Van de Beek to Girona for 500k

A better way to look at it is a return on investment. Donny cost a third of what Pogba cost. Did we get a return on investment of a third of what we got with Pogba?

DVB 62 appearances. Mins played 1076 goals 2 assists 2. £27881 per minute played. £7.5 mill per goal/assist.

Pogba 233 appearances. Mins played 17,718. Goals 39. Assists 51. £5023 per minute played. £1 mill per goal/assist.

 Embarrassing when you look at it in a way that actually matters.

state of your post.

Irony clearly not lost on you

1 half against Watford in the game that got Ole the sack was the only match he looked like a Utd player, the only match he played with some fire, for almost the entirety of the rest of his mins it was tidy ineffectual nothingness.
That's a little harsh. There was a short period at the end of his first season and beginning of his second season that he also played with some passion and fire, was getting stuck in and was looking like he was trying to make things happen. It's not like he was great or anything, but it was the one period in his time here where it looked like he might be useful. It was also the one time that I thought the manager was a bit harsh on him, as the beginning of his second season was the same time that Fred and Scott were playing terribly and I felt VDB should have got a bit more gametime to see whether the improvement could continue or if he'd drop right back off again.

Peaked in his first 10 minutes or so as a United player.

I suppose it wasn't his fault we bought him, but I've got no sentiment towards him at all, and hopefully we won't see him back here again.

What a waste of a signing this was. Who the hell finalised the signing?

It's amusing now to think back to the general sentiment on here during his first season - the majority were screaming for Ole to play him, or suggesting DVB was just so intelligent and technical that the rest of the team couldn't gel with his style.

Truly an awful signing. Wasn't even an improvement on Lingard or Pereira, and didn't even play in a position we needed to strengthen.

Not an exageration to say that Pereira would improve us right now.

we will still get more money back on Donny than we did on two Pogba transfers
And….

Bryan Robson
Rio Ferdinand
Nemanja Vidic

Who also started 90+% of the games they were available for and left at the end of their contracts.

Biggest waste of time transfer ever. Never understand players who go somewhere they are clearly in backup roles. Like what is your plan, bench the teams must important player? Horrible decision making

That Ajax squad would have smashed into dust any of the United squads over the last three seasons.

Hope he gets his career back on track. He is not United quality but the injuries have ruined him even further.

Best of luck to him. Brought in as squad player and that didn't even work out. Was some ridiculous hype when first signed by clueless people just one example here.

A system player with a purple patch. Based on this, we were stupid enough to buy him. Ole was probably shocked how bad he was individually without his Ajax system and the team flying.

Mount is replacing him currently as the useless option.

You wouldn't believe this was about Donny Van De Beek :wenger: I had reasonably high hopes for him too, but this is another level.

No loan fee
No coverage of wages
Option to buy at less than 10m EUR

No wonder we're on the brink of FFP violations.

But instead let's keep him at the club doing absolutely nothing....

What was the deal with this guy in the end? Attitude problems or just really shit? Because the latter doesn’t usually stop you from getting a game here.

He's a #10 who couldn't hack it in the prem but also a #10 whose play style doesn't revolve around actually getting on the ball and being creative at all. Bruno is our 10 and plays 90 minutes every game. That's about it..

Regarding the title, how can an option even be mandatory?

It seems his speciality was as a space finding number 10 who is good at one or two touch passes.

Who had the slight issue that our best player plays thay position and bar late bookings to avoid difficult games never misses a game.
Plus we don't play that style of football.

Such a timid player who never had the physical attributes to succeed in the premier league , we don't seem to do any extensive research for suitability bar reading about a player in the Daily Mail etc.

Anyway best or luck to them in Germany , hopefully he succeeds there and gets his career back on track.

To be fair, maybe ol' Kaveh is from the future and saw the Antony signing before us.

Shame it didn't work out but Bruno plays every minute of every game in his favourite position and VdB is never getting in ahead of him. Now Mount is here there are even less chances for him. He'll do alright in the Bundesliga and hopefully get us some sort of a fee.

It literally says in the tweet that there is a loan fee. The club would never just lend a player out for fun.

There was a tweet a few days back from a reasonable source that suggested no loan fee and didn't mention the additional 4m in add-ons.
