US Politics

Starting from about 46:15 to 54 or maybe 63 mins here is a good summary of the Dore/AOC thing

Really interesting article.

I wonder how much was simply down to Trump running as the president(Thus giving him more legitimacy)or if this a deeper ideological commitment to right wing nationalist neoliberalism.

Also immigrates from ''communist'' countries really just the worst people on the planet.
Not really. Just people who have experienced the virtues of communism, namely not having enough food on the table for the most part, and not having the freedom to speak. It is the rich kids from capitalist countries who fantasize about the goods of communisms who are the worst.

GOP did a very good campaign in connecting the Democrat Party with communisms which meant that immigrants from communist countries tend to vote GOP. Of course, this couldn't be furthest from true, the Democrat Party is a center-right party and even 'commies' like Sanders are essentially centrists. So while their entire success was based on lies and propaganda, that doesn't make Communism any better. People who had to suffer it still bear the scars of it and get easily brainwashed into Dems = commies = bad.

Still historically and philosophically illiterate or just lying?

Does someone care to explain why this monster bill with an infinite number of pages try to legislate so many things that have nothing to do whatsoever with the main goal of the bill?

And obviously, the 600$ direct check is a total disgrace. Hopefully, Trump vetoes it. Dems were morons and cowards for accepting this abomination, especially with Trump and a few Republican senators having already said that they want larger checks for people.

Aw sorry. Forgot that leftists are experts at everything, know everything, are purer than others and obviously, any debate with them starts by them offending people.

Someone needs a safe space?

You come from Germany right? Talk with people from the East how much better they had than the ones from the West.

Or take a trip to Korea and see how much better communism is. The poor South Koreans, always in envy of the utopia to their North.

Pork is the American political way.

No chance in hell Trump vetoes the bill. His tepid call for a higher amount & the few Republicans senators advocating for it is / was not near enough to sway political opinion for the bill.

This is pretty common in bills - both sides understand the urgency of the bill and the likelihood it gets passed into law, so they attach various unrelated pet projects to it with the knowledge that the opposition don't have much leverage to object.

As for the $600 bit, I'm guessing Biden will be doing another bill once he's in office, although its not clear how that would go down since we don't know who will control the Senate.

Unless Dems win the senate, I cannot see it happening. Dems couldn't have asked for a better chance to push for bigger checks than right now.

Right, your location says Munich but I assume you did not go to school in Germany. Why don't you talk to a twelve year old near you who had history education in a German school. They can teach you the term they learn when speaking about the realities of the political and social systems in the countries you call "communist" and why they use it. You might actually learn something.

However, last time you threw around the term a few weeks ago, it only took a few posts until you agreed these states weren't really communist. See here: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/us-politics.426868/post-26454360
Only to come out with the same nonsense again today. Curious innit.

Saying that those states were not really communist is as nonsense as saying that capitalist states are not really capitalist (yes, no system has 100% free market) or absolute monarchies are not really absolute monarchies (yes, the monarch with absolute power doesn’t have absolute power).

Every system is (and has always been) a hybrid system. In most cases, the system is dominated by some ideology, while there are other ideologies present there. Nevertheless, there have been dozens of implementations of systems where communism was by far the most dominant ideologies and all of them had starvations and incredible sufferings. So it is not to be surprised at all that when people who come from those countries hear that word, they remember the hell that they came from and get easily scared.

Unsurpsingly you do not want to learn and just keep on strawmanning with your wild mixture of McCarthy-conservative and neocon talking points. Your contradictions were pointed out last time and you had no answers to that then and not now.

Thank you oh wise one. I assume you have PhDs in economics, history, sociology, and other fields. Share your teachings with an uneducated mind as myself, oh illuminated one,

same stuff about no actual laws being passed, just provisions stuck into everything else. maybe one day the budget will be inside a post-office naming bill.

away from this entertaining fight, Barbara Lee would actually be a very good choice, which is probably why she wasn't chosen.

Until such time as the Chamber enacts new electoral laws on a non-confessional basis, the distribution of seats shall be according to the following principles:

  1. Equal representation between Christians blacks and Muslims latinos.
  2. Proportional representation among the confessional groups within each of the two religious communities.
  3. Proportional representation among geographic regions.
