By this season he did better than all of their defenders. Their defense is garbage.

Relies a lot on his high energy, speed, dont think he reada the game that well. Wouldnt be an upgrade on Bailly/ Rojo I think, but still very young and he's good on the ball. Would prefer van Dijk mind. How so? Prone to making mistakes?
Nothing about it on Pornhub yet.
I'd be happy with signing BOTH Keane and Lindelof if I'm honest then getting rid of Smalling and Jones. Keane, Lindelof, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Rojo and Blind is plenty of options and we wouldn't (hopefully) have to go through the annual centre back injury crisis.
Why does this matter?versatile
Nobody likes a selfish loverWhy does this matter?
I don't think Mou is intending to playing Lindelöf as a centre back if we get him. Well, if injuries hit perhaps but I see him using him very much like he did with Ivanovic on the right. He's got decent pace, pretty comfortable with the ball and can carry it forward. If we get Keane as well then that's exactly what he intends.
People wanting to sign Keane or Lindelof to replace Smalling
Do people in Scotland speak Portuguese now?
I'll believe it when he is seen in a joint press conference with Gaitan, Fredy Guarin and Celio Silva.I believe it when i see him holding the United shirt or at least in Manchester for his medical.

Sorry but that is a load of bollox. The only 'terrible' game he had was away to Chelsea, when he played through a broken toe.Huh? Smalling's had a terrible season, and is often injury-plagued.
I don't think I've seen him kick a football once, let alone twice!Shiny toy syndrome. 99% of people on this forum will have never seen Lindelof kick a ball more than twice.

He had an average season (for a United CB - extremely high standard), with glimpses of brilliance, including a wonderful performance the final of a European Cup.
I've barely seen Lindelof play; a few games at the Euros and a few CL games in which he didn't stand out as a particularly good footballer.Shiny toy syndrome. 99% of people on this forum will have never seen Lindelof kick a ball more than twice.
It's maddening to suggest selling defenders to therefore bring in defenders (Keane, specifically) that just aren't better than what we have already. It's the sort of under-appreciation that dogs too many fans, something that eventually extends to the apparently incoming players as soon as they arrive here.
I can't wait until Griezmann gets a good rattling when we struggle to beat Brighton away.

I suggest to fans expecting Lindelof or Keane to come in and play to a higher standard and consistency than Smalling to re-evaluate.
To have a player with Smallings' many abilities to be happy as backup/rotation is very rare. We're lucky to have him.
I think it's modern fans expecting a CB for a top club to be a jack of all trades, able to carry the ball out of the box and make cross-field passes. The fact that Smalling will never be this player gets people's goat I think; he's a proper defender. Smalling does look clumsy on the ball at times, and makes the very odd brain fart which seems to stay with people. Actually, over the last few months I've noticed him much more comfortable on the ball and making really sound passes out of defence. There's nothing wrong with his distribution at all imo.I can't disagree with this too much, other than the fact that he's had a couple of other poor games. Certainly not a terrible season thouhgh, the forum just hates Smalling. Its just one of those things.
Considering Madrid alternates their squad nearly every game?Considering the conceded less than Madrid?
Umttiti shows promise and pique might be the most overrated defender in the world. I wouldnt have him here over a any of our starting defenders. Think about it: barca have conceded 8 more goals than we have this year playing in a worse overall league and far less injury woes.Offtopic but Pique and Umtiti are both better.

91 games in the last 2 seasons. Real injury-plagued mess.Huh? Smalling's had a terrible season, and is often injury-plagued.

Very true. I would also add that fans, not just ours, have unrealistic expectations on defenders. Literally every goal conceded is attributed to horrible and embarrassing defending. It doesn't help that the media is full of ex defenders who talk as though the column against when they played was a 0. The fact that we had Rio and Vida also is messing with expectation the same way it took so long before our fans stop yearning for a midfielder similar to Roy Keane. The fact is the game is different, full backs push higher, the game is faster, the rules are stricter, defending is more difficult than it has ever been. It is why City bought flavour of the mouth like Otamendi and Mangala with no noticeable difference or how the other flavour of the mouth Benatia is forgotten again. You focus now on defensive and tactical organisation more than any individual attributes. The downside is that modern defenders are probably less likely to stand out for pure defending. At the end of the day, the only thing that counts is the column against, that was good for us under LvG and still good now. The only thing wrong with our personnel in that area is the injuries.I think it's modern fans expecting a CB for a top club to be a jack of all trades, able to carry the ball out of the box and make cross-field passes. They'd rather take a gamble on a player they've barely seen in hope that they will somehow come in and be that ball playing, calm CB.
It's very difficult now to sign reliable good defenders; just look at Man City's spectacular failures in the transfer market over the past few years.
I'd be happy to sign a CB to replace Jones, not because I think he isn't a good defender, his injuries just make him far too unreliable.
He won't just get a good rattling. We will hear how he wouldn't realistically get into anyone else's starting 11 and how he really is no better than what middle PL teams have. Exactly what we hear now about proven top class players like Mkhi, Pogba and Mata. This disease of every year, unleashing disappointments on players and calling for an overhaul has been plaguing English football fans for some time now. Every year everyone calls for basically a new team and then wonder how come they are always in transition.Shiny toy syndrome. 99% of people on this forum will have never seen Lindelof kick a ball more than twice.

which one is which here?Lindelof and Keane in - Hodor and Bran out?
Not sure how true these reports are, but not sure what to make of this transfer when a better player is available who we can sign.
He's good and can get even better with mourinho coaching.
