Van Persie: I want to stay

To me he is.

I dont mind him being paid that much but both Rooney and himself must be ready to accept the bench. There are many occasions that a lone striker system makes much more sense then a 2 men forward line

Completely agree. And Rooney no less so than van Persie. I've got to say, those quotes are the first thing that's produced some tangible faith in Moyes in a long long while.

Great news that he wanted to put the rumours to bed, I hope he stays in the shake up of finding a cohesive squad. We have the doubters and the haters on here for pretty much everything, I hope they take it as a positive. RVP seems to have got quite a lot of stick, for NOT going through the circus that has surrounded Wayne's last couple of contract negotiations.

Great interview and it's good to see him backing moyes, we can speculate all we want about his real intentions, but we don't really know what he wants, we only have his words, he says he's happy, good enough for me.

So RvP tries to set the record straight and the non United fans suggest it's more evidence he's off...

You couldn't write it could you.

At the end of the day we never will really know. Lets just look forward to the next match and hopefully he does well for us when he plays. That goes for the entire squad. Speculation will only drive you insane.

It was always the case. It's a non story to be honest.

Lesson: Most journalists are just creative liars.

I don't think he necessarily wanted to leave but I do think he went into a bit of a sulk due to SAF's retirement. I do think SAF promised him that he'd be around for a while.

I don't often question a players commitment but RVP is a player I have concerns about in regards to his effort in recent weeks. If he scores the winner this week, it will all be forgiven :)

Although, actions do speak louder than words and his future is still in doubt, especially if the club receives an offer.

I really am glad that he's come out and said something, as I did think that things were getting a little out of hand not only in the media, but a lot of our very own fans have been saying that they wouldn't mind if he fecked off. That's crazy talk IMO, and it all formed from pure speculation.

It's amazing isn't it?

We have got a special bunch of opposition fans here.

Nice to hear. Hopefully he can now get keep his head down and start producing the performances we all know he's capable of doing.

Seems like van Persie's very good at keeping things stable and not letting the media get things out of hand. His honest tone really helps with this, and it keeps everything stable whilst he goes out and deals with his life personally without that much media attraction.

Saying this, I do really think van Persie's honest about this and not just adding some fluff to appease the fans, for now. Who knows what he may think of doing in the future?

Great to hear, I like when players makes things clear instead of keeping quiet before signing new contract and saying how happy they are at the club and that they never wanted to leave only after they have signed new contract.

Let's hope we will see him at his best on Sunday.

Me too but sadly it doesn't happen enough in football. I suspect their agents play a role in this leaving things open for interpretation.

Interesting quotes from RVP doing the rounds from that interview

"I've been a professional footballer for 12 years and there is no doubt I'm learning new things and progressing under David Moyes"

“David Moyes’ sessions and the things he says in his team meetings are spot-on. I really enjoy working under him.”

RVP:

"The sessions we have on the training ground are fantastic and I’m learning a lot from them every day. I’ve been a professional footballer for 12 years now and there’s no doubt I’m learning new things and progressing with David Moyes."

"Over the last few years, I’ve started to look more closely at the way coaches work to learn from them – not just here at the club, but with the international team as well. I’ve worked with some brilliant coaches and I’ve taken a real interest in all the methods they use and the choices they make. And Moyes’ sessions and the things he says in his team meetings are spot on."

"I really enjoy working under him and I’m absolutely convinced things will pick up and we’ll turn it around. He really wants things to work here at Manchester United and I want the same, just like the other players. We’re all working hard to make this work.”

Great news! I was getting worried he'd be off in the summer.

You think he was forced to say those things?
Forced against his will? How? If he wanted to leave he'd simply have refused to do the interview. What could the club have done about it then, sell him?

Personally, I'll wait and see. If he's still here next season I'll accept what he said at face value. I'm old enough and cynical enough not to accept without question everything anybody involved in football says. We'll see.

Just yesterday (or the day before) he tweeted that he just had a great training session. Don't think all this is a show tbh. Although I suspect he's been told that him and Rooney will still be the top strikers at the club next season and there will be good players incoming. Almost certain now that Hernandez is going to be off.

That is what I am questioning. The poster said that, "Won't take his quotes about Moyes at face value though considering this seems like a PR exercise by the club."

To me he is implying that RVP was forced or cajoled by the club into saying those things. As those are the quotes directly from Robin's mouth not some clubs spokesperson.

Don't think so, no. Everyone connected to the club is backing Moyes to the hilt in the media, and that is the position that van Persie has taken as well. No harm in praising your manager if he isn't going anywhere and you are apparently staying at the same place as well.

He is willing to stay here even though he is unhappy? You are confusing me, man.

That the club made him praise Moyes? Sorry but I found the notion preposterous.

Aye, its ridiculous. The only instance he'd be forced to speak positively when he doesnt want to is if the interviewer asked him specifically about Moyes's training methods. Even in that case, the response is far too long to be forced.
