Oh but RD, these old right wingnuts I work with will let you know that it is the liberals bringing about socialism and whatnot, and the conservatives are trying to restore Uhmerikuh's past, you know it being a kristian nation and all.

I'm only surprised that the Repubs wouldn't welcome such an (apparently) immoral money-grabber with open arms, chief. :D

Speaking of xians, I caught a brief few minutes of some radio lunatic, Sid Roth, speaking with an "Islamic scholar" about Islam (he was of Middle East descent though I failed to catch his name). The "scholar" claimed that Islam is a brutal religion (aren't they all in text?) and the "Islam is a peaceful religion" talk is just a ploy to con the world and ultimately impose its law on the world. Mr. Roth then chimed in about how Muslims select and/or edit passages to fit their view. I could only think how xians do this too, yet Roth did not mention my sentiment and only continued to bash Islam.

Cannot believe this kind of shit is allowed on the airwaves.

I despise all religions these days but this is atypical of the US kristian movement - bash all other religions and non-conformists, and imply that your view is the only correct choice.

Do you ever listen to Dennis Miller? If you ignore his silly political stuff he's actually very entertaining.

He's brilliant and I miss his show. I also enjoyed his presence on Monday Night Football but sadly most of the MNF viewing audience were too simplistic and ignorant to understand his views and words.

Tbh Marcello...none of these 'religions' are trully representative of the faiths they claim to represent. I am Roman Catholic. But there have been many times I felt like walking out the church when they insert these political 'soundbites' into the homilies.. I have no respect for the money hungry catholic bishops. Heck the Nuns should run the church. They are the ones who are really concerned about the poor.

I do give a substantial amount to the church...I just hope they use that money for 'real church needs'. I also give to the Catholic charities like the Outreach programs which I know help very poor children all over the world.

Many young people you speak to have stopped coming to church because they can see the hypocrisy.

Mitt Romney Never Thought He'd Have To Release Tax Returns: Bain Sources

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/18/mitt-romney-tax-returns_n_1682539.html

too funny....

WASHINGTON -- Mitt Romney has been determined to resist releasing his tax returns at least since his bid for Massachusetts governor in 2002 and has been confident that he will never be forced to do so, several current and former Bain executives tell The Huffington Post. Had he thought otherwise, say the sources based on their longtime understanding of Romney, he never would have gone forward with his run for president.

Bain executives say they've been instructed to keep company and Romney-specific information completely confidential, tightening the lockdown on an already closed company.

But pressure has been building on the presumptive GOP nominee. On Tuesday, the conservative National Review added its voice to a chorus of Republicans pushing him to disclose his returns from the years before 2010.

The Obama campaign has been hammering Romney for the past few weeks over his time at Bain, which Romney claims ended in February 1999, but which documents and his own testimony show lasted much longer. The ultimate prize for the Obama campaign would be a trove of Romney's tax returns.

So far, the intense focus on his Bain time seems to have only hardened Romney's objection to releasing more returns. He is "not enthusiastic," he told the National Review on Tuesday, about giving Democrats thousands of more pages to rifle through for material that they can "distort and lie about."

Asked about the Bain executives' observations, Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said, "Rumors on what unknown people who Mitt Romney may not have ever met muse about what someone else, also unknown, told them should not justify a story."

While Romney may personally prefer to drop out before releasing more returns, people who know him note that he doesn't always do what he wants. Torn between his longtime desire to be president and his equally strong belief that he should not be forced to release more returns, Romney may turn, as he has with so many big decisions, to strict numbers-based analysis. If he plummets in the polls and the risk of defeat presses itself on him, the sources say, his calculation could change.

A variety of possible explanations for Romney's refusal to release the returns have flowed into the information vacuum. The Obama campaign has floated the notion that maybe he paid no taxes at all in some years. Others have wondered if he was part of the Swiss tax evasion scandal of 2009. Underlying the resistance, sources close to him say, is Romney's belief that voters simply don't have a right to see what should be private financial information.

If the scrutiny that Romney's 2010 taxes have already undergone is any indication, his fears are well placed. The filing indicated a Swiss bank account -- unprecedented for a presidential candidate -- which added to the image of a wealthy man unfamiliar with ordinary people's limitations. Bain filings show that several of its companies set up shop in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, places known as tax havens.

Romney told the National Review that the Cayman Islands company was set up to allow foreign corporations to invest in the United States without paying U.S. taxes. "[T]he so-called offshore account in the Cayman Islands, for instance, is an account established by a U.S. firm to allow foreign investors to invest in U.S. enterprises and not be subject to taxes outside of their own jurisdiction. So in many instances, the investments in something of that nature are brought back into the United States. The world of finance is not as simple as some would have you believe," he said.

For now, Romney continued, he's content to keep the returns private. "In the political environment that exists today, the opposition research of the Obama campaign is looking for anything they can use to distract from the failure of the president to reignite our economy. And I'm simply not enthusiastic about giving them hundreds or thousands of more pages to pick through, distort, and lie about," he said

How the feck has Romney gained in the last week? Jesus christ America.

The realization that Obamacare is a crock of shit, and the faltering economy. Most people aren't analyzing the candidates (Romney) like the Caf.

Bachman with yet more nutty chatter.

Gonna be a sad day if Romney is elected. We truly will deserved to get fecked in the ass by another GOP nightmare. Hello Iran and Syria.

National polls count for little in this election. Take a look at the polling in swing states. I'd also give this Bain stuff a week or two to really start registering nationally. The Obama team have only been running ads about it in swing states.

Samar Ali/image via law.vanderbilt.eduAt least two of the resolutions, from Stewart County and Williamson County, oppose the Haslam administration’s recent appointment of Samar Ali, 30, as international director at the state’s Department of Economic and Community Development (ECD). Ali, a lawyer and a 2010-2011 White House fellow, received both her undergraduate and law degrees from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where she was the first Arab-Muslim student body president. In an emailed statement, Clint Brewer, assistant commissioner for communications for ECD, called Ali “one of the brightest leaders of her generation from this state.”
“Her extensive work experience in international business makes her eminently qualified to serve the people of the Volunteer State,” Brewer said. “We have absolutely no plans to dismiss her. On the contrary, we are proud of her hire and lucky to have her as part of our team.”

The county GOP resolutions denounce Ali as an expert in “Sharia compliant finance.”

Anderson Cooper had a couple conservatives on last night talking about Bain/Romney and they spun it that it doesn't matter, it only prevents the real issues from being talked about, that VP candidates go through more scrutiny than POTUS do (AC thought that was quite stupid that a VP has more background checks that POTUS).

Who was AC speaking with? None other than Ari Fleischer, Mr. Spin Doctor himself.

Also, Piers Morgan had a great interview with Justice Scalia.

There was an interesting piece on NPR on the way in to work this morning. They had analyzed polls in the key States and its neck and neck at 46% now, only 3% are undecided. A little bit of a worry is 85% of the Romney voters are definitely going to vote on election day, whereas only 75% of Obama votes are 100% committed to voting.

With a more enthusiastic voter base and 3% of the electorate undecided Romney has a very good chance of pulling it off, which is depressing to say the least.

I am in the states right now, albeit a red state, and have been promptly reminded of how fcking stupid americans can be when it comes to politics. I am even more confident that Romney will win this fecking thing and its depressing.

The republicans like the 'the other' narative Romney is putting out.

When it gets to the details of what Romney is for...the dems will turn out.
.

I am not sure they will TBH. There was a certain amount of excitement for Obama's first term. He seemed so refreshing and everyone expecting a lot of change, plus people were swept away with making history. There were millions of first time voters that had never registered before and there is a very real chance a lot will drift back into their old non-voting ways.

I have to say that I'm surprised how close Romney still is in Virginia, Colorado, Ohio, and (probably) leading in Florida.

It's possible this election could get lost if Romney goes for a competent VP. Clearly talk of Bain is running out of steam.

They ran some fairly effective counter arguments on Bain. Ultimately Obamacare and the economy will be far more important than any other issues, and Obama will come under a lot of fire on both.

Any semblance to the Amerikan Republikan party that represents approximately half the country and may elect Mitt?

Fourteen Defining Characteristics Of Fascism

By Dr. Lawrence Britt
Source Free Inquiry.co
5-28-3

Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14 defining characteristics common to each:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism – Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights – Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of “need.” The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause – The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military – Even when there are widespread
domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5. Rampant Sexism – The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

6. Controlled Mass Media – Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security – Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined – Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government’s policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed – Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts – Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment – Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption – Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections – Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
