because we will need a deep squad next season. Jones fitness isn't reliable and Smalling is looking more and more like a mixed bag.
