Valentin Barco

We should be all over this, especially for £8m. Malacia's OK but will never be United starter quality. This lad can play left wing and probably in central midfield roles too. We rarely tend to go for these hidden gems though, especially not under ETH.

Nah, we'd rather pay £5m for a backup goalkeeper.

I've been watching Moscardo and he does look a talent for his age. But I think it's a little bit too early for a thread on him just yet.
Update, seems like Chelsea are close to signing him

wish united would go for these kids

It's unbelievable.

That's about 4 youngsters Chelsea have signed now that I mentioned on the forum since last year. And now it seems Moscardo is joining them too.

The big difference is the ownership and the scope that ownership gives to the recruitment team. And Chelsea have wasted vast sums of money on players as well but when you can spend over a £1bn on signing players you will inevitably end up signing some players that will be very good for you in the mid to long-term.

And another advantage they have is the investment they've made in the French club Strasbourg where they will be sending their young hot prospects on loan, which we can't compete with due to our owners. Something has to give sooner rather than later and either Sheikh Jassim or Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have to try and compete with the current state of play in the EPL. Both Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe (INEOS) do seem to have the capital to make a difference.

And to add to this post, ClearLake Capital are now reportedly looking to buy stakes in Portuguese clubs.

This has been happening for months now - they started smaller with clubs like Estoril and Rio Ave but if they're going after Sporting that's truly crazy.

It's a big advantage to have owners who can buy-up satellite clubs to then hoover up younger talent and provide them with opportunities to develop further at clubs in France, Portugal or elsewhere at a good level. And your club has been stock-piling on young players since Abramovich arrived and hence you've been the most dominant youth side domestically in the last 15 to 20 years where you've won 8 FA Youth Cups on the bounce if I'm not mistaken and also had success in the Uefa youth league where you've won that competition 3 times. And because you had Abramovich as your owner who was very ambition, it gave the football people at the club the scope to bring in the best players both at youth and at first team level. And because you stockpiled on so many talented younger players at every level on the youth side of the club since the Abramovich reign, you make excellent money by selling the ones that you don't need.

City are doing the same thing and have been stockpiling on younger players since 2009 under Brian Marwood. And they've recently signed a young player from West Ham (who is said to be highly rated) and sent him to one of their feeder clubs to develop, and they'll probably make a profit on him once he's established himself. The RedBull clubs are also taking advantage of the same strategy where they've bought 8 clubs in total with 6 of those clubs being feeder clubs to the two big clubs in Germany and Austria. And those 6 clubs are scattered around the globe hence they're stockpiling on talent.

Yeah - it's completely fecked up the normal youth development pathway and shifted the pressure onto younger and younger players to perform, which obviously isn't healthy or good for anyone.

If Chelsea's owners go out and buy one of the big 3 clubs in Portugal though that's a whole other level of the malignancy spreading - hijacking a huge club's history and making them effectively a feeder is beyond distasteful.

The Saudi Public Investment fund is said to be a major investor in ClearLake capital according to reports.

Well it depends on your definition of major as they legally can't own more than 5% of the fund and they're one of 300+ investors. Personally would say major is a stretch, especially as they have no influence on decision-making.

It was reported to be major investment from the Saudis and that's all I'm going off.

Not that it makes a difference to the point I was making because the point still stands, and for us to operate on a level playing field we need new owners who are ambitious.

It's just wrong that you can own more than one football club. By all means have partnerships or even perhaps sponsor another smaller club but you shouldn't be able to have any kind of remotely significant stake in more than one club.

Yeah that’s what I was referring to. Authorities always two steps behind. The whole operation at Chelsea stinks.

Ideal for them, can manoeuvre players for inflated fees to Saudi clubs, whilst locking down a world class talent line in Sporting. Also expect to be seeing more players move between Chelsea and Newcastle for inflated fees to balance both clubs books.

Good post.

Seems off to City. United has taken its eyes off talents from S.America.

8m. I mean......

What's the risk here? He's massively talented, very good for even his age and he fits the position we required after Shaw's injury. What's the risk or the downside here? That an 8m full-back possibly could not set the world alight?

It's crazy that we're not in for this kid. A lot of teams are going to look like hindsight idiots when he moves for peanuts and establishes himself amongst the world elite in his position. We're gonna have this thread bumped, we're all going to lament why we didn't move earlier before Brighton or City, and then we're going to pay up for a lesser talented established player at six times the valuation.

Looks like those City links have come true...

8 fecking million and a position we needed. Let it be known that the best team in the country are all over this guy, meanwhile, do we even know he exists? (obviously we do, but still). We're going to look like mugs when we're complaining how City have built another long-term winning squad and we're outspending them for players with a fraction of this kid's talent.

We're gonna rue not snapping this one up.

Doesn't look like his career will progress as a full back, at least Boca doesn't think of him as a full back but a winger/midfielder

Looks like he'll be more of an attacking player. Argentine Bale!

City are consistently going to the Argentine market and signing players every season. We should learn a thing or two

We don't learn, we loan.

Saw this kid play once and I would have signed him up after that game. Since then I've watched him a few times and it's just become more clear that he's got all the ability to be a top top player.

This is the sort of signing that's a no brainer. Just depends on who gets in there to do the deal first.

Roy Nemer has confirmed it as well. City have first dibs on every top talent in the Argentine Primera it seems.

The news is a bit confusing but my take/guess is that Barco will sign a new contract with Boca doubling the release clause which City will activate and the player will leave at the end of the year.

Coming along nicely it seems. The tracking back at 1:40 impressed me the most. Both sides of his game on display.

I don't see any reason why we are not in for him. This is not a gem unearthed by City.

I hope we keep him at least one more year.

He is a strange player, he started as fullback but defensivly he was easily overpowered many times.
He is extremely confident since a very very early age, specially regarding taking on players, or flamboyant stuff. That is the sign of a a special player.

Yet:
1. His physique is quite a question mark...he needs to get stronger, not that much anymore if he starts to play as a midfielder
2. His entourage regarding transfers, ownership, it's since day one quite discouraging like the usual nowadyas stuff of financial Groups "owning" players since a very uyoung age...too many talks about him since 16, it's a very problematic enviroment
3. He has lost too many matches to mature these last years mainly because of the above situation, that also includes Boca being quite stupid or confusing too.
3. He doesn't have a role, he really doesn't

So he is a mistery with a very noticeable talent and skills and winner attitude, yet to many questions around him
