US Politics

The obvious solution is to ensure the fetus has 2nd Amendment rights.

The only thing that can stop a bad doctor with a suction device is a fetus with a gun.

I’m not sure if its possible to be surprised any longer when it comes to the shitfest that is USA

California or New York should outlaw selling or possessing guns but delegate enforcement to citizens, like Texas did here. I guarantee you the majority that claims they couldn't intervene would issue an immediate injunction.

The last thing we need in CA is outright ban on selling guns. It is too late for us civilians in the cities. We need SOMETHING. A couple just got shot and killed at 1345 on a week day. One of the people I know of just went to jail for 26 years for killing someone who supposedly killed his friend. Mind you this man was coaching sports in between the murder and arrest. My city is a mere 150k.

That something you need is an outright ban. Every county does this in the world and the Americans are sitting and saying 'it will never work in america'. It will, just shut the feck up and do it America.

How do you propose that getting passed into law?

IMO, An outright ban simply is not viable to get passed in the near future. The only eventual path is passing reasonable gun control that can gain majority support (closing private sale/gun show ban, banning domestic violence and animal violence convicted from owning guns, and restricting ammo). You'd also need widespread police reform because one reason a lot of minorities won't support a gun ban is they don't feel like the police really have their protection in mind so they feel they have to protect the home.

After Sandy Hook there is no way anyone can honestly believe a gun ban is possible short of a civil war that ends in a new constitution. This country is rotting away and I don’t believe it can be saved, although there is hope that COVID may wipe out a decent bit of that rot.

Tbf people tried to start a civil war last year and it didn't produce a gun ban... not sure anything will

Being rumored a sizeable number of refugees are headed to Texas. Can't think of a worse state, well maybe Alabama or Mississippi, to send refugees.
Wonder where these rumours have come from?

> Idiots carrying long guns
> Public policy dictated by an outdated book
> Suppression of women's rights and minorities
> Neighbours spying on each other for a reward
> Slipping democracy
> Sweltering heat

It'll be like they never left home.

Stuff like this is why the turtle played hardball on SCOTUS picks. On the other hand, some conservatives have been disappointed in various rulings by Gorsuch, Kavannagh, and ACB.

The solution is obvious.
The Democrats control Congress and the Presidency.
If they passed Single Payer, The Texas Court decision would be negated.
I await the usual excuses.

No excuses, but there is the inconvenient reality that most Dems don't favor these policies, nor is Abortion even remotely a driving factor behind policy choices.

That was not the point I made.

Single Payer would help working families and the poor, whom your party claims to represent. As an aside the abortion issue would not arise.
The fact these Dems do not favor policies (abortion) which is a personal matter, merely explains why they do not represent the voters they claim to represent.

If the voters prioritized these policies as a precondition of voting for politicians, then you may see different results. The fact that they don't suggests that they largely don't vote on individual policies.

As you well know, voters are bombarded with disinformation and misinformation via corporate owned media.
How many people truly understand the issues.
They are too busy surviving.

Single Payer will ensure everyone is covered for far less cost to them.
There need be no Student debt.
People would not need to retire into poverty as Social Security can easily be fixed.

And these would not raise the National Debt. The reverse in fact.

And I am not here mentioning the millions of lives saved by not going into endless wars. Guess which industry favors that.

I could go on. These are a few examples.

The truth is obvious. These politicians are de facto employees of the huge industries. The Military Industrial Complex. The Fossil Fuel Industries. The Banks. The Health Insurance industry. The Pharmaceuticals. Just to name a few.
I'm not saying theses politicians are all evil.
Many believe they can make some difference. They just accept this is how it is. So they choose to work within the boxes drawn for them.

The only way to change things is not to accept.
It will not be easy. To do what is right always comes with pain.
Nothing worth fighting for comes without pain.

There are two choices.
On one side is Humanity.
On the other is Power and those who want to perpetuate their power.
Why?

Control.

If they do not exercise control they would lose power and eventually will be held accountable/answerable for their actions.

I believe everyone who had to make a choice between the two will choose Humanity.
Not one of us would choose money in exchange for an innocent person dying somewhere.

People do make choices every 4 years at least and they often choose against Humanity. The ones in power are good at persuading idiots, of which the US has more than it’s fair share, to vote against their own best wishes, all the time.

They are not idiots.
They have been conditioned by who they listen to.
They think because someone wears a suit and tie and reads a script, he is reading the news.

There is talk now about Social Security running out of money.
Oh not right now. But in the years to come.
People are being conditioned to support measures to ensure the retirement age is raised.
They are being told. You will be alright.
Let those who don't need it now fight their own battles.
Your grandchildren or someone else's grandchildren.

The solution is simple.
Raise the cap. Tie payments to cost of living in their respective states.
Just basic necessities.
Housing and heat, Food and Health Care at least.

The burden for these people who enter poverty after retirement is passed on to the States and Counties.
Many work beyond their capacity to work. To the point they die of ill health shortly after they retire.
This is not acceptable.

They are idiots for not questioning the info they’re receiving, and not seeking alternate views.
As for social security; they’ve been saying for a while now that it’s running out. Time to means test it and raise the rate on payrolls? Or they could buy less cruise missiles and close a lot of the tax loopholes.

You can immediately solve the Social Security problem by lifting the cap. Everyone pays in.
Then cap the top earners taking out.
It will pay for itself.

I like it. And this goes to show that it's mostly theater.
They can fix it easily and without burdening the working & middle classes, if they have the will to do so

He doesn't really have a coherent platform beyond his UBI schtick, so it will be interesting to see what he comes up with. Probably some weird hybrid between Captialism, a green economy, and UBI.

He's got his weird internet bros who love him so I assume he's just taking advantage of them to make money.

Notably absent from the 9/11 memorial ceremonies on Saturday was former President Donald J. Trump, a native New Yorker who built much of his political brand in the divisive aftermath of the attacks.

“He had the option to attend but decided to honor the day with different stops,” his spokeswoman, Liz Harrington, said.

President Biden, former President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton all attended the somber name-reading ceremony in Lower Manhattan. Former President George W. Bush spoke at a memorial near Shanksville, Pa., where Mr. Biden attended a wreath-laying ceremony.

But instead of appearing at one of the ceremonies, Mr. Trump released a series of aggressive statements that criticized Mr. Biden’s handling of the troop pullout in Afghanistan and praised his allies, including Rudolph W. Giuliani, his personal lawyer and the mayor of New York on the day of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Lee Cochran, a spokeswoman for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, confirmed that Mr. Trump had been given the same information about the ceremony as the other current and former presidents who did attend.

“You would have to ask Trump’s team about their decision, but he did not attend today’s commemoration,” Ms. Cochran said.

Mr. Trump visited a police precinct and a neighboring firehouse in Midtown Manhattan. He briefly paid tribute to the heroism of the police and firefighters after the planes hit the twin towers, but spent most of his time treating the visit as a campaign-style rally, continuing his criticism of the Afghanistan pullout, complaining about crime in cities, commenting on how many police officers and firefighters supported him, and falsely claiming once again that he had won the election.

At the fire station Mr. Trump visited, one firefighter in uniform wore a Make America Great Again hat as he posed beside the former president. A Fire Department spokesman, Jim Long, said that wearing clothing with political messaging while on duty was against department rules and that the infraction “will be addressed.” He did not elaborate.

Mr. Trump has claimed in the past that he spent extensive time with emergency workers in the aftermath of the attacks, but the workers have said that claim is exaggerated.

Mr. Trump also virtually addressed Let Us Worship, an evangelical event at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. And he was set to provide commentary for a pay-per-view boxing match in Hollywood, Fla.

"No one's more patriotic, a lot of people say it."

US kills people dead!
Not exactly the best thread for this but I didn’t want to start a whole new one so here you are.
Anyway, an interesting article on a study that I’d heard about before; that US life expectancy is lower than Europe’s and that is across all the race and socio economic groups.

Is it a surprise with the eating habit alone is enough to draw the averages down a few notch.
