VAR and Refs | General Discussion

Oh be quiet, all of you. It's a fecking penalty. What kind of idiot spreads their arms out like that in the box? You know, you fecking know, to keep your arms down. He's not sliding in, he's not stretching, he has no reason to put them out. Just keep your arms down, you absolute clown.

You don’t deserve eyesight.

For United: 10-15 yards is too close for handball to be called
Against United: 3-4 yards? thats enough to call a handball

It’s a yard away from him! What was the excuse the other week when we had a pen denied for handball on Romero? Too close, despite being about 12 yards away…

Insane decision. And the fact they gave the all clear then checked again is sus as feck.

Oh come on, he's not spreading his arms, he's jumping, when you jump you use your arms.

The fella who headed the ball also had his hands up... he didn't jump like a pencil because nobody jumps like a pencil.

You'd have a point if the ball wasn't headed towards him from 2 or 3 feet away. No time to adjust his arm position therefor it should be ruled to be in a natural position.

Football is becoming more rigged than boxing. Completely ruined the game, never in a million years a penalty.

Basically a free goal because you head the ball into someone’s arm from 1 yard away. It’s not blocking a shot, it literally a nothing header and Eriksen doesn’t move his arm towards the ball.

I honestly can’t watch much more of this. I’d rather just go and watch non league football.

The var technology is near perfect. Its usage has been awful apart from the 2018 world cup. Id sooner go back to the days where it's just called as ref and linesmen see it. Maybe call in var for offside goals and violent conduct not spotted.

I think you need to re watch that , he tried to move his arms level with his body, he was close and it came at him too quickly, it’s never a penalty.

They're not in a natural position, they're stretched out. They shouldn't be and was rightly punished.

Annoying that we can all claim ref bullshit again after this when it's poor performance and stupidity from players costing us.

Yet Romero launches at a garnacho likely goal and we get nothing. There's no other sport like it. Its completely inchoherent and based on the mood and personality of whatever prick has the whistle.

It’s not fecking technology it’s a replay that’s been around decades. Why the felt the need to even start using it I don’t know

Tell us you've never played football in your life without actually telling us you've never played football in your life.

Has any club in Europe had more decisions against them since the inception of VAR? I very much doubt it.

This is nothing strange. And I’m not surprised. Referee showed after 10 minuters that he isn’t going to be equal this game towards teams.

Opposition fans will tell you we get all the decisions

It's been like this for years. Even when faced with stats to the contrary, the narrative from pundits and the wider media is that refs favour United.

Tell us you've never played football in your life without actually telling us you've never played football in your life.

Whether he's played football or not is completely irrelevant really, because the handball law isn't designed to make sense on that basis.

Never mind football, just basic existence as a human being should tell you enough to understand there was nothing he could do about that.

You don’t need to hide your arms behind your back these days, apparently you can charge the ball down and starfish it too and it’s not a penalty so what is right and what is wrong no one knows

Absolutely ridiculous penalty today, made even more glaring by the Romero one not being given a few weeks ago. We've been absolutely shafted by VAR this season.

We’ve been so unlucky tonight. Not checking the pen on Pellistri, Onana throwing the ball in, bullshit pen on Eriksen after initially saying check complete... We get shafted so often in Europe, it’s absolutely exhausting.

It was used because of the amount of controversy over key decisions that influence games, but has done absolutely nothing to reduce it. If anything it's heightened controversy by adding this extra layer. Get rid of it.

I remember on one of the old Fifa's if you turned handballs On you could just launch a point blank cross with a good chance of winning a pen. It was unfortunately the only way I could win on World Class :wenger:

Feel like that's what it's coming to.

And yet in the PL this would never be given, so what's actually the handball law?

I agree. Get rid of it

You're just wrong about this one. There's no way he can get his arm out of the way. We've played poorly in the second half but let's not pretend the refs haven't completely ruined this game.

Edit: and it's natural to have your arms away from your body BTW.

Football is becoming more rigged than boxing. Completely ruined the game, never in a million years a penalty.
What exactly was rigged. Bayern have been dominating, we scored a lucky goal, and the penalty still has to be scored.

Yeah I know. Even the rules themselves are non sensical though, let alone the human element to it.

We’re never going back to non-VAR though. I honestly thought VAR would be great when I came in, I never dreamt it would be implemented so badly.

Why has football turned so stupid? Rules are so punishing for handballs, it's beyond ridiculous. Teams should really not care about scoring but just target hands.

And yet in the PL this would never be given, so what's actually the handball law?

Aye pretty sure there are different standards in the different competitions, which I hate in principle as well as practice.

Like feck I can explain the nuances of the handball rule. But once his arm was near shoulder height and he touched the ball, I expected it to be a penalty. In the CL particularly that gets given the large majority of the time, I think.
